Over the years, the Final Fantasy Type / Agito franchise has seen a ton of change. Whether pertaining to Final Fantasy Agito XIII, Final Fantasy Type-0, Final Fantasy Agito or Final Fantasy Awakening (Type-0 Online), there has been a load of confusion thanks to platform changes and name changes, which have made everything rather disjointed.
Hopefully this video will serve as a comprehensive history of the Final Fantasy Type / Agito franchise so far!

I really enjoyed Type-0. Hope we get Type-1/Next. I played the fan translation on PSP and loved it and I loved the HD version. Fantastic story, characters, world and soundtrack.. Man that soundtrack! Was so hyped after the Type-1/Next trailer and I was thinking that was definitely not in the PSP version, so I'm hoping it isn't dead. Was really gutted over Agito+. Great video guys, wish people would talk about Type-0 more.

Honestly, Type-0 is one of my favorite Final Fantasy titles, even despite its flaws (namely its absurdly unbalanced cast)

Yup. There's a good 3 or 4 characters that are completely useless but you need to level them all up before the final mission or else youre fucked.

I would like to see the Type series become somewhat like Persona in that you build relationships with different people, only not in a completely linear way. To be clear, I dont want a clone of Persona, I just want something like the relationship building mechanic it attempts.

I just started playing the HD version on PS4 this week and you share my thoughts exactly. It feels like it's trying to be like Persona but failing miserably in that aspect. They dock 2 hours off your free time for any character interactions which, at the most, take 40 seconds of real time. Everything else about the game, so far, is great though.

Thanks for the explanation. I started it but found myself really annoyed with the functionality of buttons. Never did figure out how to pause the game without skipping scenes.

I enjoyed Type 0 and was a little sad that SE abandoned the sub-series. I actually think XVI feels more like a new "Type" game than a mainline entry.

They should just make the Type series be Final Fantasy's Team Action RPG game for the Final Fantasy Franchise while going back to the mainline series with more "grounded" gameplay.

Honestly I would pay big bucks even for just a remaster of Type-0 that did more than just graphics. I would love to see an expanded story that gave each character just a bit more depth, a lil extra world building through cutscenes instead of the rubicus, revamped combat and the obvious polish of a modern game. Ez pz sell for me.

Unfortunately I think it's more down to Tabata's want to continue. Being that Type-0 wasn't a complete success and Tabata's current focus on AAA Console games, continuing the Type franchise just doesn't seem like the right course of action. I think he's putting his efforts solely into AAA titles from now on after the success of Final Fantasy XV. -Lauren

Love the gameplay, but the story has so much potential and they didn't go anywhere with it... Hopefully after they finish remaking older titles, they work on adding more to Type-0

Item usage is the fucking worst in this game. You need to EQUIP the Phoenix Down, press down on D-pad to use it, and hope you don't take any damage while trying to cast it.

Alright, I know this is gonna make you say, "What?", but the entire reason this game was originally fucked up was because of Versus, and exactly visa-versa, too. Trust me. I don't know any other way to say it. EDIT: Without getting slammed by something (NDA, blah blah) all I can say is the original AGITO "savior, messiah" storyline of the original vision was too connected to the ORIGINAL main concept of Versus. Considering that out of the two "spin-offs", Type-0 kept most of that intact(at least more than XV), it's to be expected, since it corroberated the original claim of the XIII franchise. THe whole thing became such a mess though, it's a shame.

How unfair is it that Tabata got to go back and release the game he initially wanted to with Agito XIII, but Nomura doesn't get the same opportunity with Versus XIII?

He didn't direct it AND it was only released in Asia. Secondly Nomura did not want to make Versus XIII, that's why he did nothing with it in like 5 years.

Get rid of the sortie missions, cut the playable characters in half and give it a true HD remaster (the PS4 HD cut scenes look worse than PS2 cut scenes) and you'd have the best FF since 12.
