As I mentioned in another comment. Details! These little details show that Cloud AND Aerith are a couple made for each other. Not everyone is able to see this and even if they do, they deny it by coming up with idiotic theories. As a psychologist, I am really full of appreciation of how wonderfully the developers recreated the body language, facial expressions of two people in love with each other. The gestures, the glances, the behavior of Cloud who is simply nervous and shy around Aerith. She, in turn, knowing his behavior, constantly breaks down this wall and allows him to open up to her. Those who think it's one sided love or simple friendship or the behavior of brother and sister have never been in love, never felt butterflies in their stomachs. This romantic tale could not be better presented. I think in 3 years there will be a happy ending for this couple.

I couldn't have said it better myself!!! Very well said... there is something very special and unique between Cloud and Aerith. But I also confess that I'm afraid for part 3... afraid that fanservice and the desire of other fans might lead Square to make certain decisions... I hope I'm wrong I just hope Square doesn't waste this fantastic relationship I've built up between Cloud and Aerith... it would be a lifelong pain for me not to see a moment of resolution between the two.

So far, SE has stayed faithful to the OG -- CxA are non-optional canon, while CxT are optional fan-service -- Tifa was always a date option in the OG, but Aerith's date has always been default / canon -- yet again in Rebirth, the #clerith date is canon due to Aerith playing Rosa in 4/6 plays -- personally, I think SE is baiting clawti's in with fan-service to then show them that they were wrong about canon / the main narrative (which is has always & forever been Cloud x Aerith since 1997) @@francisco24slb1

I can't imagine putting all the effort and little details into their meaningful, emotional, wholesome, tragic story, romance and relationship just to have people say "He doesn't like her, he said shes weird." "She annoys him. He wants to leave her." "He thinks he loves her only because he has Zack's feelings." "She wants him to become Zack." "She wants Zack not Cloud (despite how many times they've made it clear she doesn't want to be with Zack.) "She doesn't know the real him, so she can't really like him" "She's trying to tell Cloud she only kinda likes him, not really likes him" This has been one of the best developing relationships I've seen in media. From him immediately feeling comfortable with and opening up to her, despite how uncomfortable that usually makes him with others. Him not caring about the money anymore. To him slowly starting to be more honest with his emotions and behavior. And her finally opening up to him cause she usually tries to hide her fear and anger to not discourage others. And the trust they develop for each other. Just like the 'No promises to keep' song meaning. Like 🙄It's disappointing how many of the 'Fans' seem to hate the relationship between the 2 main characters. Which is basically the core of the whole story. I just can't with the 'Fans' of this game. It's just depressing.

It's not depressing anymore, it's downright disrespectful. What I mean by that is at least in OG (and AC), the story and relationships were somewhat vague and left up to interpretations. And furthermore, the terrible localizations and translations didn't help either. But the willful misrepresentation of the most obvious and mutual romance in Remake/Rebirth by the western audience and gaming media is damn aggravating (yes, it's mutual, just look at Cloud's body language and mannerisms during the final date, as if he would do any of that shit if he wasn't interested as well). Heck, the theme songs themselves in both games should be more than enough 'evidence' of mutual affection. These 'fans' care nothing of the story or core themes. They don't even give two shits about Cloud himself and they downright despise Aerith for random, ridiculous reasons. Even shipping preferences aside, how do they even admit to liking FF7 while taking a piss on its protagonists and the way their feelings are being canonically depicted? My only hope is that SE doesn't give into fan appeasement pressures and dilute the story/ending in the final game.

When is was written to be tragic and heart wrenching for the players. And while Cloud suffers for years about it, all people care about is shipping him with Tifa. I was hearing more about that kiss than Aerith's death when Rebirth came out. I don't understand being so obsessed with the games while also opening disliking the main 2 characters and their relationship. They've made it VERY obvious how Cloud feels about Aerith since Remake. And VERY obvious how Aerith feels about Cloud in Rebirth. But people still continue to play and act surprised and angry every time they show/hint them liking each other more. the “she doesn’t know the real him” argument is the funniest one to me, considering he last saw tifa 5 years ago, and she didn’t even realize it was him and thinks they last saw each other like 7 years ago. her last memories of him before seeing him again at the beginning of 7 was when he was like 14. people who are 21 are not the same people they were when they were 14. if you argue aerith doesn’t know the real cloud that simultaneously means neither does tifa. i’m not really into shipping (i do think cloud and aerith make more sense tho, plus i like their banter), but when i see people double down on that specific argument it’s hilarious to me bc it goes against cloud and tifa just as much as it goes against cloud and aerith

Another important thing is that How complicated their relationship is. Aerith loves him but, knowing her future, she will not tell him directly and will always hold back so that he does not suffer even more after her death. Cloud, on the other hand, as you know, is not a person who likes to talk about his feelings, besides, this is his first romance and a person does not always know how to behave in such a new situation. He is what he is. On the other hand, the fact that he is also in love with her, the game shows us in various ways. Often not apparent at first glance. Those who fully understand the story will understand their relationship. It is complicated, not literal, sad and cruel for the sake of the future.

Ever since the awkward visit to Zack's parents Cloud became unsure if the girl he's falling in love with feels the same about him.He's thinking about this even if you got Tifa's date. But then near the end of the game, during Aerith's GS date and the beginning of ch14, Cloud finally understood they have mutual feelings for each other and promised Aerith that they'll make more memories together next time. Just when Cloud thought he was about to start a new chapter of his life with Aerith, fate took everything away from him. Such a beautiful yet bittersweet love story but I believe Cloud can make things right in part 3 and reunite with Aerith.

We legit follow Zack in multiple scenes where he himself creates different timelines by making different decisions. Zack is alive in some form in at least one of them. Clouds mind is fragmented, no doubt, but this entire remake was set up with the objective of “defying fate” and it makes no sense to have it all just be in Cloud’s mind at this point.

I love the scene in the church when Aerith tells Cloud that she likes him. You can read so much in Cloud's tiny facial expressions and the way he's talking to her; it's insane. At first he looks relatively open and relaxed, like he had a fun date and almost forgot about her weird behavior. He even goes as far as to tell her the "next time" line. Which is kind of huge for him, since it is basically him actively asking Aerith on another date... and it's completely unprompted by Aerith, same as the photo op earlier in the chapter which was already quite a cutesy and clearly couple-y activity. He's trying so hard, but also just the way he says this is simply amazing. Sure, the first time the line is delivered he is not looking at her, apart from one really quick glance before staring straight at the flower bed again. As if he realized there's no way he can say what he wants to say while looking at her cause he's too chicken to see her reaction. And when he does speak, there is that tiny pause after him saying "well", gearing himself up to the rest of it and trying his best to sound as nonchalant as possible although he is still clearly nervous regardless. Because he's basically (lowkey) throwing out his feelings and intentions in the open and while he gained enough confidence during their date earlier to even attempt this, he probably still has that little fear of rejection that stuck with him all the way since their interaction about Zack in Gongaga. But then Aerith playfully asks for confirmation and it's like a switch has been flipped. As if he knows that she's been waiting for him to make a move and he doesn't waste any time doubling down and confirming his intentions. There are no nervous pauses, no "uh"s or awkward "yep"s or any stuttering whatsoever. Suddenly he looks at her and seems confident and content. Even his voice sounds so much happier than before. At that point he's sure she'll agree to go on that date with him and it shows. But then she starts with that confession thing, which he clearly didn't expect. And yeah, he looks a little surprised, though mostly hopeful and elated at first... and yet. The moment she starts explaining that there are different types of liking someone, Cloud vaguely looks like she kicked his puppy. His eyes are moving away from her for a bit, probably wondering if maybe he had misinterpreted her feelings after all. Still, despite his confusion he's listening to her intently. He knows that whatever this is about, it's important to her and he's willing to set his immediate feelings aside for a moment to help her chew through whatever her problem is. And that hug? Chef's kiss. I can imagine he would've closed his eyes and really enjoyed that if he didn't know that something was so clearly wrong. So he just stares ahead and can't relax, waiting for her to finally elaborate. Unfortunately all she gives him is cryptic bullshit and that "thank you" seemed to immediately translate to "goodbye" in his head... Man. Poor dude can't catch a break... Help, I'm way too invested in these two characters and I've watched this video and the Remake one at least 20 times by now...

It blows my mind that people are trying to say “she made him uncomfortable” in this scene. Lol no?? If he was uncomfortable, he wouldn’t keep asking her to talk to him, wouldn’t keep *encouraging* the date (he pointed out the photo op!), wouldn’t be disappointed over his gift not getting picked or them winning the photo. He wouldn’t say “next time.” He was enjoying himself-the only issue was that he could tell Aerith was not herself, that she wasn’t truly happy, and he wanted to fix it.

While I know in the OG timeline, ultimately, Cloud and Tifa are a couple, I suspect the reason for that is that, defying fate, has Aerith surviving, they were the couple meant to be. The one concerning Tifa and Cloud may just have been the result of trauma bonding. Two major events (the destruction of Nibelheim and the death of Aerith) that changed the course of their lives, they experienced together. They were both there when they happened. And I think it is still rather undeniable that as a teenager, Cloud had very deep feelings for Tifa, and just never felt worthy of her. Tifa was the opposite of Cloud. She was the center of attention in Nibelheim, undoubtedly the object of affection with most of her circle, if not all of them, while Cloud was quiet, reserved, and standoffish, perhaps jealous or envious of Tifa. For those of you who never played the OG, I'm not going to say anymore except that the truth does come out, assuming the 3rd installment follows the basic plot of FF7. What I think might have been better for the story, because you may have noticed the different worlds have certain differences, one of the most obvious being the Shinra Pooch mascot Stamp (he's a beagle in one, a terrier in the other), in the OG Aerith was called "Aeris". Maybe them keeping that in would have made a little more sense, too. Certain elements would have to change...

Not all couples live happily ever after. And I didn't even comment on the strength of this relationship, because it was a strained one, particularly for all the reason I stated. Cloud had the Geostigma following the events of the OG game, and stayed away from people as a result, including Tifa. What would you do if you has a disease of unknown origin and you had no idea how to cure it or how it spreads or what would eventually happen at the end of it, would you hang all over the people you care about, and maybe infect them with it, too?? I wouldn't. And Cloud has overwhelming feelings of guilt over the death of Aerith. That is a touchy issue. She obviously didn't die of natural causes; she got her belly button pierced by Sephiroth's Masamune. Cloud clearly has a confidence problem. While he was the one who killed Sephiroth in Nibelheim 5 years prior to the OG when no one else, including Zack couldn't, he is also the reason Zack had a leg iron on himself the entire trip back to Midgar. Zack could have gotten to Midgar WAY before he did if Cloud wasn't nearly comatose from Mako poisoning, and if he was with Zack when Zack died, the two of them might have been able to prevail. Was that Cloud's fault? No. But it doesn't matter to him. Advent Children fleshes that out pretty early. He felt unworthy of Tifa, even as a kid, and especially now. As much as I love Tifa, she wasn't the one Cloud would have chosen between her and Aerith. It became a thing because Aerith was swept from the board. I agree Cloud and Tifa is a relationship that is really flimsy. We don't really know if it improves, or fractures, really, because the last installment on the timeline, Dirge of Cerberus doesn't exactly have much to do with Cloud or Tifa. Tifa clearly feels like Cloud is pushing her away, and Cloud has a confidence problem. Cloud is even told by Aerith in Advent Children he needs to stop feeling guilty about that. Even Aerith is rooting for Cloud and Tifa beyond the grave.

@@mr.e1026 I tend to agree for the most part, I think a fair amount of people miss the particulars of Cloud and Tifa's childhood relationship. They're not childhood friends, they know each other from childhood, there's a difference. Cloud feeling unworthy is only half of it. Yes, she's his childhood crush, the popular pretty girl, but the other kids excluded him, and she was "too cool for him" for the most part. This isn't meant to cheapen what comes after though, they form a bond with each other later on, but it is what it is. Aerith and Cloud are star-crossed soulmates, there's no scenario where she's in the equation and Cloud chooses Tifa over her. None. But she dies. Tifa and Cloud bond over both the shared trauma of Aerith's death, and (finally) over the shared trauma of losing everything 5 years prior. This is why I find the Clerith vs Cloti shipping war so toxic and tiresome. It doesn't matter. IHad Aerith lived, they'd be together. But she didn't, so he gets closer with Tifa, and as you say, she roots for him and Tifa from beyond the grave, because of course she does, that's who she is. They'll reunite when Cloud's time comes to return to the planet, but until then he has a life to live, and she wants more than anything, for Cloud to be happy. One doesn't cheapen or negate the other.

@@PlasticLawnDaemon I suspect Tifa would have been a childhood friend of his. Nibelheim wasn't that big and there is no way Cloud NEVER talked to Tifa as a kid. The biggest reason they weren't was because of Cloud. That's it. Tifa would have been ok with him being in her circle. I'm loathe to continue commenting about Nibelheim circa 5 years earlier in order to keep from exposing a spoiler that the OG game time line explains, regarding Cloud and Tifa as kids, but one part that the game absolutely did reveal so far is, Cloud DID tell Tifa he was leaving Midgar. She did open up to him somewhat. But that said, When they were kids, there was no Aerith, yet. Cloud didn't even know Aerith through Zack at that point. What I suspect, and always have suspected, even in 1997 was, a relationship between Cloud and Tifa was doomed with Aerith in the picture. Too much had happened with Tifa and Cloud. They both experienced traumas that were too likely to poison a relationship. I mean, imagining the woman you love in theory also reminding you of the worst day of your life when your mother was killed, your village was burned to the ground by someone you looked up to, and you saw her probably dead from a slash wound sustained by that person you held in such high regard? Or being Tifa where you remind her of many of the same things, including watching her father die, being nearly killed yourself.... None of that was present with Aerith. It was a clean slate. And Tifa was a bit more hardened than Aerith. Aerith had a certain vulnerability that Tifa didn't. Aerith really didn't hate anyone except maybe Hojo (confirmed!!). Tifa was full of hate, though. And let's assume for a minute Zack actually SURVIVED the attack outside Midgar. What if the Turks found him dying. I mean they were looking for him, and Tseng did order the Turks to protect Zack and Cloud. What if Zack was found dying, was retrieved by the Turks and was taken to a medical facility to restore him to health, and he rejoined the story before Aerith is killed? Chances are, Zack would have prevailed with Aerith, not Cloud. Then what? It's kind of difficult to get close to a woman when she is as guarded as Tifa. Cloud and Tifa are a tragic love story, in that, there seems little hope of a lasting bond, due to the circumstances surrounding how the bond really formed to begin with. Could they have made a good couple?? Maybe. A power couple?? Hell no.

She hides her burdens on their last date because she sees that Cloud was so close to breaking, she gave him them what they both wanted, a date, walking in the sector 5 slums. Her home, where she feels safe under the steel sky. A place for the both of them. For me in the ending it felt like cloud was saying that after he kills sephiroth, hes still going to come and find her, and they will be together again. I don't know if I'm seeing this correctly or not, but when they are officially saying bye at the end and cloud tells her "I will stop sephiroth, trust me", and when they make their promise, it looked like yellow lily petals are blowing through the wind. I'm not sure if those are just some generic yellow flower petals though. If they are lily petals and they symbolize reunion, I feel like it really is a possibility that they will be together again in the next game. Along with the almost kissing scenes, it feels like they're building to them kissing because when they finally do it will be grand. Like how they do with story telling in movies and shows. I'm really hoping for this to be true in the next game!!

I'm replaying the story again. I reached the part in Gongaga and i noticed an important detail that makes everything make more sense in the context knowing what happens between Cloud, Tifa and Aerith for the rest of the game. I'm playing the spanish version which uses a translation based directly on the japanese one. When Cloud and Aerith talk about Zack and Cloud is VISIBLY jelaous when he asks Aerith is she still likes Zack, in this version she doesn't says "maybe" she says "yes" (but not in a strong manner), and then the "he didn't give me any reason not to". Cloud looks pissed about that answer and starts acting insecure, blasting Zack inmediately after. From this moment, this puts Cloud in a situation of insecurity about how Aerith reciprocates his feelings. Until that moment he probably thought there was really something between the both of them, but "what if not.....". It's after that moment that his insecurities about Aerith start allowing Tifa come closer to him and just not long after they have that moment after getting back from the reactor. It's like he's starting to accept some kind of "defeat" and that maybe he needs to move on. In Cosmo Canyon in their side mission about taking photos of the stars, after the selfie, he wants to ask her something personal, but he stops. He's still clearly insecure and confused about how Aerith thinks of him. Then we have the golden saucer date. And now i see better what the story is telling if you choose Aerith or Tifa there. If you have the date with Tifa it only ends solidifying Cloud mistakenly thinking he has no chances with Aerith because she really prefers Zack. He brought Aerith to the conversation and after Tifa's response he is hearbroken. So now, he is around this beautiful girl, who is his friend from his childhood, who he clearly likes too, and then he says to himself in the heat of the moment...."well, maybe this is what it needs to happen" and they kiss and then they left the wheel clearly embarrassed about it as if something was not quite right. But then you have the "dream date" with Aerith, and Cloud learns the real truth. Aerith does indeed likes him too. You can see how in their date Cloud is slowly accepting what is happening. Clouds doubts from earlier in the story are disappearing and when Aerith admits her feelings to him, you can see in Cloud's face that this makes him happy and how relieved he is to hear that. If you had the date with Aerith in golden saucer, all of this is just not that ambiguous. It only serves to make Cloud realise Aerith maybe feels the same sooner, and only getting confirmation in that "dream scene". It's more like a conventional romance story that just focuses on two characters. But with the Tifa date route, the story clearly goes to the "love triangle" drama kind of story more. It doesn't matter because in both cases Cloud ends up realizing Aerith real feelings. And that's why the love song is in the credits. It's unavoidable. The cards are already in the table. If i'm right in my impressions, i think i can visualize how the 3rd part is going to end this part of the story...

In the original game, the golden saucer date was meant to have Cloud and Aerith have an intimate moment before everything fell down. That's why Aerith had way more affinity points by default than everyone else. It was the creator's intention for players to experience it. In Rebirth they've turned the golden saucer date into pure fan service, just trying to make every "ship" happy for a moment. But even still, in my opinion is obvious that the play and the date were more suited to Aerith. Everything starts with Cloud seeing and smiling at Aerith writing the song. Then goes to bed and dreams again about her in the other timeline. He wakes up and goes to his date with the person who has more affinity to the play. A play called Loveless that has clear parallelism with Cloud and Aerith, where Rosa even uses a staff like Aerith uses in combat. Then Aerith sings the song she wrote, a song that is a love song about how she met Cloud, how she wants to hold his hand, and never let go. And after that the date at the wheel. If you have the date with Tifa, everything from the moment they get to the play until the end of the date is very weird. The moment in the song where Aerith sings about "taking her hand", with Cloud looking at Aerith, but then holding hands with Tifa is ....disrepectful to say the least. I can't understand why Square Enix did that this way. Then they go to the wheel, Cloud is as defensive as ever, cleary uncomfortable. So much that while Tifa is trying to have a good time, he brings Aerith into the conversation. It's obvious he was thinking about her. He asks Tifa if she talked with Aerith about Zack and she lies (for whatever reason). That makes Cloud think that Aerith still has feelings for Zack, showing a clear disappointing face. From there, Cloud suddenly starts acting way different, like the "Prince charming" that Tifa so much wanted since they were kids. He gaves her a weird hug, says the perfect words that Tifa loves to hear, and then yes, a beautiful kiss. The thing ends with both getting out of the wheel, Cloud visibly embarrassed about it. This date is never referenced again for the rest of the game. Tifa fans got their kiss so i guess that's the only thing that matters but in my opinion Tifa deserved a better date than this. To me, with so many things so forcibly integrated in those scenes, i can't believe how any of this can make their relationship "canon". I'm sorry to Tifa fans, but that's the way i see it. If you have the date with Aerith everything makes sense. Aerith plays as Rosa, a character that resembles her future destiny. Sings the song she wrote for Cloud, while he can't look anywhere else but at Aerith. Then they have the date at the wheel and both act like always, there's nothing weird. Cloud is shy and Aerith is jolly. They almost kiss by accident and both blush about it. Aerith explains to Cloud how he compared him to Zack at first, but that she now clearly understand they're not the same. That there's a real Cloud who she wants to be with. Cloud takes down his wall and accept an intimate moment with her holding hands, the same motif that was told during the song and that is going to be present for the rest of the game. The date ends with both getting out of the wheel smiling, Cloud specially proud about it. A clear contrast compared to the Tifa date. Both the fact that Aerith tells about Cloud finding the real him, and the aspect of holding hands are reused multiple times until the ending. But if there was any doubt the golden saucer dates were mostly irrelevant, just fan service to make everyone happy for a moment, Cloud and Aerith still have yet another non optional date before the end. A date where Aerith ends having an even more intimate moment with Cloud than in Gold Saucer telling her directly that she likes him before saying goodbye for the inevitable about to happen. In other words, the game give you choices to have that fan service date with whoever you wanted, but at the moment to tell you the story, they force you to have this moment between Cloud and Aerith, because it NEEDS to happen. From that moment, Cloud never stops thinking about her until the end of the game. Sephirot, who knows how much Aerith means to Cloud, gave his "blessing" to Cloud and told him he needed a "little push", both clear references about what is going to happen to her. Sephirot has been mocking Cloud about not being able to cry when his friends died. He didn't cry when Biggs and Jesse died, he didn't even cried when he tought he killed Tifa in Gongaga. But he cries when he sees Aerith dying at his arms, or at least that's what it looks like in that moment. Once he understands that Aerith is still there somehow his face is always smiling to her in a way that we never see him in any media related to FF VII before. Then when they defeat Sephirot, just before separating again, they hold hands exactly like they've being doing in their dates in the last hours of the game. In the final scene, when Aerith jokes while flirting with him about a reference in the park in Midgar, you can see Cloud smiling like a person in love. That stupid giggle. He then says goodbye to Aerith with a clear intention to end all of this and be reunited again. And the same love song Aerith wrote starts sounding in the background. A song that ends talking about him finding her again and be together evermore. If this is not a romantic story, the real main romantic story of Final Fantasy VII, then i guess i didn't understand anything about the story and these characters....😅

I believe that you understood everything correctly . Se are doing two things in gs : fan service and filler to elaborate on some characters . Tifa and cloud are shown as two insecure individuals who bring negative traits from each other ( at this particular moment in the story ) . Cloud is trying to forget aerith , that’s why he holds tifa’s hand . Unfortunately, our protagonist can’t look away from aerith . Her performances moved him , so he decides to grasp at the last straw . Asking tifa about zack and aerith . Tifa misinforms cloud because of her own insecurities and cloud is left heartbroken . To cope with that situation he falls back on his soldier persona and kisses tifa to overcompensate . Se shows to us that tifa and cloud’s relationships are build on miscommunication and jealousy.

Tifa always wanted to be the damsel in distress that is going to be saved by her hero since kids. That's why she made Cloud promise her to save her when she needed help. Aerith. on the contrary literally said to Cloud that she is not. Aerith from the begining understood Cloud fake persona and that's why she is always so active trying to make him break that role. It's a parallelism to what happened in Advent Children and the official novels that works a prequels of the movie. There, after the events of FF VII, the story told us how Cloud really tried to be the person that Tifa wants him to be. He tried to live with her, and form a family. But time passed and Cloud started to act distant, and it was because he couldn't forget about Aerith. That brought tension with Cloud and Tifa, the moment she learns where he has being going all this time. Cloud ends the novel and start the movie basically ignoring Tifa and living in Aerith church. Like you said, the topics about their relantioship: miscommunication and jealousy. By the end of the movie Cloud, despite learing to moving on, keeps thinking about Aerith, shown in the credits scene riding his bike in a road filled with yellow flowers and showing his desk filled with them. That's because he keeps recollecting them in his travels to be close to her. That's why everytime i hear that Tifa "is the only person that understands Cloud", his "anchor", i can't believe we are experience the same things watching the story of FF VII. In Rebith when Cloud has lost control of himself and is giving the black materia to Sephirot, is not Tifa who makes Cloud regain its senses, is Aerith. That's a real anchor, a feeling that makes him understand what's really happening. I will add this about the topic about the kiss... In a final fantasy game, you don't show the canon kiss in an optional scene that requires specific conditions to get. Yuna and Tidus was not optional, Squall and Rinoa was not optional, Clive and Jill was not optional.... So considering that they didn't show Aerith and Cloud kissing in the optional date scene, is kind of a hint of what is yet to come in the 3rd game. With the Tifa kiss, is like a good example of "be careful of what you wish for". What if the 3rd game focus entirely in Cloud and Aerith's relationship and that's why they gave Tifa fans the kiss in the second game already?. After seeing various streams of Cloti fans reacting so neagatively about the "dream date" scene between Cloud and Aerith, whatever it happens in the 3rd game is going to be a shitshow with this "shipping wars" if the lyrics of No promises to keep end up being true that's for sure....

Nojima is doing his best by trying to provide fan service that they want and giving us a cohesive narrative . But some cloud and tifa supporters are refusing to see the bigger picture . Moreover , there is a clear parallel between tifa’s resolution in remake and aerith’s dream date in rebirth . In tifa’s resolution everything is so dark , Cloud hurts tifa during the hug , it feels so artificial . It causes her pain . While with aerith the room is full of light and warmth, cloud is natural in his behaviour, he has a firm embrace , but she feels comfortable with him . They fit very well together .

Funny enough there is even stuff in TIFA centered events. In Tifa's chapter 8 gold saucer date if they talk to Aerith she says how, after seeing them on a 'date' she thinks she should find somebody to go with. It's the same in part 1, too. When you check on Tifa, she asks Cloud if he's sure there isn't something more going on with Aerith. He gets flustered and doesn't deny it. In Tifa's secret cutscene, she mentions how she knew something was going on between them. Again, Cloud doesn't deny it. At first, I was disappointed because they didn‘t kiss, but after finishing the game I think holding hands is even more meaningful. In Japanese culture this is “the first thing they do when start dating”. They hold hands three times and 2 of them are in non optional scenes. Really hope their kiss happens on part 3, they are way past the first date after all! Actually I lost count…

@@slayer1156 Exactly, the Japanese express themselves in a different way, much more indirect and subtle. The same goes for the language. They almost never say “I love you”, even married couples. “Suki” best translated as “like” is used to express a romantic interest, depending on the context. As you said every interaction between them means a lot. Some people just don’t see or choose to ignore.

When I was much younger, I didn't care much about the love triangle of FF7. I think I might have even slightly preferred Tifa as a child. But as I got older and revisited the original game, and fell in love with Kingdom Hearts where Clerith was subtle but obviously implied, I began to really consider this ship. Then we got Remake and I was just BLOWN AWAY by how GOOD they were together. Cloud and Aerith went from being a couple I was only mildly invested in to possibly TIED for my favorite videogame romance of all time (with Justin/Feena from Grandia; and that game is a huge nostalgia bias for me). You could really see these two getting closer and falling for each other, while the potential tragedy of her death loomed large in players' (and maybe Aerith's) minds. And now here in this game their love for each other is just undeniable. Aerith outright SAYS she likes Cloud, while he spends nearly the whole game looking at her with hearts in his eyes and getting hugely jealous about her past with Zack or even the THOUGHT of her finding someone else (as seen when going on a "date" with Tifa in chapter 8). I can acknowledge and respect the rival ships, so I just DON'T UNDERSTAND how they can't do the same when the game is blatantly obvious about these two liking each other. I genuinely wonder how they interpret and justify Cloud willingly going on MULTIPLE dates with Aerith non-optionally (beginning in Kalm, end of the game, and even optionally as a sidequest) as well as the implications of him "sneaking" pictures of her and, again, getting clearly jealous of her relationship with Zack. It's just ridiculous to claim Cloud DOESN'T like her romantically! For instance, I'm not disputing he's attracted to Tifa. Scenes like Costa del Sol make that pretty obvious. But while she was definitely given more attention and emphasis in the story than I expected (Remake genuinely came across to me like he was ONLY interested in Aerith, but this game definitely tried to balance the girls more), I do think most of her moments with Cloud illustrated how they don't really work well together. Especially their early interactions were so strained, with Cloud being closed off, distant, or outright suspicious of her, and Tifa getting hurt because he didn't act the way she wanted/expected. It's just such a clear contrast to his much easier relationship with Aerith (which only gets complicated once they hit Gongaga and he starts thinking she might be "off the table", as it were). Like it's pretty damning that the DAY after a big fight with Tifa he casually goes on a date with Aerith. Right at the beginning of the game! Pretty clear where Cloud's feelings lie, regardless of the player's feelings. Personally I think he only has a romantic future with Tifa IF Aerith is out of the picture, and it's not an easy road for them at all. I really hope part 3 gives Cloud and Aerith a happy ending. I'm worried it won't be a single, canon ending, but even if their ending is player-driven, I'll take it. I just want her to live and FINALLY be happy with Cloud, after they've lost each other not just in OG FF7, but spinoff material as well. They've spent SO MANY games and universes trying to make it back to each other, so just let them be happy already!

I’m just curious but what makes you think cloud is attracted to tifa this game? It’s clear the the devs intentionally add more tifa scenes to balnce out the girls’ screentime. But after doing all her quests, I fail to see anything that could be called romantic attraction (though some of these tifa quests are very cute). Except for the gold saucer date, what other scene with tifa is romantic to you? I’m not judging, just genuinely wondering.

@@quangthaitruong7960 Yeah all of Tifa's quests are mostly friendly based. If you replace Tifa with a guy the scene will turn out the same while Aerith's quests are way more romantic. The only non-optional romantic scene between Cloud and Tifa is the scene where they almost kiss in Gongaga in chapter 9. As a clerith shipper i have to admit, it was very cute. But still nowhere near to the Clerith moments.

@@quangthaitruong7960 Compared to Remake, much more emphasis was placed on Cloud and Tifa TRYING to connect... but failing at it. I'd personally classify a lot of the earlier scenes in the game as having romantic tension between them, since it's obvious they both DO care a lot about the other and WANT to be closer (not necessarily romantic, but potentially). It's just repeatedly shown that they struggle at this and probably don't mesh well. The FEELINGS are there, but their personalities clash and make it strained and painful compared to Cloud's interactions with Aerith. I didn't say that I think Cloud is undeniably "in love" with Tifa for a reason though. I said he is ATTRACTED to her. As in, physically/sexually into her. The scene where the ladies come to the beach in Costa del Sol focuses on TIFA. It's possible Cloud was equally into Aerith's beachwear, but Tifa got the focus there and clearly flustered or outright turned him on. For me personally, coming out of Rebirth, I think it's clear that Cloud and Aerith are attracted to each other emotionally AND physically, while Tifa definitely loves Cloud and his feelings for her are a bit more nebulous. She's gorgeous and he's aware of it now (which he might NOT have been in Remake, since he didn't care at all about her appearance in Wall Market while he was stunned by Aerith's best dress), and he definitely wants to be closer to her BUT it's up in the air whether he genuinely loves both girls romantically or Tifa is a wish fulfillment thing - finally getting to be friends with the girl he's watched from afar since childhood. And personally, even if he DOES like her romantically, I think Aerith is still the better, healthier choice for everyone involved. He and Tifa just do not communicate well at all and even later in the game are STILL fumbling and hurting each other. With Aerith, the only real issue is whether Zack is still "in the way", so to speak. Otherwise they get along really well and are able to be open in vulnerable and help each other a lot.

I feel similarly I played the OG for the first time about a decade ago already an adult and wanted to see what all the hubbub was about it having heard nothing but good things about it even though I had long been spoiled on nearly every twist(I somehow wasn't spoiled on Cloud's whole deal) and didn't much care about the romance but what I really identified with and still remember was Cloud's whole arc of self acceptance and learning to be ok with himself. Other than a few character moments and iconic scenes like Barret and Dyne fighting, Red realizing his father wasn't a coward and Nibelheim burning most of the other stuff I've forgotten. Should play it again one day soon. Anyway the Remakes have completely changed things the characters have so much more presence now especially Aerith like holy 💩 she has so much personality and basically stole every scene she was in now I'm all aboard the Clerith train and there ain't any getting off these tracks any time soon baby😎

I don't really comment, but this has been bothering me a little. I have not played any Final Fantasy 7 games at all. I saw Remake, the OG version and I am watching someone stream this on Twitch. You can tell. You can just tell because it is not the same with Tifa and I like Tifa, but they are toxic for each other. There are no games with Aerith. She tells it how it is, and Cloud has always been someone that you need to confront, not head games or guessing games. This is real human emotions, but in a game. I feel like people who actually and truly discovered love (and it can be through trial and error) knows the gestures. how that person acts nervous but is weirdly comfortable with you, their voice and composure. He can't do that with Tifa. I watched and read a lot of stuff to see was it just me who only saw that. It is not a "Zack Thing". The streamer said without Zack and Aerith there would be no Cloud and Tifa. Hell, Zack wasn't supposed to be in Final Fantasy 7 in the first place. She was Cloud love interest from the start. Tifa is someone that could 'also' be a love interest. When Tifa was talking about something at the hotel with Cloud and I'm like why she keeps going off topic and it turns out she was testing him to see if he was listening. No one got the energy for that especially with Cloud's personality and Aerith is someone that watches him closely and without him knowing, Cloud learned to do the same thing too with Aerith. Bluntly, Cloud does not do any of the caring and considerate gestures for Tifa, he does not smile the same way, he does not laugh or anything like that towards her. It slowly became Aerith and now it fully is. Aerith throws Cloud off and sometimes, depending on the purpose you need someone to make you uncomfortable in a good way to bring out the best of your personality and Aerith does it without having to try too hard. I was just saying you don't have to be psychologist or the FBI to notice it in people behaviors. They literally put it in the game! You can see the difference. I feel like they made it obvious depending on who you pick how the relationship would be. Even if they are not dating, you can tell. The dates with all the girls aren't even the same. Physical connection will never be the same as an inner and outer connection. Seeing Cloud and Aerith together makes me feel that same feeling because I know. Literal chills throughout my entire being watching those two.

Great comment. This is what i'm Talking about. Let's appreciate the work of the creators because they brilliantly portrayed the characters and their relationships. I 100% agree. There is a completely different chemistry between Cloud and Aerith. Every time Cloud is defensive Aerith smashes that wall by not acknowledging his comments. Cloud succumbs to her every time because deep down he is not as he appears. And she sees it that's why she told him several times "she wants to find the real you" I don't know why there will be so many rude comments from Tifa's fans or Aerith's haters. You have your theories which the game has successfully debunked and you still constantly throw out hateful comments in these types of videos. I didn't respond to the boorish comments so I'll say something like this. For Aerith Zack will always be important in her life, but it is Cloud that she has now chosen to her heart ( many times the game has shown us this) Those who think Aerith is dead. Aerith is alive, Cloud saved her by creating a new timeline or world. Those who think they know what will happen in part 3 know nothing. The game has already shown that it does not flow according to the OG. There are multiworlds, timelines. And in the 3rd part the plot can go in a completely different direction.

The 1st one called Aerith a "5 year old kid" and a cheater the moment she heard Marlene saying that Aerith liked Cloud. The 2nd one was all the time saying "bitch don't touch him, he belongs to Tifa" visibly upset every time during the "dream date" scene. The 3rd one during that same scene said that she didn't want to play anymore. This is a great part of the fandom of this game. People that call themselves "fans" of FF VII. Total bullshit. What you are, is only a fan of a virtual character, not the game. If you hate Aerith, then you don't like FF VII at all, simple as that. I'm not totally blaming them though. When they trick you into thinking you have a choice and then the game and the protagonists choose over yourself, it's normal to feel upset. I blame Square Enix itself for this.

@AhhZeeOww2 I do agree with @skywalkera836, The story clearly revolves around Aerith and Sephiroth's machination having cloud as the catalyst for both of their plans. Cloud already got his theme to set the tone of the remake (Hollow), Aerith got hers in rebirth with No promises to keep, for which if you examine the lyrics, the hope of it is like an answer to despair of Hollow. Since the last theme is most likely going to be made by Nobuo given the latest IGN interview, I think he'll want to complete is musical storytelling with maybe a piece centered around Sephiroth. Still, as iconic as he is, it would be weird to have the final theme be centered around the villain unless they go the route of the tragic villain route like they did with Emet selk in FF14, however I don't think that would fit well for Seph character. (But I wouldn't say no for a musical scene at the crater where he sing us his song). Best case I can see, is a Trio song theme where Sephiroth comes to oppose both Hollow (Cloud) and No promises to keep (Aerith) common theme, to find each other again and never let go. But both Cloud and Aerith hopes for a reunion become his undoing. At least that's how I imagine it, whatever we get, I know it will be great and I'll love it

Even the way they speak to each other in Japanese is so married couple coded. Cloud be saying stuff like “I will come pick you up and bring you to my side” and “Wait for me” while Aerith be saying “Welcome Back” and “Take Care” like a housewife. She even says in Japanese “No matter what happens. We will be together” when she gives the Black Materia to him. Cloud will definitely marry her if given the chance 100%.

Here me out - people are pissed that Tifa's date ended in a kiss and Aerith's didn’t. BUT when you factor in the song Aerith wrote about Cloud that she performed right before the skywheel, the hand-holding guesture actually says A LOT more. By holding her hand he's non-verbally doing exactly what she said in the song, 'Take my hand and believe we can be together ever more.' He's telling her without words that he knows that was directed at him and he's reciprocating. Basically saying yes I want to be together evermore. That's why he's so nervous, because it's so meaningful. Sure, their date could have ended in a kiss, but would it have been SO MEANINGFUL? Would it have communicated that Cloud wants to be with Aerith forever more?

Her not kissing Cloud as of this moment is a good thing for the story. Because it flows nicely to when they hold hands together as lovers after defeating Sephiroth. If they had shared a kiss it would not have been consistent with the story. They just are not there yet and the devs are playing the long game in developing them further. It was intentional imo. We will see in Part 3. For the record, I’m not pissed. The devs know what they’re doing. We Cleriths play the long game when it comes to romance.

Cloud trusts Aerith to be by herself for the moment because he believes in her strength. Was it not the two of them that forcefully made Sephiroth kneel and made him tactically retreat during the final battle? Aerith is not weak. She was raised in the slums and can handle herself and focus on stopping Meteor while Cloud can concentrate on stopping Sephiroth. But yes she is very sad to part ways with Cloud because that’s her friend and lover. The ending is actually a happy one because she is seen smiling looking at the sky. Whereas before this, during the ending of Remake, she didn’t like seeing the sky. She is alive in a new world. That’s why the game is called Rebirth. Its referred to what Cloud did for Aerith when he parried Sephiroth’s blade. A new world where Aerith is alive and well.

I just want to mention one thing in regards to the "Cloud saved Aerith and she's alive in *some* way": Look at the scene when Cloud and Sephiroth clash their blades (17:00 -17:17). Cloud is visibly struggling againsts it while Sephiroth looks as smug as ever. That is until the final moments before Cloud successfully parries. When camera closes on their eyes, Cloud's show just how much he puts his everything to stop this (17:18-17:19), Sephiroth's meanwhile hold his cold stare and then slowy widen as if thinking "Is he..?"/"It can't be..." (17:19 -17:20). You know what happens next, Cloud is able to push back and knock off Masamune from Sephiroth's hands. At least, in this one and, probably, only timeline. To me, it just confirms that Aerith is alive and may come back. Of course, we'll only know in Part 3 but taking into the account how many things the devs HAVE TO put in there (the Dirge of Cerberus characters of all things XD) I think it's a definitive possibility for the two of them to finally get their happy ending. PS. I do wonder how will handle Tifa tho (if the theory is proved true), whether we like it or not this will have to be adressed one way or another.

I think that they will bring her back, not by reviving her outright, I think we'll have to sacrifice something. But I also think that their play will come at the very least past the half point. Maybe it will be the climax of the next game.

I've been seeing the theory that the "multiple timelines" stuff is all a red herring and is all just taking place in the Lifestream itself starting to gain traction and people are using the minor NPC in Cosmo Canyon who described somebody dreaming of another world before dieing as proof of foreshadowing. Of course then Sephiroth going on and on about multiple worlds and wanting to absorb every single "The Planet" in existence puts a damper on that imo. Anybody reading this feel free to weigh in I'd be curious to hear thoughts on this.

I've said this in other places but I will say it again for you. She is most definitely alive and will be a major playable character in FF7R3. There is too much left unvisited with her in terms of gameplay (final weapon, final limit break, and teaming up with Vincent and Cid) and story (why build up this whole "changing fate" BS if you're not gonna fulfill that storyline for the better) for her to become a background character. I'd imagine that a few chapters into R3, the two timelines will intersect and she will rejoin the party. It would be a massive disappointment and missed opportunity were she not to be playable IMO.

This video absolutely helps people understand the true love between cloud and aerith. There is no option between Cloud and Tifa or Aerith... there is no Cloud and Tifa, and Tifa knows it. The way Tifa shows disappointment but acceptance of it. She sees it, and she knows how much they love each other. Some players may want to ship them believing they are canon, but the true canon in this remake series is Cloud and Aerith. The entire premise behind it all is a man with a troubled past who finds the love of his life and does everything in his power to challenge fate, knowing what it has in store for her, and doing everything in his power to protect the woman he loves. Perhaps this is why he can still see her, as their love for one another is so powerful it created an alternate reality. Sephiroth sees this as well, and it interferes with his plans to destroy the planet and gain ultimate power. Cloud does not care so much to save the planet. He wishes to protect the woman he loves and be with her forever. Sephiroth is attempting to merge all realities, including the one created between the love Cloud and Aerith have for one another. This is why he tries tricking him, saying he's just a puppet and he doesn't have feelings towards her. But Cloud knows otherwise, and he knows how he feels towards her, and he will stop at nothing to prevent her cruel fate from becoming a reality.

After analyzing the final date scene, one that stood out to me was how this was perhaps the only time in all of the major FF7 games/movies that we see Cloud just having a normal, carefree day. He is not on a mission or a job, nor fighting any monsters or just surviving, he is not Cloud the merc or the Soldier, he is just Cloud, a young man, out on a simple date with a girl he is fond of. And he just looks...content (preview pic ftw). In my opinion, there are two standout scenes in Rebirth where he just seems almost completely carefree and happy; when he gets turned into Moogle Cloud(lol) and the final date scene. I saw a few comments expressing disappointment on why CA did not get a kiss as well. Now that I think about it, I am actually glad the devs didn't do that, as it still just seems a little too early for that. I wouldn't want fan demands to dictate the story. And to me, this scene is way better than any shallow kiss scenes without any buildup. Instead, they just have CA share a normal day together, something Cloud probably hasn't had since his very early teenage days. Also, the contrast between him not getting what he wants (i.e. his chosen gift) during the date vs Aerith's acceptance of whatever she can get is just a masterclass in storytelling, it's beautiful. This is why I love the CA chemistry; the emotional intimacy is off the charts! Sadly though, this is something most FF7 fans just fail to understand or care about. And most people moaning about canon or not; are subtleties just lost on everyone nowadays? The devs don't need to announce a canon ship, this non-optional scene alone tells you who Cloud has romantic interests towards, he just literally agrees to go on more dates with her, regardless of the GS choice, doesn't that pretty conclusively mean they both agreed to be more than friends before he loses her? Do we really need neon signs or something? Sigh... Finally, the empty white materia that he carries now around is probably the most interesting and intriguing new thing about part 3, can't wait to see what they do with Aerith's final gift to him.
