looks like he got his sword back from cloud. I for got this song plays when you fight him, it really fits the mood. An unexpected fight. 1:13 that part scared me, made me jump. When i was younger that part always catch me off gard.

This fight is very much luck based; if you can get off a Lionheart or two quickly enough, he's toast, but if he decides to spam Light Pillar, you are pretty much fucked.

TripleHate33 Even without lionheart you can still whoop it's ass, just make sure squall has 200+ Str.

Good fight, oh, and I like your name for Squall :-) I did Ultima yesterday with Selphie (lv 13), Squall (lv 20) and Quistis (lv 15). This gives a simpler fight, although Light Pillar will still do 9999 damage. 2 bits of advice - grind the ultimate draw point at Shumi Village. Takes about 2 hours, but then you'll have 300 x ultima magic. Junction that to attack, and they'll be doing ~2000 damage despite only being level 13-20 :-) Secondly, using Zell will override the enc-none ability, so don't bring him, then enc-none will be in operation. So you can go straight to the Ultima boss without doing up 20-odd levels on trash mobs in the area.

The battle speed determines how fast the ATB bar fill up for everyone. (that's aside from speed, a stat that determines the speed for a character). The delay you're talking about is there because any other characters need to finish their action before the next one starts. It's in a lot of RPGs.

@Azshmo I'll admit maybe bug was probably not a good choice of a word, but I'm pretty sure the developers weren't expecting the limits to be so easy to access. Otherwise stuff such as Aura that increases limit's chances to appear is pretty much pointless. They probably were aiming to do it like FF6, where it was pretty much a powerful move when attacking in near-death status, but only being a random chance.

@KojiroArma but aura still effects how good the limit break will be, so it is still very useful. The developers cant have intended it to be like FFVI, because they specifically designed the game so that you could access your limit break any time you were at low HP. I'm not saying it's a balanced design, but it is definitely just as the developers intended it.

This fight is such a wonderful allusion to FFVII. Not only the sword, which SHOULD become more blue the lower Ultima's health bar is, but also the resonating stones that look like materia and the fact that Ultima is found underground (in FFVII Ultima Weapon could be interpreted as having buried itself underground). But I like it even more that there is no certain canonical connection between the two games.

This battle is a little bit of a let down with the difficulty. Meltdown + Renzokuken (and if you have Irvine doing his Limit Break too) makes for a relatively quick battle. I had Squall with 100 Speed + Auto-Haste which also made it easier.

Rinoa is actually the strongest character in game if you know how to junction her properly and use her limit break (Angel Wing) correctly.

I was always dumb with this config menus. But just switching to wait mode should allow you to win without lowering battle speed. I think that he's possible at level 100 even in active mode but you must arrange magic and items. Nice work.

I usually just go out and do a segment of the story, or another side quest. After that, when I go back, the wine is there... At Wikia, they say you should have Zell with you, so maybe he's some kind of a factor...

i doubt that's the only thing. Don't forget that ultima weapon is also at level 100, meaning lots of his stats are either maxed or extremely high. Even if the player did junction high level magic to str, it wouldn't be much of a difference with ultima's defense. besides high level magic could be junctioned somewhere else for better effects than just str or mag. and i hope you DO know why gravija does so much damage......

@BlaakeOdd4 to use a GF removes the ability to get more hp on Ultima and other enemies due to wait times, and if you get attacked while calling it, that gf can get eliminated thereby likely causing your junctioning to go out the window

Tip 1: Get Lion Heart upgrade before you go to the Deep Sea Research Centre. Tip 2: Put Initiative and Auto-Haste on Squall, Junction your best magic to his LUK and use LUK+60%, then let Squall Aura himself as soon as the battle starts, then 2 Lion Hearts later Ultima Weapon is finished. Tip 3: Don't forget to draw Eden before you finish him off!

I recently manage to Ultima Weapon easily because Squall was at lv. 40 and my characters had high stats. I used to have a hard time defeating it. If you know the hidden save in the area and evading scripted encounters when you didn't need Zell operating the machine.

i made sure i learned how to do lionheart properly and wasted time trying to put firaga on squals weapon so all hits are 9999. that was rad. 2x lionheart is all it took to take ultimate weapon out, omega weapon took 8x.

15 times. With meltdown, Squall could do (in theroy, cause I've never seen it done) 15 x 9999= 149,985. And Ultima only has 160k. So a full lionheart with 9999, would do more then 3/4ths of Ultima's health.

i prefer using zell (xell in german) and irvine .. xells battle limit -if u get 13secs- is stronger then squalls ultimate limit (herzensbrecher in ger) .. and irvines mg-shot rox as hell .. btw my psx always slowed down on earthquake .. seems like you played NTSC-version!??! or on emulator?!?!?

ok i have a question. How in the world did you get the characters to be so strong? Mine don't have an hp above 2000 and i am at disc 3 allready. Also...i always use my GF in battles. They do way more damage than any other attacks do. Why don't you use GF?

I did this fight yesterday.I had squall,rinoa and irvine.Before the fight I ended up getting 5 phoenix pinions(which hit UW for over 9000 damage each time) from refining items and I had one char have recover another have magic to use full-life and another to have revive.I was damn lucky during my fight though.Rinoa's limit was invincible moon three times in a row.The first time using it squall was dead then I revived him and she used it again.Fast shot was a life saver.Only used renzokuken twice

you dont have to lower the battle speed, just max out ur speed and junction auto-haste, it doesnt take much and its much quicker than getting to lvl 100 imo

I took it down quite easily without spending Aura or Meltdown just with Zell attacking and the the other 2 on standby for recovery or drawing. Just start by spending 1 Triple on a character and then cast 3 Protections with him to all your characters. Also useful are the Auto-Haste(for the "healers") and the Recover and Revive abilities (you can get those without LVup at Cactus Island: 20AP for every killed Cactus). and then you can draw Ultimas from it... LIKE HELL >:)

I pretty much try to end this fight as soon as I can. Draw Eden and than used a Lion Heart to end it if it comes up. It should come up sooner or later as Squall does it pretty often. No drawing spells lol.
