Ben is absolutely right, I never played the original and had no problem following the story, and the ending is cool because it leaves you with a lot of questions that I assume will be answered in the following games.

Yeah, besides the only things you don't know or understand at that point, you are not supposed to know at that moment. That's what some people forget who played the whole original. At the point where you leave midgar in the original you knew just as much as to what is going on in the complete Story.

Well.. no, because they are clearly playing this like it's groundhogs day and are not telling newcomers that they missed the first 30 minutes of the movie. The Remake title is a deceptive move to entice newcomers (to let them think that they are playing FFVII) and keep the old timers while surprising them with a sequel. For example: the remake's botched introduction to Sephiroth (the original is so much better) is clearly for those that played the original while newcomers are like,; I'm I supposed to know this guy?

This isn't a natural story related mystery though. This is sort of fourth wall breaking "did you play the first game?" wink wink kinda mystery that new players will be stunned by.@@HydraTower

@KrimsonKracker I 100% agree! I'm a huge FFV fan, and anytime Gilgamesh shows up, I get excited. I hope he doesn't end up just being a superboss, similar to FFXII and FFXIII-2.

I disagree with Janet saying you can’t know what’s going on if you didn’t play the original. I played Remake first and it was perfectly understandable.

Yes and no. There's elements of mystery that make next to zero sense if you never played og (or Crises Core). Especially regarding Zack... but yes, the main narrative is largely understandable, long as people are okay with having no clue who Sephiroth is or what he wants or what his exact relationship is with these characters (thankfully explained ALREADY by the Rebirth demo).

I'm looking at some of these comments and I just want to defend Janet for a second: she's 100% right and it's insane to me to see people acting like it's a hot take to say that Remake is confusing or hard to grasp. I get it that some first timers were able to follow Remake just fine and that is (genuinely) awesome, but it has so many confusing elements and missing context. It's so easy to see how the story can lose some first-timers (and some non first-timers, I remember a certain Joe Juba in the Deepest Dive calling parts of it a failure in storytelling).

I have played the original and even I think Remake flies completely off the rails and stops making sense at the end. The spooky ghosts are never really addressed, and what is Zack supposed to be? Who is Sephiroth and why is he teleporting to different dimensions? What does he have to do with Avalanche and the Mako Reactors?? They knew they'd have loose ends, and just crammed more in-between, then went on a very self-indulgent hallucinogenic trip. I agree it's a failure of story-telling.

I mean, if you say you understood the story of Remake (acknowledging that there is a mystery and a lot of questions at the end), I'm not gonna say anything otherwise. I hate these marketing campaigns where they literally show us all regions and all the game before we play it. The whole mistery and sense of exploration is thrown out the window. It's pretty clear they care more about money and marketing than actually providing us with an interesting experience.

If they were doing it JUST for the money, there wouldn't be this much optional content lol A FFVII remake was highly demanded for decades. It would sell just as well if it DIDN'T have all this optional content. They didn't have to spend all the time, money, and effort to make the game as big as they did.

I wonder for the shippers why CloudxAerith why would/should Cloud be with Aerith over Tifa. From the way I see it I really think the story is pretty clear canon that AerithxZack & CloudxTifa are what the devs are going for. Plus if Aerith ultimately gets with Cloud what happens with Tifa does she get with Jhonny? It makes no sense for CloudxAerith
