There's another set of references in the Alexandria Dungeon and its related to the three times you pretty much run through the same sections. The part leading up to the first boss is how Alexandria looked when you first get to explore the town as Vivi at the start of FF9, the second section leading to the second boss is how Alexandria looked during Bahamut's attack as a result of Kuja, and the final section leading to the final boss is Alexandria's reconstruction after Bahamut's attack.

this was probably just a really cheeky nod, but during the scene after otis sacrifices himself and you are in the backrooms trying to comfort gulool ja, it rings some parallels to the same zidane scene on terra when he learned his origins and tried to distance himself from his friends. In 14, the scene has similarities with gulool ja believing he will only keep losing people he can call family and will always be alone until Wuk lamat assures him "You're not alone" the same name of the same song that plays for zidane when his friends reached out to him (and man i rewatched that gulool ja scene playing that song from 9 and i cried all over again)

There is another reference to I want to be your Canary. In another side quest. You learn about the plot of the play where the Lady Cornelia falls in love with Marcus. I took as Garnet falling in love with Zidane. From playing Dawntrail. I wonder if Zidane and Garnet relationship is parallel to the play. It might be a coincidence, but anything is possible.

Even though, she had a crush on Zidane. She want them to spill it out. Also, Steiner caught on to it. Besides, I took it as Zidane as Marcus role and Garnet as Lady Cornelia of their own reproduction of the play. I would say this. I took it is how Zidane and Garnet 1st meet and fall in love within their relationship than the play itself.

Krile is a reference to, well, herself in FFV, however her parallel in FFIX is Eiko Carol. Raised by her grandfather and befriends Mog, it makes sense for her to take on the Pictomancer role. Even Krile's outfit has some slight resemblance to Eiko's outfit. Also, if you watch the invasion cutscene again, you'll find a soldier taking out a vacuum-like device to extract souls. The souls are orange-ish and the other is blue like the twin moons of Alexandria.

One of the references you missed is the axe beak enemy. It's one of the enemies you first encounter when arriving in Heritage Found. It's identical to the axe beaks that you can find outside of Lindblum and around Burmecia/Cleyra on the Mist continent.

Vamo Alla Flamenco only plays during the duel between Zidane and Blank and also elsewhere in IX like during Chocobo Hot and Cold which makes it feel like that track isn't as strongly associated with the play itself.

As I play Dawntrail more, I feel it is another love letter just like what Final Fantasy 9 was. I know each Final Fantasy games as references to other Final Fantasy games including each expansion in Final Fantasy game. Within this expansion, I felt they incorporated a lot of the plot references into the game, as well as, movies and other games Square Enix produced. In addition, they combined to create a well rounded story arc. I still consider Shadowbringers as my favorite for Final Fantasy 14. To me, the plot reminded of retelling the story Final Fantasy 9. This expansion take it to the next level in retelling the story.

Solution 9 reminds me more of “Esthar”, a super Technologically Advanced Civilization that basically out preforms others by leaps and bounds and has Robotic Foot-Soldiers! So Yeah, I can see the parallels between 8 and 9 in Dawntrails expansion! As there is some clear inspiration and interesting takes on each. The Old Almost Western feeling town along train tracks that run into a Dead Valley towards this Hidden Society! I echos FF8’s plot to a crazy degree! I definitely love the Vibes, that certainly cannot be understated.

So, right before you call out Otis's symbol on his shield, as you're looking over Alexandria in the Dungeon. The Castle is VERY similar to Alexandria castle in FFIX. I know you're already calling it out here, but in particular, that architecture is just very good. There's also a blink and you miss it reference to Zidane in living memory. During one of the quests in the first quadrant you do, someone says "some skinny monkey thing just stole" and I forget what it was. But I was legit wondering if Zidane himself was gonna pop out at that point, since we got Rusty. Alas, it didn't But I remember seeing that line of dialogue, and reaching otu to a friend before I continued on.

So you mention that the androids attacking Tuli reminded you of the Black Mages, but I also think they are a reference to a other particular group in FF9. All of the androids are female and have rose color screens and neon lights. Do you think they are the Rose knights that originated under Beatrix's lead? The black mages are the only reference that I am thinking is sorely missing from Dawntrail's main story. I hope we see more of them mentioned in the post patches.

Mechanical soldiers are both Black Mage and Alexandrian Soldier in reference. They have female statures which is a nod to the majority of Alexandrian force being females. The lieutenants of mechanical soldiers are males from what i can see. Might be a nod to the Knights of Pluto. They are better at their jobs this time.

i do hope that future expasions are about other worlds that were hit by a elemental flood and are like ff8 ff7 and even ff10. It would be so fun

I have a feeling Arcadion might lead to a more direct Kuja stand-in, especially since the last two raids have also managed to adapt a legacy boss into Savage. We have animal souls that grant power, but cause short life spans. If we get one that maybe is monkey-like, I could see it happening. (And how cool would it be if we got Dark Messenger playing using the crowd to provide stamps and claps?)

I will say, a golden opportunity was missed during the solo duty in Solution 9. Mainly when Otis is defending Sphene from harm they could've played Something To Protect instead of the Dawntrail battle theme. Would be been so much cooler imo

I can't remember exactly where it was, but Iifa was mentioned at some point, Vamo alla Flamenco was used for various scenes during the Dancer questline previously so maybe that's why they didn't use it this time. Finally I felt like the last boss Queen Eternal shared 'some' similarities to Necron with both having robotic limbs/wings, 4 arms, and rings (in different places).

They did use it for the dancer questline, but they also randomly used it in this expansion as the introduction to the volcano region in Living Memory, too. Just struck me as a weird placement when they could've easily done it in the dueling scene. Somebody else mentioned Queen Eternal maybe looking like Necron, but aside from the big things jutting out of their backs, I didn't quite see the resemblance. I am willing to be wrong about that, though, if people think it's a reference!

I checked the list of orchestrion rolls from this expansion, and there's unfortunately only one available at the moment-- the remixed Court Jesters theme from the level 100 dungeon. If they add a way to get the others they use during the story, this is a great idea!

The gargant grass at 3:45 looks similar to the Valley Campeador in Tender Valley (the enemy that casts 100,000 Needles), though the colour of the flower is different. I might be reaching here though. I can't believe you showed the FFIX Axe Beak at 4:08 but didn't mention it. There are Axe Beaks elsewhere in FFXIV, but those are versions of the Ziz instead. The ones in Heritage Found use the FFIX design for the enemy. The Katobleps (Catoblepas) use the FFV design however, but at least they're nearby? I'm thinking that BLU could possibly learn Limit Glove from a newly added version of either enemy (or both!) in this area next expansion, but this is mere speculation. Sphene's prime directive is nearly a direct copy of Garland's. Sphene is basically what if Princess Garnet, but Garland? I suppose Krile is also in a similar position to Zidane in terms of her backstory and relationship with Sphene's shard. I've seen people say the Queen Eternal could be referencing Necron. I don't really see it - I think the Endsinger is much closer in both her design and goals, but I guess that's a thing.

I'm looking at a Tender Valley clear now and you know what: I think it's the same shape, intended or not. I did not even think of the axe beak, wow! I did actually do a comparison with Necron since they're both final bosses but I think aside from having the two giant things jutting out of their backs, it might be too much of a stretch.

Was kinda looking forward to a raid boss with FF9 bosses kinda like the eden primes. Deathguise or the silver dragon boss would of been a cool nostalgic fight.

This could be a stretch, but the character of Krille has a reference to Final Fantasy 9 of being a orphan. Both Garnet and Zidane are orphans. Zidane being an orphan from the planet Terra. While, Garnet was an orphan from Madain Sari. Krille has similarities to both of them. We find out that Krille’s linage is from another world like Zidane We find out Krille’s purpose in life just like Zidane and Garnet. In addition, we fine out Krille’s name is Maya by her parents, just like Garnet’s named is Sara by her’s . Also, both parents (Garnet and Krille) were protecting them from harm.

You didn’t mention how Sphene’s outfit is similar to Dagger’s (the bodice of Sphene’s dress has the same design and coloring of Dagger’s jumpsuit) but Sphene’s has Zidane’s collar You also didn’t mention the Axebeaks or Trick Bats (both are in Living Memory, I believe) The Oelivert reference was my favorite too, mostly because of how unexpected it was. I was expecting references to more obvious FFIX references and not something as obscure, so I was really happy to see it. I do agree that Otis is a Steiner reference but I don’t think he’s a big on, given that they have such hugely different personalities Also IIRC the symbol on Otis’s shield IS Alexandria’s crest from the original IX, it appears in the barrels the party hides in when boarding the Cargo Ship before Black Waltz 2 attacks

Yes somebody pointed out that I actually even show the axe beaks in the solution 9 section, but I missed them actually out in the wild! I'm still living off the Oeilvert reference, it made me very happy to see.
