I feel like skippable cutscenes should be in more RPG's in general. It helps with the replay value, especially if the games have NG+.

***** I agree. What i also like is the idea is being able to skip the cutscene, but only after you have seen it once. Won't miss any of the story or dialogue, still has replay value. I think The World Ends With You did this, not sure about other games. Tales of Xillia did it too, i think, though i am not too sure if you can't just skip scenes in general in that game.

FFX is designed in a way where the game's assets are meant to load during cutscenes, which is why you can't skip them. It would have been a hassle for them to re-structure the game to change that for the HD remaster, so they decided not to do it. but the unskippable scenes is definitely what keeps me from enjoying the game, it just becomes super tedious to sit through.

This is the internet, opinions for some reason are always heard louder than the rest of the given context. I enjoyed FFXIII and no longer see reason to have to try "defending" it. The people that don't like it feel so strongly about their disliking for it that no amount of reason breaks through. It's hopeless, pointless, and down right pitiful.. Just because one doesn't share an opinion, doesn't mean he has the right to be a dick about it.

Bravely Default/Second and Earthbound are two games which perfected the whole "random encounter" system. Bravely allowed you to adjust the random encounter rate (from 0% to 200%), while Earthbound had an overpower mechanic. Simply put, if you encountered a monster and it stood no chance of winning, you weren't even teleported to the battle screen. You walked around the world map and the XP and money/items were just automatically added to your totals. Made backtracking through early maps much faster..

@cameraredeye31159 жыл бұрын
+DemonAshuraX Dude I _love_ the battle system on 12 because you can do so much with it compared to other FF games. Like, if you know a boss is about to go ham on your party with its big attack, just reduce the party to one character and have him tank the hit for everyone else (before anyone gets targeted); meanwhile, the others coming in after him can bench him and heal him up while counterattacking. Or if you want to create an immortal bait character, Reverse + Decoy on that character and have him do nothing but attack. Or if you know you can block/absorb an enemy's super AoE with equipments in your inventory, just load up the equip screen mid-battle and swap equipments on the fly (much like activating a trap card or two in response to an opposing monster's attack, if you're into Yu-Gi-Oh!). This works especially well against Ultima and Zodiark and also helps against Chaos's Aeroja and Yiazmat's Cyclone. Or if you want to interrupt a character's move (even while it's being used), swap equipments on the fly and the action is negated instantly. This is basically the "counter trap" method (think, Yu-Gi-Oh! references). And the list goes on and on. I can list about 100 more possibilities with the FF12 battle system, but that would take too much time xD

I have full LPS of those game to proove it. Now, there was nothing complicated about the FF5 job system. I started to include it in the list, but I found these more annoying. About the FFX cut scenes..this is a game that some of us like to play over many times. And after we've seen the story hundreds of times, we don't need to see it anymore. Especially when we're doing a Low level game challenge and losing to a boss over and over again..forcing us to watch the same 10 minute cut scene again.

+Darkkefka ff1 and 3 are a bit meh, but i recomend the ff2, just for the history, really just for that still i do not belive it was a problem, i played ff12 several times on ps2 (it was my first ff, strange but yeah...) and still didnt had problems with cutscene, i agree that its frustating when u are in a boss fight and after dying u just want to jump right back in action, but still not so much as losing a game because the leader died, or having random encounters every 5 seconds with sometimes monster that cant even deal more than 1 dmg to you... btw since we have diferent opinions, not going far with it, just stating once more that for me, ff5 job system would make a good place in the list since it a game mechanic and a really bad one that i belive many agree, because on the first time playing it every1 will have a bad time in doing the right jobs, even more if they do not find the mime job And sorry if i sounded hateful in saying that u didnt play games before the ff7, was not my intention and only realize after i sent the comment ... sry x)

+Pedro Joaquim "Not Clayton! Ee-oo-oo-oo-ah! Not Clayton!" x50 makes me slightly inclined to disagree here. If we're talking Pokemon though, random encounters with a level 16 Zubat every six steps in every cave ever can die in a grease fire. Switching it up once in a while with a level 17 Geodude doesn't help. Would it have killed the developers to decrease the chances of a random encounter based on how overlevelled you are for an area? My level 59 Blaziken is not amused, level 14 Spinda asshat, gtfo of my way, and tell your over 9000 brothers and sisters in this one 6x6 patch of grass to do the same.

Flaming Gilgamesh I do agree with you, but as a FFVII fan, please don't group me in with them. FFXIII doesn't deserve the negative hype it gets and out of the entire series of FF games, it is the easiest to play and finish. That is not a neg on the game, it is a good game for beginners to start with and then branch into the others. I've played most, not the MMOs, of the games in the series, and still don't see how FFXIII gets hated, sure FFVII is my all time favorite, but I don't hate FFXIII, FFIII for the DS on the other hand is a different story. Some of the reasons it is hated I find funny: its too Linear, duh its in RPG; The summons are bad, at least they went with the original summons and not the the same mechanic of FFXII. Every FF game has something that makes it less than perfect, FFVII is far from perfect and I'm a fan of it. FFXIII is far from perfect just like the others in the long line of titles.

FF8 is decent, the main problems were the Draw-Junction system, which makes magic fubar, and the fact it came after FF7, so it didn't live up to the hype. I myself only felt "daaaamn, I'm deeply involved again!" when I played FFX: started with no hype at all, expecting the game to suck, and was pleasantly surprised - especially by the sphere grid.

It lived up to the hype. Perhaps you weren’t around then. It was exactly like 7 or better in virtually every way. Materia-Junction are mirrored entirely, characters are only separated by limit breaks. Many aspects were simply capitalized on and enhanced or abandoned for being worse. We’re talking about LEGO polygon figures to gorgeous, full-fledged FMVs in 2 years, and characters that actually resemble humans instead of figurines.

The levelling system in FF2. Holy shit it is BAD. You have to do practically everything in battle to level up your characters in a balanced way. If you want to equip better weapons, you gotta attack. If you want more HP to survive endgame bosses, you gotta take damage and block enemy attacks. If you want to level up magic, you gotta use spells. And so on. And yes, the #1 pick on this list is 100% relatable. Both the Steam and the PS4 HD ports of FFX forgot to add the option to skip cutscenes so if you die to say, Seymour Flux or Yunalesca, you gotta sit through 10 minutes of cutscenes EVEN ON THE HD REMASTER! Why the FUCK did Square Enix forget that feature for FFX and yet include it in KH1 Final Mix?! That is beyond stupid, especially since you can just watch the cutscenes in the in-game library and/or here on YT anyway. I do NOT want to keep sitting through every goddamn cutscene in FFX every time I want to play through the game. I don't care how good the story is.

The reason many hate the hallways in 13 and not 10 is because if there's something you missed in 10, you could always go back and tie up any loose ends. In 13, what's done is done.

felman87 I, too, am one of the seven! Honestly, i thought it wasn't exactly hard. Cie'th Rex took a couple of tries, sure, but he wasn't that hard. Just needed to figure out when to switch into which role, which was a breeze after a try or two. The most annoying trophy, by far, is earning 10.000 coins in the casino and getting the Lucky Coin Fragment. I love XIII-2 as much as i love XIII and Lightning Returns, but it i was asked to play them over again (i played the first two games two tames, and LR a total of four times times now), i would not Platinum a single one, simple because of how annoying some trophies are. Getting to max level and finding all the items/equipments in XIII was a pain... and so was the LR secret boss. But still, i love every single game in this trilogy. Each one has its own kind of feeling and atmosphere to it and they did a great job on these games, despite all the hate these games are getting they will always be some of my favorites.

Fun video! Agreed on most points. I'd also like to bring up the tedious leveling system from FF2. Neat on paper, a chore in execution. It got better in some of the remakes, where stat level ups became quicker and more predictable, but the very original is just a nightmare.
@Justin-ym4pm8 жыл бұрын
#1 is the level up system in FF2 for sure. It's an interesting concept but it wasn't fine tuned at all and feels either impossible to level certain things up (mp) or incredibly easy and cheap when you grind a specific way for a particular stat (swap / attacking yourself).

I would have to say my number one mehanic that pissed me off is the turn based system in FFX, only because i think it made it too easy defeat most of the bosses, as you know exactly when they are going to attack and its easy to learn when the over powered attacks are coming, just imagine if Barthandelus was in X All of us could have most probably beat him first time around. Now, I dont mind the cutscenes i always revisit games and play them from the start after like a year or two, and still playing X on PS2, the custscenes still leave me in awe because of the graphics for its time is amazing I would say your next video should be a easter eggs of FF because i have played nearly all of the series except 1, 2 ,3 ,6 and the onlines only because i have only just recently purchased online hahahaha and havent got around to purchasing them :) love all your videos man hope you keep them up

DK I'm sorry for your loss. These top 10's never get old, I love them. Man random encounters are irritating, just trying to get from point A to B and encounter, even when you literally just got out of one and two seconds later in mid run, bam another one. I also agree about Final Fantasy X (or any game really) not letting you skip cutscenes. If your stuck on a boss it's a bitch to have to watch a long ass cutscene over and over (Ugh I remember back in the day when I had to go through that with Lady Yunalesca and Braska's Final Aeon. Along with possessed Riku in Kingdom Hearts gah! I wanted to shoot myself cause I just wanted to get back in there and fight) It's nice someone in the comments gave an explanation for why they didn't let you skip the cutscenes in FFX but it's still a pain. I don't play video games as much as I used to (usually just watch game walkthroughs) so I didn't play FF 13 myself (and I can imagine that leader is dead=instant game over being annoying as hell) but I agree that game gets too much hate. I don't get it, now the unnecessary sequels I kind of agree there (didn't care for them much and thought the stories were weak and unneeded) but the first game is really good. When it comes to FF 7 and beyond, my least favorite FF is 12. The game just bored me to death compared to other FF's. My favorite is FF X.
@PlacidDirge8 жыл бұрын
I haven't run into this one in a while, but spells that would be useful if enemies worth casting them on weren't immune. "Useful useless spells" were magic or items intended to cause useful debuffs on enemies, however the programers made many of the monster types you would want to use the spells on immune to just about all of them. Then the ones that lacked any immunity could just as easily be foiled much faster with average attacks, so their would be no point in wasting time or mana.

Acually now they made 3 ports with the steam version on PC and guess what YOU STILL CAN'T SKIT THE CUTSCENES, what the fuck Square. This is the sole reason why it took me months to beat Yunalesca because eventually i got bored of it and didn''t feel like watching the same cutscene for the tenth time, even if it is a really nice cutscene. What's funny is that there is a mod for the Steam version called "Untitled" Project X and one of the things they have planned for it is skippable cutscenes, you see Square? We want this!!
@lightorchestrator7 жыл бұрын
I agree. The longest cut scenes in that game always come before the hardest bosses (shout out also to Seymour Flux and Braska's Final Aeon). It really is a double wammy and they should fix that the next time they port the game.
@JOC92719 жыл бұрын
hey DK most of these i agree with but i think one that should've been included was the way you level up in Crisis Core! it was too freaking random! i did not like the way you level up in crisis core

Darkkefka ahhh i thought so its cool for your countdown id probably put it as number 4. but thats just me. where would you put it if you had included it??
@pichugirl69 жыл бұрын
Darkkefka I don't think the level up in Crisis Core is a terrible mechanic. Sure it's random, but again it's all based on the random luck chance from the DMV. Heck it's sometimes hilarious if you can get 2 level ups during one battle. Plus if your having trouble "leveling up" there's always the tons of missions you can mess around in and just get tons of point to help raise the chance for the DMV to happen. you also have Aeirth's little invincible thing to help make most fights easy to handle.
@guilaumecordoba-millan94219 жыл бұрын
***** Actually the LVUP in Crisis Core isn't random there is actually EXP in this game and every ennemi give you some EXP, the thing is it's competely invisible you can't see how many EXP you have and the system is you gain EXP that raise you're chances of LVUP and eventually at a certain point you're 100% sure that you will LVUP so it's not completely random it's just completely hide for obscure reason but if you go check the bestiary on gamefaqs you will see the exact amount of EXP each monster can provide. Also since we start to talk of that let's talk about invisible stat such as the chance for random enconter from FFVI to X they're actually completly random there is an invisible count down that go down each step you make and wher it goes to 0 you get a fight, another invisible stat is Penance the thing is Penance in his second form has actually an invisible Overdrive Gauge this bars fills every he take damage and every time he attacks (the Arms doesn't count for both of the case) and I think when he has been attack or has attack 19 times (I'm not sure) he becomes able to use Judgement Day (if the arms are still here) this is how you deal with Judgement Day on Penance Extreme challenge. Darkkefka I would also add both the Money System, the Drop Rate and because of that the Equipment LVUP system of Final Fantasy XIII this is absolutly incredible how hard it is to get Gils on XIII (and the fact that you don't win Gils in Battle doesn't help at all) and not only that but the things you have to buy to raise your equipment is so fucking expensive that you can never buy them (especially the thing that cost 2 Millions Gils that is required for getting the Ultimate Weapons) and then you have to drop them assumming you can this is fucking crazy I have beat like 50-100 times Long Gui and I have obtain only 2 or 3 times the Rare Item (sorry I'm French so I don't know the English Name) this is bullshit I like XIII but this, Vanille and the Leader die = Game Over system are the only things that piss me off in this game.
@pichugirl69 жыл бұрын
Guilaume CORDOBA-MILLAN Really Now?? For a funny thought I always like to believe that there was sorta an EXP for Crisis Core. So again I really don't think Crisis Core has a Worst Mechanic for leveling up. (if anything thats and on and off debate for FF2 IMO, will get to that game eventually and will have a better opinion on that) For the money system in FF13, yeah..... i won't lie on that. I love FF13. but it's kinda painful between trying to get enough money to upgrade most of your weapons to trying to not die from an enemy or a Boss fight with the Mechanic of "If my leader dies, we're doom durr"
@MattrickBT7 жыл бұрын
The worst part of FFX is switching party members in and out...no only do you have to do this because you need certain characters for certain monsters, but if you a character doesn't participate in a fight in someway, they don't get any XP, so if you're grinding, you need to switch every member in and have them do something (I remember using a lot of pointless potions) just so you can get some XP for them.

FFXIII used that game over condition for a reason. I haven’t played it in a while but iirc it’s due to the necessity of having enemies with dangerous single target attacks, without which, the sentinel class would be useless. If all three characters needed to die to get a game over you could just revive whoever gets hit too hard instead of being forced into using a tank paradigm.
@cameraredeye3115 Жыл бұрын
Problem with that is, the Sacrifice mobs and Orphan can cast instant death which has a chance of giving you an immediate Game Over if it's used on your party leader. That is extremely cheap. It's a damn good thing that a Game Over doesn't necessarily send you all the way back to the save point in FF13, because if it did, it would piss off SO MANY PEOPLE it's not even funny. And from my experience, there's no way to prevent instant death in the instant it does connect on your party leader. Even Sentinels are useless in dealing with it, and the accessory that helps guard against it doesn't eliminate that chance completely even if you have 2-3 of them that are fully upgraded. FF12, by comparison, only had one way to get an instant Game Over: letting the Demon Wall reach the door while you're trying to kill it. That made way more sense than a mob going "oh, I just instakilled your party leader, git gud scrub" while you stare at a Game Over screen in rage and disgust. In fact it's actually hard AF to get a Game Over in FF12 unless you're just a total noob who doesn't know what the hell he's doing. Even the superbosses can't do that very easily (well, except the 5 Judges in the Trial Mode)...
@attaxiaffxi7033 Жыл бұрын
@@cameraredeye3115 Yeah I agree it's cheap and dumb. I might have sounded like I was defending it; but I hated everything about FFXIII's battle system even though imo changing classes in battle is potentially a really cool idea in concept. FFXII is indeed a perfect example of the exact opposite, which is a problem also I think - but at least it was fun.

Great list. I would personally just switch some placements around, but all the thngs on it I wholeheartly agree with. Random battles is a dated concept, but a concept that can work with just adding a on/off option or a rate slider. Some RPGs have done this and it works great. Also love how everyones main complaint about 13 is that it's linear with no sidetracking. Would be a legit complaint if the same people didn't have 10 as one of their favourite game, but no mention there.

Maria can cast all kind of magic, and attack once in a while. Just with that the game become easier.

Bullshit on that FF XIII rant, that shit is reversed. It's not people who hate XIII that try to convince other people to hate it, it's people that like XIII that try to convince other people to like it. The consensus is that the game was poorly made, that's why people don't need to convince others to hate the game. Why should we when that's the popular opinion? But that's exactly the reason you'll see people trying to convert others into liking the game. When a person likes something that is overwhelmingly maligned and chastised they need to hear what they like praised by others because people have a natural need to have their opinions validated. "The game is not that bad," that's someone trying to convince other people of that, but I can talk all day about things *_I_* didn't like and make it perfectly clear that I hated the world's longest hallway tour simulator.

@Dom2703859 жыл бұрын
There are only two mechanics in the FF series that I really hate. The first is the Job system in FF3. I don't mind the multiple jobs themselves (that is actually kind of cool), but I hate that after you switch your stats get lowered for a while. And since this game basically relies on you using the job system effectively it means that you have to grind when you get a new job or you want to use a job for an upcoming boss. And yes, I know that FF3 isn't the only game with this kind of problem, but it really made me hate the game after a while. The second thing I hate is the unskippable summons in several of the FF series. Look, I get it Square, you are good and making pretty animations, but I have watched this way too many times can I please get a way to skip these animations? The worst is probably FF8 since its summons take so long and you can't even just watch them, you have to press buttons to get the max power. It is annoying, it is tedious, and it wastes too much damn time.

I hate when people bitch about final fantasy 8's draw feature. Other than drawing GF'S from bosses or really strong magic in the latter part of the game, YOU DONT NEED IT! There are more than a few ways to obtain spells in this game to max out stats.
@BeliasLP9 жыл бұрын
+Aharon K you max out stats by triple triad and drawing, really early in the game. if you don't, you suck at FF8, sorry. but man, FUCK FF8, bad story dude.... (although i like the characters and gameplay)

+Aharon K But like how it's said in the video, you don't really know that the first time your playing the game, unless you've followed a guide or something. Just to show one of the best attack spells in the game: who the fuck is going to cast Ultima, when a basic attack will do more damage faster and without a cost, if I junction Ultima to it? Even then, why the fuck would I regularly use Ultima, knowing I have to draw it in order to keep the stock up? Also, not every area will provide access to draw to Ultima. I know Ultima is "Teh Pwn", but these observations apply throught the game to the best spells avaliable for junction [like elemental-dagas] at given times [usually when they become avaliable]: they either excel at junction and it is not wise to cast them, or they are no longer the best junction option - and by that time physical attack surpasses them. It is not fun, the need to hoard the best spells all the time in order to be optimal and to avoid the boredom of draw.

13 has a worse issue than just the leader dying causes you to lose. Coupled with that problem is the AI is programmed to heal the character with the lowest HP, and if that's not your leader and you get hit with a big attack the AI will decide to ignore your leader so you can watch as they die. Not a big issue late game, but during most of it, it is a huge issue....also the Life spell is worthless for an AI healer....can't use it on your leader, and of course it's a useless spell for the healer themselves if they die. Only good for 1 damn character....ugh I could go on....
@panbouk8 жыл бұрын
You know what other things the AI healer will not do? Not rez the fallen party member unless your leader is at about 80%-90% HP. I got stuck in a loop where I was Sentinel role, mediguarding, at 60% health and Light instead of rezing she kept on healing. Back to 60% when taking dmg and so on. Hmm what else. Oh yeah have the AI synergist use Faith on Fang. Or bravery to himself (Hope) basicly use useless abilities and waste time. Sometimes leave vital buffs for last, Protect for example. So basicaly you had no control over the other party members. Limited leveling up. Up the end of each chapter you where able to develop further. But at the same time you where at max on all 3 roles. You finaly got to Pulse and by that time you thought ok I might max out. No you need to fight the boss at the end of the chapter to get the cool abilities. Oh you finished the game? You passed the "tutorial", now you can max your character. We have an upgrade system but you don't actualy need to use it untill after chapter 11. Story is a subjective matter so I cannot say anything. If you liked it cool. If not, cool again. But they have done many wrong things with the world building and character development (especialy with villains - antagonists). Datalog should be there to keep notes for you for things you learned in the game. Not give you all the backstory for characters and landscapes you visited without any contex ingame. One example. The white hair dude. First time you see him in a cutscene ariving and giving orders. And then datalog updated. Here is his name, his origin etc. Do they expect me to care for him? . FFXIII is a pretty (visualy), mediocre game (not only in comparisson with FF games but with RPGs-JRPGS in general)

what? lol...for me one of the downfalls is X and X-2. XIII never will be one of my favorites, but it wasn't as bad as many want it to be. If you accepted the fact it tried something different and acted accordingly (and yes i also hate the linearity...so i do in FFX) i can see where the hates come from, but many arguments supporting the hate can also be applied to FFX (except the battlesystem) XIII-2 blew me away back then, i really couldn't believe that after XIII its sequel could be so much better, that whole pokemonaspect and battlesystem was really great...the story was just confused horseshit for the sake of being confused horseshit...but i freaking loved the gameplay. Lightning returns, was intriguing at the beginning...but fell flat pretty fast for me and is still to this day the only FF i have never finished. You should just accept the fact, opinions can differ and objectively it wasn't a bad game, it was just not a real FF, like it used to be...and again, the same counts for FFX imo, because it was the first game, with major changes to a for decades loved formula...and Tidus sucks ass hahaha.

I liked it. The battle system takes a little getting used to but it is very engaging. If you want there are DLC outfits which make the game much easier but I was able to beat it without them. Worst case scenario if you're underleveled for the final boss you have the option to New Game+ to get stronger. I think I was able to beat the main quests by Day 7 (might have been 8) so you should have time to do sidequests. Don't forget Chronostasis.
@zetaro058 жыл бұрын
i liked it too, it has an interesting world, lots of neat pathways and NPCs the brings the world to life, sadly the story is still tied to the previous 2 so none of it makes sense. one tip is to start at the EASIEST difficulty, no use punishing yourself by playing normal or hard on first playthrough. next tip is to use CHRONOSTASIS, like, everytime. this gives you the time to explore the interesting world and have a good time.

final fantasy 13 doesn't allow any freedom of movement(only one path through most of the game, with no side branches), there are no decent side quests until near the end, you cannot grind levels when you want to until the end of the game, the battle system is basically hitting auto battle all the time and hoping your characters do the right thing (because choosing the commands you need takes too long due to an extremely poorly sorted command list) when your main character dies it is game over despite the fact that there would be other pcs who can revive you if that wasn't the case, you cannot control the other characters and the limit of the games strategy is switching classes(which would be a good mechanic if it were not the only one you could use on the fly and if it allowed you to switch the classes of individual members instead of only using presets), the majority of the time your character is just healing the other characters because the healing AI sucks. The boss battles are boring extended slogs which fail to be interesting due to the battle system limiting your options. And to top it all of the game feels like an extended tutorial. At least in the other Final Fantasy games I had enough time to select my command or it just straight up paused time, there were side quests, other regions of the map you could explore, the actual ability to grind(ff13s encounters do not even re-spawn) and I didn't want to hit myself with a shovel for how long the bosses took when they were completely uninteresting.

Doombybbr hit it on the head for me. The game took some of Final Fantasy's most notable factors out and replaced it with some of the most uninteresting, and ideally frustrating games I've ever played. The game had too many flaws for me to enjoy it. I felt too limited and irritated with combat. You're welcome to enjoy FF13, for what it is. But in honesty, it is perhaps the worst installment around.
@nickp80418 жыл бұрын
Most of the people who founded FF and had a vision of what they wanted it to be all jumped ship from square (even their composer left) and that explains the decline in quality from 10 onward. Some people may not agree with decline, okay that's fine. But it's hard to disagree that the series hasn't at least morphed into something completely different since then. Nomura boasts himself up all the time as having played key roles since he's the director now and feels he's up to it but most of the time he was a character designer (just one of them) and helped write certain plot points (under supervision and revision from peers with other writers) and so he believes he shares the same vision as the people who had it originally. Or maybe he wants it to be something different on purpose, I don't know. My overall reaching point though is that 13 is just a symptom of the change in direction of the company. They're not squaresoft anymore with watanabe, they're square enix with nomura. It's gotten to the point where I've become so jaded I'm not really even willing to give 15 a chance. It's really only a ff game in name. I also have extreme doubt that the FF7 remake is going to be faithful at all. Mostly because it's just going to be nomura circle jerking his own version of it and saying "I was on the team bro". The character designs from the trailer were where I expressed my first doubts and seeing the battle system and then the episodic release was what kind of sealed it for me. They'll likely change the script and plot to fit more the new games and rewrite the character personalities to be more in line as well. I'll at least give it a chance, but if it turns the battle system into kingdom hearts-7 and rewrites the plot I'm out for good. Because if a FF7 remake won't do it for me then nothing they make onward will either. But that's just a long digression from someone who's seen one of their favorite genres and franchises transform over time into something completely unrecognizable. I don't really think it's reasonable to lash out at people who said 13 was garbage. It was an inevitability. If you took any other series, lets just say street fighter because of how well known it is, and started turning it from a 2d fighter "because 2d fighters are dead" and turned it into any other genre like a 3d fighter, or drastically altered it's formula as was the case with final fantasy, then you are going to piss a lot of people off regardless of if the game was good by itself or not. and 13 by itself was not so the problem was twofold and thus more hate. My final point being that they put Final Fantasy on it when they were clearly just capitalizing on the name because their intentions were to basically reboot the series which pissed off a lot of people. Which might sound weird since the plots aren't related but the mechanical elements from 1-10 were similar with unique quirks IE leveling to 99 while managing materia, jobs, spheres, ect. After that, the only thing the series seems to have retained is it's emphasis on grandiose storytelling and that's it. They basically want them to be action games with a high focus on cinematics more akin to western style games.

I gotta disagree with the FFVIII system-hate. People tend that tend to hate on it tend to not be good with it. Drawing, while time-consuming, is a great system. Especially with the junction system. It was actually great. Ugh... It's unfortunate that you want FFVII changed up more than it should be... If it was like Chrono Cross, I could see the enemies being on-screen... But Square Enix is going to ruin FFVII-remake. No, FF13 sucks. Just, no. It is bad. Also... You're trying to FORCE YOUR BELIEFS of not forcing beliefs on others to other people. You straight up just told people what to say/think. Devil's advocate here. You are guilty of the very same thing you're condemning others for. And FFXIII is bad.
@RealDafuh4 жыл бұрын
what? The junction system broke FFVIII's difficulty and need for fighting...mby the intention was a good one, but the outcome was an unbalanced mess, where you can beat the whole game with lvl5 and get overpowered without even entering the dungeon to fight Ifrit... the complete game was broken with this system. Don't get me wrong, i love FFVIII but the game is a broken mess.
@cameraredeye3115 Жыл бұрын
1) Drawing magic makes magic almost completely useless in the game, especially since you can overlevel very fast AND abuse Limit Breaks anyway. The only spells you need to use in FF8 are the ones DK described... 2) I've seen the FF7 Remake and it's actually not bad. It reminds me of the Active Dimension Battle system from FF12 (which is my favorite). Also, fuck random encounters. They're annoying as shit. 3) Your playing devil's advocate with the whole FF13 mess just proved DK's point. Congratulations.

XIII-2 is just an atrocity all-around and there is no defending it outside of mentioning that its aesthetics are astoundingly good. XIII has a few likable characters (namely Sazh and Vanille), and is also generally excellent on the visual and audio fronts, but the plot is generic Bad-Guy-Wants-to-Summon-God fare made infuriatingly inept by its refusal to outright explain terminology and backstory to the audience *EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE TWO POTENTIAL AUDIENCE SUBSTITUTE CHARACTERS READILY AVAILABLE* when this is a story that just *begs* to have some dumb guy who doesn't know shit for the characters to explain shit to. XIII needed a Rydia. It needed a Firion. It needed a Tifa, a Selphie, a Garnet, a Vivi, a Yuna, a Vaan--someone inexperienced and naive who needs shit explained to them. Actually, wait, scratch that--like I already said, *THEY DID HAVE ONE. THEY HAD TWO, IN FACT.* But did they actually use these characters to give us some desperately-needed exposition? Nope! Go hunting around in the Datalogs, peasant! What, did you think this narrative would include some narrative? Pshaw!

I don't think 13 is a bad game it IS a bad game, if you look at the way its played it boils down to a cell phone game that is tap the screen to win, the story is terrible as well and part 2 and 3 just stole from other games but did a crappy job at it. the ff12 got a bad rap for its licence system and I will admit it is confusing but it was no worse than 10s sphere system. 13 takes the worst of both of those and mashes them together. I know it was trying to make the system simple for casuals to sit and play the game but it was too simple, in the first game if you have lighting, snow and hope you win just mash one button. two was just awful and 3 was a poor try at trying to be like western RPGs. they are all bad games. saying any of them is good is like saying you like sword art online.
