You're correct, the Red Wizard can indeed cast LIFE, so I misspoke when describing the White Mage as the *only* way a party member can be revived outside of town. I apologize for the error. I'll pin your comment to help get this correction noticed. Thank you for pointing that out!

Technically you were both right. Red _mage_ doesn't get life at all, but after the job upgrade, the red wizard does. Thing is, if you made it that far without a white mage, you're not gonna need the life spell because your survivability will have reached the point that you're probably not gonna use it, and the situations where you might are gonna be so desperate you may as well hit reset.

This game was the best original NES game. So well written, the music is iconic, and the plot is very well done as well. The fact that the characters grow up is just incredible. So many great memories!

Giving the characters names and a bit of background of your friends is such a nice personal touch by you! Your gameplay/commentating is really calming to watch and it fit really well with this classic. Makes me wanna play Chrono Trigger now haha.

Hey man. I'm really enjoying your walk through. I'm somewhere on 7 or 8 and playing through on a website emulator with it just for fun. Only have a crappy laptop right now so making use of killing time lol. I did have an ineffective to Astos when he tried to use Rub on me. I'll find that video and comment on it. Need a medic on the front lines after that one. 22:42 Also, noting here that the advice the game gives about holding [RESET] when powering off to retain save data, is not one hundred percent necessary, and if you're playing with actual NES hardware and it is also the top-loader, DON'T DO IT. Those are wired differently, and are more likely to corrupt save data when the 'recommended' power off method applied. It happened to someone I knew. It did not end well. There's a lot of games that use a 'skill point' system. D&D, Final Fantasy, Pokémon, Sorceria (a dice game that requires a very specifically made deck of *_Tarot_* cards that I've never gotten into)...

I should of mentioned that it would be better to avoid playing certain games in that particular model of the NES altogether (they all have issues that are related to the hardware and wiring), but most people that play the NES these days are likely well-aware or have people that can let them know. The top-loader NES tends to be finicky with SRAM carts. Some games are incompatible, and don't try any Galoob add-ons; you'll never get those working and may just fry both the top-loader and the add-on.

As soon as you went thief i was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOO My go to party was always Fighter/X/WM/BM and nobody can ever change my mind about how balanced this party is. You get access to all the spells and equipment the game has to offer, and even though there is a lot of people that say “you don’t need X spells” while true, every once in a while you will WISH you had that spell handy. If soft or life/lif2 could be used in battle i bet you more people would prefer to use the wm/bm

I only played a certain amount of final fantasy games but in my top 5 favorite games, is FF3 which is actually FF6... Now a while back I bought the Nes special edition... Their original final fantasy isn't it and I didn't think I was going to like it and when I started playing I got really annoyed and just hated it.. I tried two more times after that and I hated it and I couldn't understand why a lot of people like this game.... So I decided to watch a little bit of a walk through of the game... And watching this video I can now understand why I hated it so much.... First of all I didn't know that there was a town right off the bat next to the castle I really thought that it was just part of the castle... So I just talked to the king and went on to fight... Another reason why I hated it was because I didn't have weapons are armory... I didn't know that you start off with money and like I said I didn't know there was a village... So they came came much better when I find out you can buy weapons and magic but there was nothing I hated it is the everytime I try to attack someone usually says missed or ineffective... So the battles would usually take awhile.. but now I know why is that I usually attack One enemy if there's more than one..... I had no idea that will keep attacking the same spot even the enemy is not there..... And I'm that type of player that I love to grind like Ralph the back any RPGs that makes you fight in order to get stronger I love that... But the pills were so long and right now in this part-time a level three but now I find out that you have to attack an enemy's separately I just started doing that and now the battles are much much so thank you very much for helping me out... If it wasn't for you I probably would have never played final fantasy the original again..

The default party is Fighter, Thief, Black Belt, Red Mage.

Fighter, BB, White Mage and Black Mage is my go to party configuration. It's a tougher early game but pretty balanced and formidable once your get to the later half of the game. I never use the Thief or the Red Mage so I'm not so sure how they would benefit the party.

This was the party I used when I beat the game the first time, like 30 years ago. After that, I used the default party and soared through the game with ease. The WM & BM are more interesting, but the Thief & RM give you an OP party.

@@chrlpolk I just love the magic users and ESPECIALLY love the black mage's crowd control spells like FIR2, ICE2 and LIT2. He just has the crappiest defense and HP. Once I became ok with each member having varying levels of experience and not leveling up at the same time, it was fine. Lol, I used to rage quit when my BM would die and just start over from my previous save point. Made my first play through take me months and months to beat as an 8 year old. lol

In hacks of this game where they fix the luck stat the thief IS really good at running from enemies. The one I’m thinking of also replaces [run] with [wait] if you’re fighting a unrunable encounter.

If you're playing on an emulator you can use save states, but the game being saved after a stay at the inn should work correctly as well

@@djmoot4428 That refers to the actual NES. On your emulator there will be save states, which will save the game exactly where it is. Alternatively, if you stay at the inn and then close the game, when you start it again selecting continue from the starting screen should start you outside the town where you stayed at the inn

I think you can revive a fallen member with the Phoenix Down potion withought the need for a mage.

This is probably true in other versions, but in this one the only way is the life spell or the priest in town.

Although the Luck Stat is bugged to an extent, it still DOES help the thief run more easily (as long as he is in the first two rows).

This is true, but the same is true of any character, especially once you hit 15 luck.

@@Jerupitus Yes, it's mostly relevant at lower levels. This can actually help you get more experience by fighting more ogres; the faster you run from wolves etc, the sooner you'll encounter more ogres.

I did mention that the safe way to go about it is to get to level 2 or 3. I just wanted to demonstrate that it can be done at level 1.
