For me when it comes to Final Fantasy VII, i have to say that what truly captured me was the enviroment setting, from a tyranical yet somewhat futuristic almost CyberPunk-ish and militaristic city like Midgar to the mountain quiet life such as Nibelheim and Cosmo Canyon, FFVII has a bit of everything in that regard. Also Vincent the most coolest character in the game, as for Team Four Star's parody of the game my favorites has to be President Shinra because that's pretty much how i envisioned him at least in matters of speaking and Vincent because of his hatred for "HOJO"

The materia system is the best progression system in any game. Its separate from the characters so you can work on them regardless of your pt setup. You get lightning in the begining. So you can set it to double growth slots to get bolt3 by the time you get back to midgar at the end of the game where everything is weak to lightning. Better yet, you can put 2 thunder materias on double growth so you can have 2 bolt3s which you can pair with all and mp absorb for a free screen nuke. Its really a chess game you can use to break the game if you know the right moves.

I didn't play FF7 until 2013, not believing the hype. But damn after beating it I was converted, it is truly a special game. Its not even my favorite Final Fantasy, that would be 10, 6 and 9 but its incredible. I don't like the term "holds up" because every game "hold's up" if you meet it where it is and not expect modernization. There's a reason FF7 is still praised. Which makes me so sad by how the remake has panned out. It didn't need a remake anyway but my god its like modern square has no idea what made the game special.

So just to clear up the whole Aeris vs Aerith thing, the way it was explained to me is that Aeris is a mistranslation. Since the game was made in Japan, the japanese pronunciation of her name is "Aerisu" so in the original english release, they had the name as Aeris because Japanese doesnt have a "th" sound, so it caused the mistranslation. This is why in Remake and i believe in more modern releases of the original such as the mobile version, console, and steam, it has the name as Aerith, correcting that mistake in the original English version.

Good video. Your experience with the game mirrors my own as we're around the same age, also having recently been introduced to anime before playing the game for the first time. Still get chills with that opener. FFVII has to be my most influential game. It sent me on a path of JRPGs in the late 90s, early 2000s; a dragon I'm still chasing. No game has ever quite captured the feeling I got going through the first reactor of FFVII for the first time. You lose me about 10 minutes in when you describe Squall as 'just a dick' before immediately explain how Cloud grows as a character, learning to let others in and the value of friends when Squall goes on that exact same journey. He too learns those same lessons. It honestly comes across like you've either never played FF8 or that you weren't paying attention when you did, and is such a "hur hur i'm so edgy" take on the game, that i'm just not going to bother watching the rest of the video, or any other videos on your channel. There's plenty to complain about in FF8, but complaining that the main character is 'just a dick' while completely ignoring his entire character arc is just a big miss.

Great video but there is a point that you made that I would like to fact check you on. You said that Mario 64's 3D levels took up more space than a location in FF7. Mario 64 fit on an 8MB cartridge and its levels were primarily made up of extremely compressed textures placed on top of simple geometric shapes to make a level. These textures were mostly repeated and reused across various levels to keep level sizes down. FF7 similarly used simple geometric 3D shapes to build a basic boundary for a 'screen'. These shapes were then coloured green and were chroma keyed out. They were then replaced with a high quality (for the time) pre-rendered background which occasionally had various frames to create animation. There is arguably more texture work in one scene in FF7 than there is across the entirety of Mario 64.

Ha ha I did a bit because the story is just a mess. When I do ff8, I am going through the whole story
@silverslider56210 ай бұрын
@@RetroWarsuk I agree that the story is a mess lol That’s why I’ve been looking for a video that recaps it in simple terms. Even when I played the game back on the PS1, I recall feeling that the story was a mess. After seeing dozens of KZbin videos attempt to recap the story, I’m just left with further proof of what a mess the story is 😂 However, the music is excellent, and the cutscenes were revolutionary for their time. Despite this, I still believe the game is often overrated due to nostalgic sentiments and its association with a simpler era for many fans. Objectively I don’t rank it as high on my top 5 FF games as your average FF Stan does. The remakes are a refreshing retelling of the story with modern graphics and gameplay mechanics but I can’t deny how much I hate that it’s being released in installments which force players to make three or four different purchases over the span of years when it’s all said and done. Makes it feel like players are now forced into a money trap just to play a remake of a game that originally gave you the entire story with just one purchase.

good video. FF7 was formative for me as it was for millions of teens who experienced it when it dropped. it made me drop the n64 and move the PSX (and i'm very thankful for that alone, lol). My biggest note about the video though is that you should really show stuff on screen that corresponds to what you're talking about. i know, it takes time to edit, but you made a gushing 1hr video essay and it's so hard to follow visually because it is usually unrelated gameplay footage on screen. this is mostly an issue at the beginning as you do do this later one in the video..... when you're talking about the character design, show the sketches on screen! mentioned the Sony/Nintendo partnership? show the SNES PS addon, Nintendo/Phillips? Show the Zelda CDi games! Ruby/Emerald, etc etc. good luck and keep it up! i look forward to checking more of your stuff out. PS i hated FF7R, what a disaster.

Cloud is not an emo edgelord like a lot of people think he is. He's just got a dry sense of humor. There are plenty of times in the game where he jokes around or laughs. Even in the remake, he's just really dry and all business. You can get a sense he's just really confused. Personally, I feel as though he still feels inferior for never having gotten into SOLDIER, even though as "Zack-Cloud" he thinks he did. My guess it's a suppressed memory that is creeping forward. But yeah, this emo Cloud nonsense has to stop.

Honestly I don't consider sephirof the villain of the story. Jenova is the real villain of this game.

Nah I reckon its sephy, I think J could have been but Sephy took over it's will

@@RetroWarsuk everything traces back to her tho. She wiped out the cetra, caused the northern crater which the planet was still healing from millennias later, and her cells manipulated sephirof and even cloud.
