Manga does, to an extent, or a movie like the Good, the Bad and the Ugly is an example of a movie that tells so much of its story through facial expressions. Traditionally, FF tells its stories through written narrative, with its visuals serving as more of a guide to the imagination. I've always dreamed of seeing these characters in fully-fledged 3D and I'm over the moon playing the remake. But it has also made me realise that what I love about the characters doesn't extend much further than Nomura's art designs, which are iconic and representative, but not the core of why I love this game. The characters are ironically no more than sprites, or puppets as Sephiroth put it, who give context to the story and the message, which is communicated most intimately in written form. While some describe the remake as "FFVII HBO series", the original is akin to reading a fantasy novel.

Omg - u just said what I thought about the remake as well in comparison to the original. I watched most of the game online, as I can't afford to play it, and it hooks me im with the new emotional cut scenes, but after it ended, I felt like something was missing. That something is the magic of the original. Though I appreciate a few new things the remake has done, it is missing the serious tone and music of the original; the new music is too modern/rockish that sometimes I feel like I'm listening to mess, and the original music added depth to what was going on. As for what I meant by serious undertone, the remake feels a bit goofy at times, like it's not taking itself serious enough, which also lessens the magic the original had. Besides that, I think Square missed the mark with how much fans wanted the original to stay in the remake, just with updated graphics. And yes - I said so myself that the original's magic was due to partly actually NOT being able to see the characters and picture it in your mind with the beauty of the words like a book. A HUGE no-no for me about the remake is that it reveals WAY too much too soon. We only saw Sephiroth once Cloud told the story in Kalm, and Zack is supposed to come WAY later. Stop revealing everything so soon!!!!!! That scene of Zack dragging Cloud to Midgar was only a SURPRISE scene in the original!! I appreciate the fun and emotional scenes, but it needs to be balanced with the above magic of the original.
