That time travel loop is even *worse* than described. Garland supposedly *created* the fiends in the past which sent him there in the first place. So it's not just a stable time loop where the origins were lost to reiterative stabilization...it truly has no logical origin.

It could've been explained better that's for sure. You could change it slightly and say that Garland survived his encounter with the 4 warriors in the present, but later found ancient technology left over by that civilization in the sky that allowed him to time travel back in time, there he conquered the world and created the 4 fiends. However, it is also possible that doing just that damaged the time stream to where the world would end at the time he traveled back, so he created an infinite time loop to avoid that event. When the 4 warriors of light defeat him in the past, the crystals purify the timeline and restore the natural order. This is why the 4 heroes of light were forgotten and disappeared never to be heard from again. Or at least that's how I would've explained it.

He's not even from World A (the setting of FFI), he's from World B (the setting of Dissidia which is a mirror version of World A but with a bunch of timespace nonsense that puts bits and pieces of other worlds into it) but the ending of the first game directly implies he starts the adventure of FFI after the events of Dissidia (I'm pretty sure he's not supposed to remember what happened but because he didn't already exist in World A, he might be a special case in that regard). And then there's Onion Knight who is also a Dissidia original representing all four orphans from the original FFIII before the remake retconned them into actual characters because it wasn't out yet. Uh....

Yeah, the entire point of Thief was to Ninja. And that still wasn't necessarily enough to make him worth a character slot, compared to the unholy beatdown machine named Monk (or Black Belt). Who actually gets the LEAST upgrade out of being upgraded (one stat even slows in growth!), and is the only class to NEVER get spells, but still ends up dominating.

Fun fact: The Warrior of Light from this game do have official names. Warrior: Zest Thief: Sauber Monk: Fritz White Mage: Floe Black Mage: Daewoo Red Mage: Puffy This is based on the manga. Also, at 2:55, the king didn't exile Garland. He confessed to Princess Sarah and turned him down, and Garland kidnaps her and flees. Not criticizing, but this is the story of the game.

The ninja still sucked, actually. Yes, he was able to equip a much wider range of weapons and armor, but he still didn't hit as hard as the knight, and certainly nowhere near the damage of the black belt/master. About the only thing that he had over the other two physical fighters was that he could cast low to mid-range black magic. This sounds cool, but in practice most of the spells were obsolete by that point in the game. About the only two spells that still had utility were haste and temper. Unfortunately, temper was bugged in the original version and didn't do anything. The common tactic of stacking temper on the knight with the ninja and red/black wizard was impossible in the NES version as a result. Basically the only useful spell the ninja had was haste, which the red and black wizards could cast anyway. In short, you were FAR better off just having a knight and master in the party. The knight being the ultimate tank who could dish out respectable damage, and the master who basically broke the game with his ridiculous damage output (I was able to one-shot Chaos in the NES version).

@zach w Knight Master White & Black Wiz is the "best" party. Having the Black Belt does very little to help (a red Mage is better), but I've beaten the game with 3 different parties. Traditional, Blk Belt over Master, & then Master, Red, Black, White Wizards. Which was by far the most challenging.

@@mr.battle20 it depends on the version. the NES one? yeah, warrior/knight was OP as balls, 3 of him and a white mage (or 2 and w/b mage) was perfect. In later installments, the low level black magic still included temper (atk boost) and haste (also atk boost because reasons) which could let him and your knight demolish enemies, sure if you had a black mage he could already do that much earlier, but this was a decent way to save space if you wanted more physical classes and didnt want a black mage.

Red Mage becomes the most worthless character late game. The spells you'd actually want for a mage can't be learned by a red mage, plus I think the swords start to pass you by too.

Prophein X Depends on the version you are playing. In the NES version the Red Mage is tied for the best class (along with the Warrior). Warrior, Warrior, Red Mage, & Red Mage is usually considered the optimal team (there are some variations, but that’s generally it). In the PS1 (and WSC) remakes I’d say it’s less good, but still one of the better classes. There I would personally still use the aforementioned team but swap out one red mage for a white mage (if playing on the setting where you have more spell slots, if not, then two red mages are better). In the GBA and PSP remakes, ya, the red mage is not great.

@@chefjoeyc Nah. Final Fantasy VII and X/X-2 are in the same universe though. Shinra originated from Spira (he was the al Bhed kid on the Gullwings airship in X-2), and he was also the one who tried to extract Mako from the Farplane after the events of the game (with the financial backing of Rin, the al Bhed entrepreneur present in both games). Though Shinra himself failed, his descendants figured out how to do so about 1000 years later due to his initial experiments, and they formed the Shin-Ra Corporation which eventually led the way in space travel, and humans from Spira ultimately were the ones who colonized Gaia (inhabited at that time by the Cetra, or Ancients). Basically Final Fantasy VII takes place a few thousand years after the events of X and X-2 (and on another planet). So in a way, the al Bhed were ultimately responsible for the creation of Sephiroth, if you want to trace it back that far. Maybe Wakka was right about them all along ... (just kidding!)

And when they were gifted a phoenix down with this games success they went on to develop many different, rich, self contained stories each holding appeal for different people but all with a certain charm ... until they got to double digits and the charm and great stories started to seep away. :-(

That is an inaccurate rumor that has been spread around. It is a fun story but that is all it is, a story. Final Fantasy was chosen primarily because it abbreviated to FF. Which sounds good in Japanese. Fighting Fantasy was also considered. There is also a story that is was to be Hironobu Sakaguchi's last effort. But it didn't save the company, because a company on the verge of failing doesn't take a risk like that. It did however right the ship so to speak and set the course for the company as their flagship franchise. They weren't failing as the rumor suggests, just floundering.

I always find myself coming back and rewatching these videos almost everyday. They are just incredibly funny to me, especially when when so many of the jokes are totally relatable to the games. Same goes for the SH and RE parodies that you guys make. It’s always nice to have this playing in the background while I play video games, clean the house, etc cause it always gives me a good laugh. I first discovered this channel when I was 13 back in 2013 and I’m so happy this channel has expanded and became much more popular on YT then it was back in. You guys have come such a long way! ❤ Keep up the good work!

Everything was 100% correct. I'm surprised there wasn't a joke about only being able to cast magic a very limited number of times (NES version where you had ability to cast 1 spell of three choices and then it used up that power level. That was always my biggest complaint)

And if they were talking about the NES version, which they alluded to with the tent thing, they sure undersold Garland being ridiculously easy. I mean, he was, but you actually had to grind to lvl 5ish to make him easy, because yay 80s video game things.

That mechanic did suck in retrospect but that's because Final Fantasy was *originally* supposed to be a Dungeons and Dragons game (hence why there are so many enemies/names/etc taken straight from D&D campaigns), but they decided against it, but the magic system stayed (they merely renamed the spells, etc). And at the time, 2nd Edition D&D used that same exact system of spell levels and spells-per-level.

@@blackchase6732 FF's dark plot representation but there are many Disney films that do not fit Disney's "for kids" brand reputation, Long Live The King among many other scenes. The Disney influences is mainly that no one dies properly (as seen in 3, DDD and 1) and no one swearing like any person would under the circumstances. Most people I know would probably make South Park look K rated by comparison in terms of swear usage.

I'm surprised they didn't do a segment on the Mystic Key fetch quest chain. Thanks to watching lots of Final Fantasy Randomizer races, I realized that, before GTA was a twinkle in someone's eye, the Light Warriors of Final Fantasy were carrying out their own elaborate video game drug deal culminating in terrorism. If you don't know what I mean, when you get the CROWN, you have to go take it to the Northwest Castle. You then find out the kindly old man is really Astos the Dark Elf, who wanted the crown... I guess to complete his pimp look, I guess (I never got it either). Anyhow, he RUBs one out on one your guys, so you kick his ass for being a dirty ol' elf (Good as reason as any). You then swipe from Astos his CRYSTAL, which the Matoya needs. A logical fallacy would be this is a crystal ball or a crystal eye, and she claims she's blind without it, but after thinking about it if that was so you could have just gotten one of your brooms to fetch you another in Provoka, I don't see what is so special about this crys... Oh, it's meth. Now that Matoya has her meth, she gives you, and I shit you not, the "most powerful HERB" with which to wake the Elf prince. You sail back to Elfland, whip out your awesome Chocobo bong, and blow dat smoke in the prince's face. He gives you a key that unlocks any door, so now you embark on a campaign of breaking and entering, trespassing, and grand larceny, swiping the treasuries of both Elfland and Corneria, where you find... some TNT. Finally, in what I have to say is my favorite part of this chain, you take the TNT to a dwarf sitting all by himself in the Dwarf Cave, and you know what he does with it? He suicide bombs an isthmus, in one way good for you because now you can sail out of the inner sea, but no one ever considers the ecological ramifications of this either - all of the invasive sea life mingling, the waters of possibly different salinity and pH levels now flowing together, not to mention the flora and fauna that was possibly sitting on the isthmus when the dwarf went boom-boom seem to be of no consequence to our heroes. Anything to save the world, apparently. :3
