Still is not only the best JRPG final boss fight for me, but also the best final boss theme in all gaming period. Each note feels meticulously planned three times over so that the movements not only fit each singular part of the Monument to Nonexistence and Kefka, but also reference the entire game, from the Figaro theme in the cord progression of Purgatory, to Omen and Catastrophe both building to the opening of the song, to Kefka’s theme in Heaven, to so many others. This song isn’t just a final boss theme or a regular piece of music, but an artistic masterpiece that no composer has came close to topping. Closest I can think of is Revo’s work creating Serpent Devouring the Horizon for Bravely Default, which when all levels are compared I see as an equal for this game, tied together for best JRPG period.

(If you decide to play it, download a Game Boy Advance emulator and "FFVI Advance [Restored]" from this site: www.fantasyanime.com/finalfantasy/ff6/ff6downloads.htm... It's pretty much the best version of the game you can find.)
@OsnosisBones9 жыл бұрын
GrahamChapman i don't know...the gba version of the game has some jarringly bad misinterpretation of text right off the bat at the beginning that creates plot holes and inconsistency of plot due to how incorrectly it was worded. Unless of course this 'restored' emulator is a version of the gba ffvi without the jarring mistranslation moments replaced with the times in the other versions where it was correctly worded. Each version has a mistranslation error at some point, but gba version is actually regarded as the worst since it's like the only one where the mistranslation effects the plot in any way.
@GrahamChapman9 жыл бұрын
Nakumare I _really_ can't say I agree with you and I even kinda wonder where you've gotten your info from. I mean, first of all there's the fact that the PS1/GBA/PlayStation Store translation is miles and bounds closer to the original script than Woolsey's translation used for the SNES was (even if he had some real gems in his translation, too). I dunno what the iOS translation is like, so I cannot say anything about its translation but I hope it's even better than the PS1/GBA/PSS one... Secondly there's the fact that the PS1, GBA and PSS versions have fixed several bugs that are present in the SNES version, which is enough in my book to make it better from a gameplay perspective... Thirdly we have the bonus content and that speaks for itself. Btw, what plot hole induced mistranslation in the GBA version is it you're talking about?

The fucking best villain in any RPG. He's the only one who won. He did what he wanted. He usurped the emperor, defeated his political enemies, crushed all rebellious factions, ripped both the human and Esper worlds apart and subjugated both, remade them in his own twisted visage, rebuilt the empire under his own dominion, and finally became a God. It took literally a heavily outfitted crew of the most powerful denizens of the human and Esper worlds to finally take him down, and that was still QUITE a challenge. I mean, Kefka single-handedly double-crossed the Emperor and took his throne, murdered GEN Leo and took command of his troops, enslaved the most powerful beings in existence and turned them into weaponized crystals (magicite), then dominated the rest of the world's nations one-by-one until he had all he needed to complete his diabolical plan... And what did it take to beat him? Literally the best of all that the world had to offer to fight back against him with. Seriously, ALL of the world, 'cuz there was a Moogle, a Sasquatch, a feral human with the power of the world's strongest beasts, a girl with the ability to replicate the most powerful innate magics of the world's inhabitants, kings and thieves, soldiers and mercenaries, artists and gamblers alongside magicians and engineers, a simple brawler who had command of a rare powerful martial arts style fighting next to a cloaked mysterious individual who could mimic any attack it saw. All of these unique, powerful beings were backed by a veritable army of Espers and geared up with the most powerful relics and modern weaponry that could be produced. They even had a fuckin' airship and a castle that could travel within underground tunnels. All of that, and you STILL have to fight tooth-and-nail to get to the son of a bitch, and then...man, the battle...hoof! ... Oh right, unless you vanish/doom him...problem solved.

What makes Kefka the ultimate villian is the fact that he actually managed to destroy the world and became a God. In fact, he didn't only kill thousands of people and destroyed the Empire's capital, he achieved something that all humans have dreamed with: The divinity. Thats why I believe he's better than any other white-haired samurai villian.
@CrimsonHybrid9 жыл бұрын
The both of them were awesome. Kefka succeeded twice, and became a god. Emperor Mateus was so great and evil, Heaven didn't want him and Hell _was afraid he'd take over_. And he did. (And in the remakes, he took over Heaven too.)
@Yokai_Yuri9 жыл бұрын
Crimson Hybrid What makes Emperor Mateus awesome and dangerous is his intelligence, he is like the japanese version of Doctor Doom, powerful,intelligent and ruler. This is proven in dissidia where he is bossing everyone around and almost succeeds in taking both bands down by himself. That is not to say Kefka is less than him, Kefka has his own charm and uniqueness no other villian has and that is that kefka started at the bottom as some joker working for the empire and since then he became a god. Unlike Mateus who was strong from the beginning to the end much like sephiroth, ultimecia, Golbez etc...Kefka was not, and that is what makes him awesome besides his unique personality of insanity.

In my opinion what DOES the villain is not the fact that he ultimately succeed in his/her evil plans. To me the strongest tract of a villain is the ability to incarnate and represent the protagonist' anti-values. With that said, I think that a good befitting one is the final Kuja, because his wish is to become the anti-life itself. However Kefka is better written than Kuja and so in my opinion our "evil clown" is the best villain in the saga. And the poor Sephiroth in under Kuja as well, for me. :D

Kefka: is a madman that cares for no one. His character is defined as pure evil and all consuming. He serves no one... he owes the world nothing and Gains Everything. He obtains power by stepping on the shoulders of his fallen foes (Insane,clever, and selfish)... Its because of his selfishness and strong desire for magic which has been obliterated until now that he crushes everything in sight until there's nothing left. The world splits into a shadow of its former self due to his actions. Obtaining Godlike status and sitting on his throne atop his tower he waits for his judgment from you. From his insanity you can sense the true unrelenting destructive power (a true endgame boss) Sephiroth is a F’ing emo pussy in comparison, a little bi*#h that wants his f'ing momy. Kefka's mindset is that if he destroys you then there really is no other collective power in the world that can stop him; however, if he stops you first then hes perfectly happy ruling over his creation: his Dead World with him as God. Put him in the world of the Black Cauldron. Have him replace Creeper as the Horned King's right hand lackey. Have him be a mid-boss who runs away after you've defeated him. Have the fight against the Horned King be a recursive homage to the Hades summon from FFVII (which was a homage to the Horned King and the Black Cauldron in the first place). Have Kefka shove the Horned King into the cauldron after the boss fight. Have Kefka drain the Black Cauldron of all its power in order to trancend into his God of Destruction form. Because the world of the Black Cauldron was not nearly bad enough when it was merely ruled over by a f*cking lich.

Boot. He didn't do most of his plans on his own. He had some help. (manipulating everyone to his will like the psycho he is.) let's see the heros screwed up got separated for 2 years so that helped him. The emperor just did so much shit to help kefka even though he thought he was the big bad. That's about it. Kefka had help. Unwilling help who tried to bite him. But help anyway.
@NickKzig5 жыл бұрын
Kefka absolutely did have a reason for what he did... pleasure and the ultimate destruction of everything. Also, Sephiroth is meant to be a perverse analogue to Jesus (particularly as the son of god, as opposed to god himself), with "Jenova" being a perverse analogue to "Jehovah", the name of God in some sects. His name is even taken from Kabbalah, which is a Jewish form of biblical mysticism.

howdareyou66 Meh, Terumi was personally responsible for getting the world stuck in a 100 year long time loop that repeated some 700 times over and pushed humanity to the brink of extinction during just the first 10 years of every single loop, he mind raped people into genocidal rages or catonia for funsies and profit and out-manouvered a god/supercomputer with three omniscient minds... And I honestly don't see what point you're trying to make by pointing out that Krelian was a so-called "Karma Houdini"...
@GrahamChapman9 жыл бұрын
howdareyou66 So? Being in a superior position when the story is done with is, when it all comes down to it, pretty inconsequential in regards to whether a villain is great/evil/successful or not... Sure, it can be a nice little golden star in the villain's merit list, but it's not, in any at all way, a determining factor when it comes to whether s/he is a more or less great, evil or even necessarily successful villain... Or are you saying that if I write "The ageless Dr. Kittenkicker McPuppypunter, who's greatest joys in the world was kicking kittens and punting puppies until they died, kicked kittens and punted puppies to death every day all day long without anyone ever noticing it and lived out the rest of his life completely unpunished for all the countless kittens he kicked and puppies he punted", I've created a villain superior to Kefka, Sephiroth and Terumi by nothing but the virtue that my villain got off scott free for his atrocities? Is that how it works? My villain gets away and that means he's automatically better than all the villains who got their comeuppance simply because he ended up in a superior position compared to them? Or is there something I'm missing? In all honesty though, whether they get their just desserts or not is pretty much a non-factor for villains. I mean, take Kefka: He was a nihilist to whom anything but death and destruction was meaningless... A villain such as that... you can't really beat... _Final Fantasy VI_ is pretty much the epitome of Pyrrhic victories in video games. Kefka aquires absolute power and becomes the god of magic, he destroys the world and rules over its shattered and ruined remains for a full year. Sure, in the end you kill Kefka, but even that is a hollow victory since you doing so proves his point: Everything, even gods, die and everything, even magic, fades away. So yeah, you don't even get to have a clear-cut ideological victory against Kefka. All you win is a ruined world and a (hopefully) longer and happier life than the one he lived... By contrast, Krelian suffered a complete and utter moral defeat, which, considering that he was no monster like Kefka or Terumi but "just" a well-intentioned extremist, is a pretty big loss. Sure, he gets to "walk with god" (because no one else could love him at this point) but now his story is over while Fei and Elly, who have finally achieved happiness together after 10,000 years of searching for each other, have lifetimes ahead of them as the Badasses who defeated God with The Power of Love.

Not gonna lie, I find Kefka's raw insanity and lust for power more interesting than the long-haired pretty-boy tortured soul image of Sephiroth (though I still love Sephiroth as a villain). I'm sure Sephy could kick Kefka's butt in a straight fight, but it's worth mentioning that Kefka DID cause a full-on apocalypse and rise to become a straight-up god of madness of destruction. Plus his boss theme is better than Sephy's.

each stage of dancing mad has it's meaning, 1st stage mean the lust for power, 2nd insanity multiple personality, 3rd achievment to become a god of despair and the last part represent all of kefka's hatred following with a sad part finally seeing through his own hatred and facing his coming death he fade away in sorrow.saying nothing cause there is nothing left to say.
