There's just something about this version, it's so gentle and tender. Perfect way to describe the only moment they got to spend together in real solitude where they were both just able to express themselves properly. Shame it was so short lived but it's what makes the emotional impact hit harder I guess.

Around the 0:30 mark you can see Aerith is so happy that Cloud returns her feelings, only to remember that she has no more time. Forget violins, they may as well be playing heartstrings there.

I guess its because for most of us , the song is associated to grief, losing someone we care about, our brain feels pain, melancholy hearing it. And for this specific version idk how they made it even more painful after 2:29 She litteraly tells us threw word and music to accept it, to let her go. Cant wait when cloud will get his shit together in part 3, to cry even more 😢

Thank you Bear in mind that "thank you", when said in an intimate setting such as this, can be interpreted as "I love you" in Japanese. But the sentence she says before that is even more clear IMO.

This was her actual goodbye/farewell to Cloud and us as the players. The devs knew they couldn’t just recreate the OG death scene and expect it to have the same impact. They needed to do something new. It was a bold and risky departure for sure, but I loved it. It always bugged me how Aerith’s death in the OG was accepted by Cloud despite his memory issues. Rebirth played that card extremely well in my opinion. It makes her death hit harder; it’s more depressing and even more dark, because now Sephiroth/Jenova can use the fact that Cloud thinks she’s alive to their advantage

maybe not initially because we all clinged onto to the hope of aerith surviving this time again, but i love how this scene in a way represents the developers telling us that it’s inevitable, you can not change aerith’s faith, you must accept that and move on.

well to be fair her fate is still unknown even after her "death". the ultimania didn't really give any answers and the biggest mystery they want you to question is in which form is the aerith in the ending scene appearing: if she's alive in some world, if she's in lifestream form or if she's an hallucination in the ending scene, that's why her death is so overcomplicated. people will gravitate towards whatever theory they personally like or prefer.

They actually managed to recreate the feeling of denial of the first game by giving sparks of hope in the confusion, like "she can't be dead right?" From the OG to "she might Still be alive somewhere? Her destiny isn't set??" That is genius
