It's sad that the old cast was fired due to corporate politics between Sony and Warner Bros (one of the voice directors used is solely a Warner Bros voice director), which is why we see the recasting with all Warner Bros actors. I hope Square would consider a DLC of some of the old cast so we can have dual audio like what Konami did with Silent Hill and what Square Enix did for Star Ocean. I think it would be awesome to also let the old voice actors voice these character too - after all they were told for 5 years they would be voicing this game and then fire last minute without given a reason why. Nothing against the new cast, I think they are great for the younger generation, but I certainly miss the old cast.

I disagree about Tifa: I preferred the deeper voice and thought it was appropriate for her character. In Advent Children, Rachel Leigh Cook's Tifa sounded too similar to Mena Suvari's Aerith. I like that the remake gave the two women drastically different voices to further cement the differences in their characters. And I didn't mind Sephiroth at all.

@@GeonusKaikun KH2, Mobius, Dissidia, etc. Especially in Mobius. He had a commanding tone, with the deep and husky voice. Sephiroth now sounds like a whiny emo teenager. But then again you seem like you're not a fan of Sephiroth's character

As someone whose never played the OG FF7 (or any of the other FF7 complication games) as well never watched Advent Children, I could immediately tell something was off with Sephiroth's voice. I wasn't sure what it was, maybe it's because I did play the KH series, but I knew that his voice just didn't suit him. Now like you said his performance made up for it, and there are some times where his voice acting nailed the scene. (I mean, come on, that "Embrace me" line, that was just... man I don't know how to say it. Cloud was straight up gonna kill him right there. It was perfect! Also for a while, I thought Steve Burton was voicing Cloud, (again I heard him from the KH series) until I heard his voice a little longer to know it wasn't the same VA. But I actually thought Cody did a nice job as Cloud, I think it has to do with the fact that he barely is getting to know Cloud as a character so he wasn't able to really get in depth with him as Steve has. Also, I'm gonna be honest, I really didn't like Tifa's old voice. I mean it's nice, but it was just too high pitched for me. She sounded borderline whiny at times and it was pretty annoying to me. But Brit's voice, I thought she pulled off the caring, motherly tone in Tifa that really stands out in her character. I won't deny it was a little too low for Tifa since I imagined her to have more a middle pitch. but I still think she was pretty amazing as Tifa. And I completely agree with you Aerith was easily the best casted voice. It was like she was born for that role! And as much as I hated Hojo, his voice was so darn perfect! He made Hojo sound like a crazy scientist (and it gave him character!). And Roche! You hit the nail in that one! I was disappointed he wasn't added more after Chapter 4. Square! Listen to this guy! Bring our crazy motorcyclist back! (And to be honest, I heard his Japanese voice, pretty good but I prefer his English voice more.

I kind of thought it would've been better if John Bowman was Sephiroth (he'd have to change it up a tad of course), Tyler was either Biggs or Zack and Gideon would give Rufus a shot. That or have whoever voiced Zack to deepen his voice. High, nasal, cocky does not work for Zack.

I however will give credit where credit is due. Caleb could fit a younger less mature and more cocky Zack than the mature grown up Zack, at least imo. Tyler. While he doesn't sound demonic. Scary, or evil. He sounds like a maniac, like a man you'd expect to hurt you. Like that speech he gave Cloud about killing his mom. Wasn't nearly as menacing as Newbern's performance but he sounded like he enjoyed it, like he was insane. Other than that I agree. Total miscast

Agreed, and Sephiroth was only "bad" entirely because they already had the perfect voice for the character and you can tell the new guy's trying his best. Zack though, what in Bahamut Super Butoden were they thinking with that casting choice!?

Good assessment, appreciate your insight on the voice acting - it's generally not really I follow too deeply - but aside from Aerith & Roche I agree with you. I was so excited in the run up to meeting the character again and was so disappointed and eager to ditch her after quarter of an hour. Way too twee, way too high pitched and vacuous. But some of that I blame on the writing. Roche made me embarrassed to play the game. I don't know what else to say.

The voice acting in ff7 remake for english gave me the strangest boner. Especially for Sephiroth. He SNAKED his way too CLOSE left me shook, but I do miss the old seph and zack VC actors. The new ones are a lil off persay?

I respectfully and wholeheartedly disagree with many points in this video. I generally liked most of the new cast. When it comes to Zack, I feel it’s too soon to judge. He literally had like two lines of dialogue or so. I feel Sephiroth has room to grow but even then, he definitely has time to do so with the upcoming parts of the remake. Seems the new cast is getting nit picked by many when the old cast had been voicing these characters for YEARS. Remember KH1 Sephiroth? It was a different VA from George Newbern. The perfect voice doesn’t always come along on the first try whether it be voice direction or entirely new VA. Other words, it’s barely the new casts’ first try. They’ll only get better in my opinion. I look forward to seeing them again.

@@Imagivotion Well, just compare anything actually produced to be displayed in English, like any Pixar animation, for example, and you'll see how the characters just have more "life" in their voice and intonations. Actually, you can compare the English voice acting in FF7 Remake to the Japanese one and see how superior the Japanese is, full of emotion and, say, full of "humanity" in it.

I feel like cloud sounded like a wet piece of cardboard for most of the game. Even in remake he was way better especially at the start and his back and fourth bickering with Barrett but most of the voice lines he does in rebirth feel so flat and emotionless especially in tense situations. Unless he screams someone’s name who just died but that’s it.

I listened to a FFVII Remake playthrough and Yikes!! Tyler Hochelin as Sephiroth was laughable---he's fine in Superman and Lois but as Sephiroth!?! Just NO...I don't even want to try to hear whoever did Zack because I just adore his character voice in Crisis Core.

1st FF game i liked since the original FF7 on PS1 sooo was all other game so much worse or what?? i cant say,but i loved ff7remake integrad adn during 1st day of gameplay i had suddenly played it until early morning and was surprised all together....Really loved the games voice acting Cloude tifa and barret...Would have seen more of Jessi in the game but i guess she still ows be a PIZZA.

I didn't like what they did with Sephiroth at all in this game. But I've never thought of him as a deep voice guy. Rather an unrelenting, consummately composed, normal with a contained edge. Sephiroth's intimidation comes from him being effortlessly superior, able to dispatch any foe with minimal effort. So while I don't think the remake VA got it right, I disagree when people say it wasn't deep enough.
