Final Fantasy VIII - Omega Weapon (Part 1)

Note: This is not a challenge fight, it is a display fight.
Part 2: • Final Fantasy VIII - O...
Finally, it is time for the optional super boss of Final Fantasy VIII. This is the kind of fight where you can walk in at LV100, have max stats, ultimate weapons, best magic, and end up dead on Omega's first move. Yea, you need to learn his fighting style before you can kill him. He follows a strict pattern with the occasionally random chance of a physical attack. If you're not prepared for every single move, he'll destroy you. But his weakness is that he has a fixed pattern. So use it to your advantage.
Anyway, I tried to get this under 10 minutes. There's no way to do it unless I get like 2-3 Lion Hearts in a row, or cheap out. Speaking of cheaping out, I purposely didn't use cheap tactics. No Heros or Holy Wars (they make you temp invincible). No Defend either. I know I say this is a display fight, but I want to have some dignity for it. If I cheap out, I'll get idiots commenting about it. Also, this fight came out pretty good. Gilgamesh shows up, which has never actually happened to me during this fight before.
Small FAQ
Okay, so here's a small explanation of the fight. First off, Omega Weapon has approx 1 million HP, so you're in for a long fight. It's best to choose party members whose Limits do the most damage. Squall, Irvine, and Zell are great choices. I replaced Zell with Quistis though, as Quistis is my backup person who supports the others. Squall and Irvine deal their damage with Limits. Don't even think about doing this without Limits, you'll be here for an hour. Anyway, here is a list of all his moves in the order he uses them:
1. LV5 Death - Kills anyone whose level is a multiple of 5
2. Meteor - Forbidden magic, fair damage
3. Megido Flame - Does 9998 damage to everyone no matter what
4. Gravija - 3/4 damage of current HP to everyone
5. Terra Break - multi-hits everyone for massive damage, 4000 a hit (2000 with Protect)
6. Ultima - Forbidden magic, big damage
7. Light Pillar - 9999 damage to one person
8. Repeat from 2.
That's his layout. He has a chance of doing a physical attack randomly in between them, so be prepared. LV5 Death can be blocked by junctioning 100 Deaths to everyones Status Defense. If you don't, you'll get a game over real fast if you're LV100. Meteor is somewhat harmless, at least at this point in the game. However, make sure everyone is at 9999 HP after that or they'll end up dead. Megido Flame does 9998 damage no matter what. It does NOT reduce HP to 1, if you don't have 9999 HP, you're dead. If you're doing a low level game, Full-Life to HP and HP+x% abilities will get you to 9999HP.
Don't heal after Megido Flame (unless you're afraid of dying from a physical attack), Gravija comes after and can't kill you. Use this opportunity to unleash Limits that won't require Aura spell. However, toss yourself a Megalixer as soon as Gravija comes around. If you don't have a Megalixer, have everyone toss themself an Elixer. If you don't have that, cast Triple on someone else before hand and use it to cast Curaga on everyone. Why? Terra Break is very dangerous. The cheap way is to use a Holy War, which is temp invincibility. Or you can use Defend, which means you receive 0 damage for that character. Defend is less cheap, but still pretty cheap in my book. The brave way of doing it is to cast Protect on everyone and pray you survive. Protect does halve the damage. I'm pretty sure Terra Break ignores your Vitality stat too, so if I'm right it'll always hit for 4000ish a hit (2000 with Protect).
Afterwards, Full-Life the people who fell, if any, and heal to a safe amount of HP (3000+). Ultima can do big damage depending on your Spirit stat. But if you're 3000+ HP you should be fine. After that, keep unleashing Limits as normal, heal if needed. Revive whoever gets killed by Light Pillar. After Meteor comes around again, prepare for the attacks like above. If you have Zell and Irvine and Squall in your party, you can kill Omega before he even uses Terra Break the first time. For obvious reasons I didn't do that. Oh, and just like for Ultima Weapon, lower the battle speed, or you'll probably die from his speed. He's not as fast as Ultima, but still pretty fast.

This brings back those great memories I had when I beat Omega as well. What a marathon this battle was and patience was the key to victory. It seemed like it took hours to finally vanquish this beast but as the band Crowbar so famously proclaimed "Oh, what a feeling."

I've played this game through a million times. It's probably my favorite game. I barely ever bother with this guy though. Your method of doing this is very cautious, I like it. I might use this as a guide next time I fight him. I think (well obviously squall) Squall and Irvine are good choices for this. Their limits do a great deal of damage, especially Squall's. Personally I never liked Zell's much. I would have used Selphie Instead of Quistis for her limit though, personally. :D Great Job

As KoploperMau said, normally, curage does restores 4000 hp, but after having the best magic junctioned to your characters stats, and the stats are through the roof, that character's magical abilities increase.

@swatside you have to use both parties. You ring the bell on the east side of the castle with one group then engage the fight with the other group. You cant miss him he's that shadow before running up the stairs.

IMO using a combination of Protect and Defend is the legit way of beating Omega Weapon. Anyone can throw invuln items all over the place and beat something but using proper tactical abilities and recognising the fact that Terra Break is physical is a worthy victory in my book. Besides, seeing an attack that usually does roughly 16000 damage to all characters pop up with a lovely set of 0s is poetry to the eyes.

You mean Terra Break? The good thing about that attack is that it's a physical attack so you can nullify its damage totally with Defend command. You just gotta know when Omega is going to use it which is right after Gravija or a physical attack following Gravija.

yea, i was mistaken. but as i said, it's better to weave in a regular attack while waiting for Renzokuken to come around than have Irvine stand there doing nothing.

you'll notice that when their ATB gauges are offset, he does exactly that. but when you're waiting for Squall's to come around, you dont want one character just sitting there not attacking. you're wasting time and turns that way. and he clearly didnt have any Normal Ammo.

You can also buy a Power Wrist from the Esthar Pet Shop... It will refine into 10 aura stones, and refine them into auras.

Faced him yesterday for the first time and beated him on second try. A few comments: -You seemed to be very lucky, because for five minutes Omega attacked you with physical hits only. When I fought him, he usually made one (sometimes not even that) physical hit between his major attacks. -I used Defend against Terra Break. -What's your battle speed? I fought him for 20 minutes, not much more than you, but he went through his entire menu of attacks a million times in that time.

@Kradle888 look at Irvine status, he`s 109 spd and uses autohaste. An entire party with that speed makes him look that slow, believe me I do that too and it feels so good XD. With those stats he doesn`t even need a healer because Omega won`t cast megido flame or terra break that sooner.

I attempted this fight about a million times, and couldn't beat it. Once I somehow got 'The End' for Selphie's limit and I couldn't believe it worked on a boss fight especially this one. That's the only reason I managed to beat it.

@djzoneboro I think you're confusing 'defend' with 'mighty guard'. Use Cactaur and Brothers' 'defend' command, and terra break does 0 damage.

Using squall and Zell it is actually possible to beat omega without taking any damage whatsoever. You've gotta use defend and get a little lucky but it can be done without using holy wars or items in general.

Final Fantasy 7 and 8 are the only Final Fantasy's I don't change any names, the name Squall fits him so perfectly and Cloud fits his name so perfect. No big deal though, can name them anything he wants to name them, it's his game

Ok so i missed that he didn't have any normal ammo which is surprising as it can be refined from so many things but any ammo really would have gotten several hits off and done more than a single basic attack. I just find it wasteful that he would use aura but not go for a limit break.

Im agree with you, it doesnt stop of making those physical attacks!! But what l hate most... its when he attacks with a lot of stars comming from his chest, each attack makes a damage above of 4000 hp and he repeats the stars about 4 or 5 times if I remember correctly. If a character receives above of 2 attacks you are dead.

Curaga doesn't heal your full HP! Standard it does around 3000, 4000 if you're lucky.

Except he had Irvine cast aura on himself and then proceed to use basic attacks instead of getting an easy limit break. Irvine was hitting 9999 with meltdown and normal attacks, normal ammo would have cranked out 40,000-100,000 damage depending on the timer length, and he continues to have Irvine use normal attacks for a little while.

Oh man I love this game, it seriously deserves another title in the FF series! LOL @ the scan "it is a bad luck to run into this monster" haha no shit! I played finished this game like 5 yrs ago, and is it just me or did the boss' total health variate depending on your level? I never really figured this out, cause once i beat the game at around lvl 50 and Artemisia took like half an hour but my ending froze XD Then I levelled up to 90+ next time and artemisia took me around 1hr 30mins lol!

@suedescentedsin Well nothing was modded, and since I show all my stats and equipment in at the end of Part 2, it can be EASILY replicated by anyone who actually wishes to try it out instead of throwing out baseless accusations because they think the fight is different than what it is. The only thing that comes to mind is that you and whoever else thinks this isn't a legit video does not understand the game well enough to know all the tricks.

I don't understand. When I cast mighty guard on all the characters(who are 9999 hp) terra break still kills them all straight away. Why is this? terra break is the only move which kills me, everything else he uses I have can manage.

Lv. 45 with Squall, Irvine, and Rinoa. Rinoa casts triple on self, then Squall casts meltdown. Irvine does nothing for now. Rinoa casts haste on everyone, and on next turn casts aura. Omega Weapon just used Medigo Flame. Use Renzokuken, Fast Ammo (Normal Ammo once Fast Ammo is gone), and use Angelo's Wishing Star. Omega Weapon is dead before Gravija ;)

Xenotactic, Meltdown (i think), makes the enemy's Vitality stat 0. I'm pretty sure the defense junction made Omega Weapon do such little damage.

my formula for omega: -i used Squall, Zell n Rinoa -win all the cards -> Card Mod all -100 Ultima, Triple, Full-Life... (advanced magic) each character for Auto-Junction -some tens Aura, Haste -Battle: triple->Aura and Haste, Meltdown->Holy War->LBreaks or Eden -used My Final Heaven with Zell, any LB of Squall, Rinoa for healing, GFing and Angelo Combine's Shooting Star (high Luck can make it) That took 5mins to finish (I was at level 75-90). I killed it 6 times.

easiest way: equip 100Death on st-atk, go to eshtar, out of the airport turn right (bottom screen), you'll pass a save point, next screen turn up at the intersection. you'll see a little stairs, take it and there is a man. Talk to him and he'll transform into an elnoyle. With death equipped it can die in 1 strike, and give ~1k xp!!! Go to the right, screen change, go back to the left and he'll be there again.

@shadowleader358 100 is idd multiple with 5, tested it to fight him multiple times in row, and he always ended up getting the first trun a using the lv5 death, and all 3 of my 100lv chars end up dead.

I think Omega Weapon is susceptible to slow, because I use doomtrain instead of meltdown, and whenever I do, he hardly ever attacks me. I've managed to kill him off with him only casting LV5 Death in the entire battle.

There are two forms for play it: 1: Download an ISO image and burn it on a blank cd. 2: Download an ISO image and play it on your pc; downloading a emulator, the best its ePSXe.

Well the limit for a KZbin vid is 10 minutes so if a battle takes something like 15 minutes you would need to split it into 2 different sections so there are 2 vids a part 1 and a part 2. This vid is a perfect example as it is split into 2 parts.

i had this ganme b4 a long time ago..now i downloaded it from the ps3... the defend ability reduces damage, not invincible til next command... im not sure if its the new version or the regular version...but im pretty sure the regular version is the game where the defend ability is invincible til next command

I had to break the bad news to you, but Elemental Defense Junction doesn't help you at all in this fight really. It has NOTHING to do with his psyhical attack, not to mention he has OTHER attack that do way more than "a mere 100".

I my favorite lvling spot ^^ got all my characters to lvl 100 on disk 2! go to the Windhill and to the right there's mountains, stay along the mountains and fight lefty,righty and head, and you'll lvl up every round, but becareful because they can get quite tough as you lvl up higher. Unless if someone knows of a better place.

Just put Squall with the lowest HP possible. Preferably with 1 HP. And every time you do Renzokuken you will get almost every time a finish blow with Lion Heart. Forget Aura on him, i used to do that myself but its very inefficient.

I played this in elementary school, and I managed to beat Omega on a fluke. I think my group was Squall, Quistis, and Selphie; and then Omega used some attack that killed Squall and Quistis, and left Selphie in the triple digits. I pulled up her limit break to see if I could regroup with a Full-cure, and magically, The End rolled and I used it, thinking that afterward he would finish Selphie off and it would be game over. No cigar. The End ended up working and Omega died. Drunk stumble victory.

Eh Defend isn't cheaping out as it only stops physical attacks and is the only thing that is going to keep you alive during a Terra break if your vitality isn't 255 along with having protect on perma. holy wars / hero drinks. totally cheaping out. nice fight though.

Final Fantasy XII is fuckin' underrated. I got the balls to say it. FFX didn't have any space to explore no fuckin' hard bosses to fight after you beat the game or nuthin and FFXII has a huge world to explore with all kinds of stuff to do and some insanely tough bosses like VII VIII and IX had. X does have a more interesting story than XII but nothing more.
