I’m glad I’m not the only one who saw the resemblance. Large, white flowing coat, son of a rich corporate man, does a lot of weird stuff with money, and has a fight against the spiky haired protagonist, who has a mentor of sorts living within himself, who he mistakes as himself at first. The protagonist would then go on to fight against a white haired antagonist who he originally thought of as a friend and ally, wielding a power similar to him, and aided by a strange, millennia-old being who is bent on obtaining subjugation of the world. Wow, there’s a lot more similarities between yugioh and ff7 than I thought.

At least this one was entirely retroactive. 1 movie, 2 animes, then you can play the game and then the 4 DLCs that should have been in the game and THEN it mostly made sense. 😾

@@JiayuanD Yep, you can play the base game of FF7 and have a complete story. However, it you want some extra tidbits, you can play Crisis Core to find out more about Zack (and see Sephiroth be normal. I love CC Sephiroth and how chill he was) or watch the movie Advent Children. Aaand if you want even more than that, you can pull out your PS2 and play Dirge of Cerberus, set after Advent Children, lol. I've not read the novels so Riku, I mean Noctis, I mean Yozora, I mean Leslie was a completely new character to me. People have had years to consume all of this content (and the cutscenes of the games are available by various KZbinrs) but none of if is necessary for the base game to be understood. I enjoyed XV even with its flaws but that's certainly where this game differs from that; hopefully the base game will make you want to indulge in the extras but they're not absolutely essential to find out the general plot.

to be fair... Zack's last stand and the Advent Children clips were all pieces of FF7's storyline proper. The former was just a re-render of CC's version of Zack on the cliff, and the latter were just copy/paste clips of Advent Children's prologue (none of which were from AC's actual plot). The Compilation could've never existed and all of these flashbacks/flash-forwards would be considered old story content. Any tiny nods to characters from Compilation, like Kunsel or Kadaj, can be considered easter eggs that aren't really important imo
