Thank you Stephen! I'm not entire sure why the thirds sound less dissonant than usual. Maybe the fast spectral rolloff of the FM synths means there's less overtone beating and thus less discordance in general. But perhaps it's also partly because the second synth has no even harmonics. If the 17edo major third gets its dissonance from being a bad approximation of both 14/11 and 9/7, then the dissonance from being off from 14/11 will be absent when the lower instrument has no 14th harmonic to beat with the 11th harmonic of the higher synth. (But there will still be some dissonance from clash of the respective 9th and 7th harmonics.) This is just a guess though, I'm really not sure.
