I love the detail of how “cloud”and Sephiroth look at each other during the synergy ability. Sephiroth looks confident in his abilities while “cloud” is clearly less sure of himself and is looking back with awe at Sephiroth. Everyone loves how we got to actually see and feel Sephiroth’s power through gameplay in the original PS1 version and I love that the devs are keeping that same sentiment here but raising the bar even further.

I would have considered this a fail on the devs part if we didn't get to play as Sephiroth in this combat gameplay at least once. I'm glad they thought of doing this

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! NO WAY! You can actually play as Sephiroth?! Eh, I still think Square Enix is going to keep him restricted to ONLY the flashback sequences though, like so many people have been telling me, but I find it interesting that you can use him open-world, too, EXCEPT in flashbacks which sucks, but that doesn't bother me. I'm just happy he's in the game regardless as a fully playable character. But if I can get to play as him throughout the whole game, Square Enix can take my money RIGHT NOW! Oh wait...they ALREADY HAVE, lol, for when 2024 rolls around and this beautiful game comes out! PS: I'm actually crying right now! And it's SOOOOOOO COOL that the CPUs help you out and the characters interact with each other in-game! Really NICE features!

But hey, if I can play as Sephiroth a lot more in the flashback sequences, that puts a HUGE smile on my face! Sephiroth is my most favorite character in the FFVII series, mostly Remake/Rebirth. I like him more than the rest of the cast!

Help out a brother who isn't suuuuper versed in the original. I know that Cloud has basically taken up Zack's identity after the Mako poisoning. But why is he slipping much more into Zack's personality here? Is there something about Mt Nibel that triggers that or what's up?

This is basocally cloud narrating his point of view "flashback" to barret and co. And he remembers himself as "zack" hence his personality in his memories are 1:1 zack's

In “crisis core” it’s clear he really really looks up to Zach. When Zach dies he tells Cloud he’s his living legacy. Between that, the Mako poisoning/years of experimentation and the him being left with nothing, his brain is manufacturing a story where he embodies that “living legacy”. I’d say that’s what’s happening here. That and he was a teenager at that time so more enthusiasm.

What was crucial from a story-telling perspective for this section was for the player to witness how powerful Sephiroth is compared to you. This touch seems to be eliminated...

Clearly he’s using these moments as a teaching lesson for “Cloud”. Not to mention that the game itself is using this as a teaching moment for the players. I swear people always find something to complain about lol had they made Sephiroth OP and him kill everything in 1-2 hits. Then people would’ve complained about that too.
