Kyle is missed here for the Rise of the Ronin gameplay, since no one present really dived into the Nioh games or Wo Long. The gameplay showed stance system, parrying system, main weapon and side weapon switching mid-combat, a grapple hook, a flamethrower, etc. It looked like a very nice mix of Nioh and Wo Long, along with many new systems. It's the exact gameplay many people are waiting for and excited about. But no, no comments about any of that. Everyone kept commenting on some random things like horses, or bringing up Like a Dragon or Assassin's Creed. It's frustrating.

Currently an Xbox owner this gen, but that was a cracking showing from Sony on this State of Play. Many games look great, but out of many, personally Rise of the Ronin and DS look like my cup of tea.

@@Nexdex I've played through the game on both consoles, and yes, it's definitely improved. I was oversimplifying in my comment for sure. For me, I experienced a lot of frame stutters on PS5.

You guys should really give these weird idea asian-made games from non-established western devs (like FromSoft, Square, Kojima, Team Ninja, etc) more credit lol. Seems like all of the crew checks out as soon as anything like Stellar Blade or any JRPG gets shown during these showcases. They showed off basic setting and cutscenes, but then it felt like the crew was giving it a hard time for no reason. Happens fairly often tbh Stellar Blade looks way more ambitious and well-made than I initially thought based off the initial teasers. Definitely gonna be hyped for that one in April

I'll agree Stellar Blade looks more ambitious than I thought it did before, but that isn't necessarily a good thing. I mean look at Starfield, I'm someone who actually loves that game, but I'd say 95% of it's flaws came from over ambition. Stellar Blade shows some similar signs of "spread thinness" from what I can see here.

Were you trying to say "Asian games from studios that are not well established or known in the west" because they are interested in games from all of the studios you listed. Death Stranding 2 looks way more weird and off the wall than Stellar Blade and they were all in. Your point is moot as far as weirdness goes. The story in Stellar Blade looks a bit dull and flat compared to campy Japanese hack n' slash games like DMC, MGR and Bayonetta. *They were interested in Stellar Blade when it was showing gameplay.* They're giving it a fair shot. In real life people have specific tastes. That's just the way it is. Scolding someone for not, e.g. enjoying RTS games is very childish. Nobody should have to pretend to enjoy or be interested in media that they dislike to appease those who do. That's just wrong. People don't have to like everything and some tropes and trends in Asian media (a broad brush but we're mostly talking about Japan and South Korea) will not appeal to everyone.

@@OfficialCrowMauler We only ever got her side of the story from my understanding of the situation. It also seems like she was very vocally critical on many aspects of the game's design publically while its been in development, so its not exactly black & white on why she was let go. She could have been an internal disgruntled employee for several reasons Not saying people shouldn't listen to employees in these cases, she very well could be telling the truth and should get her justice if so. Definitely would encourage other employees to speak up if they also have issues. But this thread seems to be implying Jacob or others should be boycotting the game rn. Don't see how thats exactly fair when plenty of games made by Ubisoft, Activision, Blizzard, etc have been doing far worse on a far larger scale, but still get plenty of non-stained coverage on this channel. Shift Up is a newer studio in Korea, where they very well could face closure if their reputation is tarnished and the 1 game they make bombs because of it. They may or may not deserve their rep to be damaged, but people should encourage discussing nuance with stuff like this before deciding to tell others to blacklist. Especially when this isnt a billion dollar corporation and not one abiding by Western idealogies in company structure.
