Just in case Xeno reads this: The most badass thing I've always thought the Grey Knights have going for them was they never had a Primarch. They were founded, on secret orders from the Emperor, by his most trusted Psyker friend, Malcador the Sygillite, who specifically used the gene-seed of all the Astartes from TRAITOR legions that REFUSED to betray their brethren and fought to defend themselves and their loyal brothers. Then he used ancient forbidden Psyker techniques to AMPLIFY them even further, all so they'd be the secret anti-daemon executive arm of the Inquisition, which was founded then as the public front of the Emperor's secret war against Chaos.
@Shiftry872 ай бұрын
U dare question the will and word of the Emperor! A quote from the god Emperor himself "Behold the greatest sacrifice of our age! Malcador is Sigillite no more. Henceforth he shall always and only ever be Malcador the Hero!"
@romanpyatibratov43612 ай бұрын
not much specifically used. It's just those astartes amongst traitor legions, who kept loyal, joined it. Or rather formed it. Malcador used gene-seed of Emperor himself. So they kinda like Custodes, except Custodes being lab-made. And Grey Knights are trained from people who complete trials.

The Inquisition has a valid point, there are tons of seemingly innocent people who are unknowingly manipulated or even possessed by chaos n shit..so you might be an innocent guardsman but one day you sleepwalk and dream about picking flowers because your love asked you to in the dream... when in reality you are picking the pins off your squadmates grenades while everyone is asleep and your love is a Slaaneeshi demon in disguise invading your dreams.
@johnj.spurgin70372 ай бұрын
Yep. Likewise, exterminatus is valid because if a world is corrupted by daemons and dragged into the warp, it leaves a hole in reality that the eternally respawning forces of hell can spill through over and over. Better a world be annihilated utterly than the forces of literal hell use it as a beachhead.
@MrJH101Ай бұрын
Precisely. You can’t take risks with chaos. Another example might be if you were relaxing at a bar or nightclub and then got a sedative slipped into your drink to make you fall asleep. You wake up the next morning with a hangover and little recollection of what just happened hours ago. You go back to your daily life for the next several days/weeks/months as if nothing happened. Unbeknownst to you, you were infected by a genestealer cult and cannot be saved. The moment they implanted you while you were asleep it was too late. It’s not your choice anymore and you may not have even been contacted yet, but you’re now a sleeper agent for the genestealers. You will be activated at any moment and can be used to infect others. Whatever your job/position is, you will help your cult in trying to control every layer of power and infrastructure on your planet in order to prepare ahead for the Tyranid invasion.
@whatupguys1Ай бұрын
What you say is true, but the inquisition also has a tendency to handle these matters with utmost cruelty. In your example, they would rather execute said guardsman than try to restrain and rehabilitate him. They also resort to a lot of fear tactics and have no issues with torture. Which is why most people will think of the Inquisition as a turbo-Gestapo.
@johnj.spurgin7037Ай бұрын
@@whatupguys1 the fear tactics are SORTA necessary due to the awareness of chaos giving it more power, and the fact that most of the imperium makes medieval peasants look intellectual. That, combined with chaos corruption literally poisoning and defiling the soul (possibly irrevocably, can't remember) there isn't a point to treating the tainted with any respect. They are metaphysical plague rats. Do you treat an active plague-spreader with respect? Don't get me wrong I totally agree with you, but I'm trying to put myself in their shoes.

It has been confirmed in the Ciaphas Cain books (can't remember which one), that, while at the Schola Progenium training to be a Commissar, he was basically forced to play a 40k version of Basketball with the Sisters of Battle and other Commisars, to train tactics. The Sister would treat the game as a free hand to hand combat training excercise and would beat the crap out of anyone who touched the ball, regardless if it was enemy or ally, so most games ended in a draw, with both teams losing more than half of their team due to what he describes as "life-threatening injuries" and forcing them to bring the wounded to infirmary, like it was an actual war

The funny part about Sisters is how they almost tricked into being mere servants by a single dude. His name was Vandire. He wore an aretefact that deflects bullets, said he was blessed by the Emperor, and proved that nothing can touch him by demonstrating it in front of the Sisters. He didn't take any damage from the shot, and the Sister immediately believe him. Under his rule this group of Sisters went against the Imperium. It was only until 1 Custodian took 1 of them inside the throne room that she learned the truth and exposed him. However, the mad lad, while having guns pointed at him, said "I'm too busy to die". Technically there are 7 Assassin Temples. The first 4 have models for the tabletop The next 2 are used in RPGs, because their assassination styles don't translate well to the main game The 7th was an insane idea to create the perfect assassin, which immediately went wrong and was branded heresy. The only assassin ever made tried to overthrow the Imperium and had to be put down by the Inquisition, Assassinorum and Imperial Fists.
@spearsage2 ай бұрын
7? You must mean 8. Culexus, Callidus, Eversor, and Vindicare (which are playable on WH40k tabletop), then Adamus, Vanus, Venenum, and Maerorus (which aren't) Funnily enough, all 7 (except the defunct Maerorus) are playable in horus heresy, which begs the question on why they can't be made playable in the main wh40k...
@johnj.spurgin70372 ай бұрын
Didn't the missing 3 get models during the HH game?
@spearsage2 ай бұрын
@@johnj.spurgin7037 yeah they do. Except Maerorum. Adamus, Vanus, and Venenum are playable in HH. If translated to 10th edition, Adamus would be melee precision assassin, kinda like Solitaire if you ask me but slightly less squishy and slower on the move. They also have alternate melee profile that, while can instantly kill a model if the wound goes through, can't receive any bonus whatsoever (so no +1 to hit/wound/ap etc) and has low ap. If you know Fate Grand Order, think of them like King Hassan. Vanus assassins can cause Devastating Wound style damage to automatas(basically mechanicum's robots) model from 12" away which then spread to nearby automata model too. Though this can't translate well to 10th edition, it can be easily be changed to affect vehicles or walker instead while still keeping the 'hacking to cause short circuit' fluff. They can also prevent units from being deployed within 18" around them, while also having infiltrate themselves. The Venenum assassin causes mortal wound every turn to any model they managed to score a wound on (they wound on 3+ but has 1 ap) until the model dies. Their stats can't be lowered. They can also force opponent to reroll successful charge roll against them (because they spread poison around them). They're basically Fate Grand Order's Hassan of Serenity.
@johnj.spurgin70372 ай бұрын
@@spearsage yep. Got their battlefield roles in one, and that's... GENERALLY the idea of what I went with when I did my homebrew for them. All while being a regular, unaugmented human with a lasgun. A lot of 40k enjoyers like to focus on the large scale destruction and death that occurs in your average lore event. However, I think it leaves a lot of storytelling opportunity for those moments where people overcome that overwhelming adversity. For a similar reason, I really appreciate the Salamanders legion. It's just a neat story point to have those moments of warmth and kindness amidst all the dark, horrifying, terrible things that occur in the grim darkness of the far future. also, CADIA BROKE BEFORE THE GUARD DID

Just started getting into Warhammer lore. I want to get some figures and paint them, but yeah, I'm worried about screwing that part up. If it's not too much trouble to clean them up, I think getting better at painting will be part of the fun.

The exact 2 reasons I never got into the tabletop. Found a cool stand alone TAU sniper drone operator mini, checked the price.... remembered that I suck at painting: "well I guess I'll stick to video games then" :'D It's nuts because while not being interested in the hobby itself, some of those would just make great figures to expose~

16:17 it might be outdated lore by now, but one of the reasons that the imperial guard gets a lot more and a lot bigger guns (i.e. tanks, artillery) than the space marines is in part to keep the marines in check. especially with the smaller successor chapters of marines, should one of them turn traitor, the imperial guard has a decent chance to take them down or at least incur heavy losses. 29:41 from how it was explained to me, bricky got it slightly wrong: the mechanicus believes in the machine spirit permeating all things. the emperor of man, for his great understanding of machines, literally having performed miracles in front of them, is considered the personification of the machine spirit, called the omissiah. so they do pray to the emperor, just by a different name. ...that said, they also have a free pass, because the emperor himself signed the peace treaty with mars (i.e. the mechanicus) that lets them do basically what they want. also a bit incomplete on the ironstriders (not dune striders) too: afaik, each one has a true perpetual motion engine. the one guy who knew how to build said engine, didnt share the knowledge, because knowledge is literally power in the mechanicus. he died and now no one knows how to replicate the engines, so they just leave it running. literally. 54:43 also a bit wrong. as i saw someone explain: eversors have extremely amplified metabolisms. their bodies work at several hundred times the speed of a regular humans. thats the reason they are cryo-frozen and get thawed as they are dropped onto the battlefield. they know friend from foe, but if friend is in his way and would cost him time, friend dies too. they can be re-used of they fulfil their objective and make it back to their cryo pod in time. i think they also have a dead man switch, where they blow up if they die, either from combat or if their time runs out. 1:00:49 Saltpyre is just a very zealous man of the Imperial (Sigmarite after some guy called Sigmar) Faith in warhammer fantasy. all characters are basically from different factions in vermintide, even if three of them are imperial humans (not to be confused with the many other human factions in that universe, like Bretons or Norsca). there are a lot of overlaps/similarities between 40k and Fantasy, but things cant be taken 1 to 1.

There is a KZbin channel called more lore about what each space Marine legion was about and a bit more history about them the video is relatively short so it'd be a quick watch
