If you find this fascinating check out "pentakill" a metal band formed from members of Riot games audio and music team based on characters in League of Legends. Even as a non league players it's pretty neat. The band members are represented by metal versions of the games characters and were given "skins" in the game to play as the band members.

The Prelude, the Victory Fanfare, One Winged Angel, VII’s Battle music are all instantly more recognizable to people who don’t play FF religiously than To Zanarkand. That’s not a knock on To Zanarkand but we have to remember to talk about things with a little bit of reality instead of pumping up our favorites to no end.

This was the first mainline game with multiple composers. Noubu was still the main composer but had assistance with Masashi Hamauzu (the heavy piano influece that wrote the songs for FF13) and Juyna Nakano. FFX has a great soundtrack, known (in my head atleast) for its softer songs. That's probably why it doesn't get requested as much, despite it being so good.

I think I can safely say that FF fans were ALSO not expecting this! You hear it very very early game at first, but not the entire track. It's actually played again later as the "final boss" theme. I put quotations around that because the true final boss, as cool as it is, and as amazing as it's vgm is, it's basically just a playable cutscene you can't lose. I love this theme, and one of my friends also adores this theme and who it's associated with! Super glad somebody recommended this and I'm glad to see you enjoyed it while listening haha

The best part is that this song comes completely out of the left field in the game, too. The intro starts with a somber, slow piano piece, like you said you were expecting. Then you get something more modern, but still mild and calm, then you get another slow, calm theme, then about a minute with no BGM at all, and then the game hits you with this. And it is GLORIOUS. I normally don't listen to music of this kind, but this one is just special.

Otherworld is sort of the OG Final Fantasy track that kicked off the series getting absolutely nutty with trying other musical genre's and styles. Every other track on the OST tries to have some degree of cohesive style or compliment each-other, but this track is truly alien amongst the rest of score. This track actually pretty much bookends the game, first playing when Tidus's life is suddenly turned upside-down, and later as the battle theme for boss rush at the end of the game.

Well this was a long time coming. EDIT; The first time I heard this song, I was playing a demo for a game in a series I'd heard of, but knew absolutely nothing about, in a genre of games I'd never even heard of. My literal first introduction to anything rpg or Final Fantasy related was *that* opening cutscene, which was also the most amazing cinematic I'd ever seen in a game, accompanied by this song. As someone who also had no interest in music at that time, to say I was blown away by that first introduction is an understatement. After I was finished with the demo, I immediately went back and played it again about 10 times over, then went out and got the full game the moment it released. That opening cutscene and this song, literally got me into rpg's and Final Fantasy, and though it would take a few more years, eventually, metal and rock music too (Otherworld has been a staple of my favorite playlist since the first time I bought an ipod years ago). It helps that FFX is by far, my absolute favorite game ever, and its story is my favorite of ANY media.

FFX was my first FF game and Otherworld was wonderfully jarring the first time around. 13 year old me thought it was going to be sort-of woven throughout the game (like for major bosses) but no! You hear part of it at the start of the game and then it completely disappears until the end. I'm actually doing a new playthrough of this game (don't ask how many times I've played through this game, because I've lost count) and even though I know what's coming, I always cry at the end. So now I'm very tempted to request one of my favorite pieces for my March request.

I just said the other day "We need to have Jesse Listen to Otherworld" on another video. I don't have a ton of good suggestions other than the final battle with Seymour, which is called "Fight with Seymour." Also I would strongly recommend "To Zanarkand." The Juxtaposition between this and to Zanarkand will blow you away as "To Zanarkand" is a beautiful piece on the Piano. I'll save further commentary for when you listen to "To Zanarkand." I will say... It might have helped Jesse if you watched one of the 2 instances this plays XD The opening Blitzball Cutscene OR the battle with Braska's Final Aeon. This song has a lot more emotion to it that you might first think as it's associated with the end of a world and a father's conflicted efforts to make his son a better man than he. Just to let you know too, in a friendly way, X is Ten. And this game came out in about... 2001. So your guess on the music era is spot on.

I absolutely adore this song. It's so goofy and over the top, but it works so well thematically. You first here it as this fantasy sports player, getting ready for their next match against a rival team. The whole scene is there to be like the character getting pumped up, listening to this dumbass rock, thinking back on what brought them there. Specifically, they think about how their father was also a major "blitzball" star, and then just up and disappeared out of their life one day. Once the match actually starts, a massive disaster occurs, this giant monster tearing through the city and destroying everything in its path. You barely survive, being sucked up into the creature and transported to another world. After dozens upon dozens of hours venturing through this world, you find out your father also disappeared in a similar way, following the same path you followed in an attempt to destroy the monster. You find out he prevented the monster from returning, but only temporarily, by becoming its avatar. So in your final attempt to destroy the monster for good and stop the cycle, you fight your father, now twisted and malformed. And this track plays again for the boss fight. It's such a cheesy song, but the way it comes full circle after dozens of hours of beautiful orchestral tracks is such an amazing moment. It's like the character is throwing everything to the side, remembering where he came from, remembering how he's grown, and finally putting the past to rest. All with a dumbass buttrock track blaring in the background.

One of the things you have to keep in mind when listening to final fantasy music as a Abbott player of final fantasy for 20+ years now my self. Is that the music is always composed around an event within the game or the story. If you watch the actual clip from final fantasy 10 that has this music playing it makes way more sense. Even more so if you understand the events that are occurring then the lyrics make sense, In a nutshell understanding the lore of what's happening.

Yeah, this is still an Uematsu composition, as is the majority of the game's soundtrack, although it is the first Final Fantasy title where he wasn't the sole composer. He wrote about 60-70% of the music for FFX. It's after X that he took time off Final Fantasy. This particular song has a very specific place in the game and it's only played twice throughout, the rest of the soundtrack is quite unlike this and more in line with the other FF games as far as the music goes.

9 was the last contractual game Nobuo did with SQEX actually. He's done work on the series after that obviously, but no longer as a direct employee , he went freelance has remained since. He's still up there as one of the best, but I would contend that Mizuta and Soken rival him now for their works on 11 and 14 respectively EDIT: The lyrics actually do make perfect sense, both within the opening FMV and the greater context of the plot. IIRC, Nobuo at the time was inspired by Limp Bizkit and wanted to try something similar for X's main theme , and so we got Otherworld.

When you see the blitzball tournament intro with Sin appearing the music make sense!

It kind of is boss music. The first time you hear it in-game is right at the beginning when Sin (main antagonist) destroys a massive city and sends you to... another world. I highly recommend looking up "Sin attacks Zanarkand" and watching the cutscene.

It makes more sense during the scene its playing with. Opening with Blitzball which is a hype scene and why so many ppl loved Blitzball in the first game then seeing Auron not knowing who he is and the transition to a new world.

I was in a Singapore airport. We had a layover and i found some PS2 set-ups. It had been a while since I'd played a FF game as 8 and 9 hadn't really clicked with me (though i enjoyed 9 more). Fired it up and was greeted with Otherworld. I was once again hooked on Final Fantasy.

Being greeted by Otherworld is literally how I got into rpg's as a whole. I had a ps2 demo disc that just straight up threw you into the opening cutscene, without even the brief build up beforehand you get in the full game. Had no idea what I was about to play, as I only barely had heard of Final Fantasy and had never played an rpg of any kind before. The most metal way to get introduced to an entire genre. FFX has been my favorite game ever since.

Great vid, watch this song over the intro cutscene. I did when I was 10 and it has burned into memory. Also it blends so perfectly with the game & story

Back in the early days of google, I tried to look information on this song and band, and the information I found was that when the song hit big after release, the band that played it was nowhere to be found, nor ever found again. You never know if it's true, but I always though it was an awesome legend that this band does such a unique FF tune, then disappears forever.

Never played a mainline FF game, but I played the crap out of Dissidia on the PSP, and I found I loved this track from it being Jecht's battle theme when you fight him in the story. Had about the same reaction you did when it started playing.

This is qui vivra vera! I hope you have a chance to play the game or at least watch the opening FMV. It really makes more sense when you can see the actual song and what's happening in it. The song does fit the "world" it's played in. And it's an amazing cs for what was 2000 on a ps2!

One of the most intersting themes from this games is the Seymour- final boss battle theme (aka Omnis Boss theme I think). It is so crazy.. I still love it ..over 20 years after the game came out .. Edit: nvm, I just noticed that you checked it out already. Good man :)

While it was played in the intro of the game, it is also the end game boss fight music. It was basically the first real metal/thrash track in a Final Fantasy title at the time. I used to love replaying the end boss over and over just to hear the track.

Thank you for your video. This track is unique for FFX, it plays during the opening event that starts the game but that's about the only time FFX has a metal heavy song. The overall mood of the game is different and most of the music tailored towards that specific mood. Minus battle themes and character themes

This was the first Final Fantasy of the PS2, where they finally fully moved to audio recordings lol. Moving from 9 to 10 was kinda crazy in a few ways… There was voice acting, detailed facial animations outside of the completely CG cutscenes… First one with fully 3D environments too… At least in the mainline games… I forget when Crystal Chronicles came out and how many of those features it had… I need to try that game again… I’m not sure this is totally outside of the norm for Final Fantasy… While there wasn’t anything specifically along these lines, there were the odd similar tracks that got kinda heavy or had similar melodic themes or whatever… I’m not too surprised that it’s the same composer, even if it’s a bit of a surprise… But yeah, there is a fair amount of variety in Final Fantasy soundtracks anyway… As some have already said, this song kicks the game off in the futuristic city of Zanarkand, where the hero is getting ready to start a game of a crazy sport that’s kinda like handball, but inside a giant floating ball of water… Then a giant monster called Sin appears… Soon he’s transported to a new world… Or is it a new world? Could it be the past? The future? A parallel dimension? Or maybe it’s all a dream? Either way, the song comes back at the tail end of the game, as a boss theme… So good >_

I think you would enjoy the first FmV scene that this takes place it. Homeboy world just gets wrecked, destroyed and then is placed "1000 years into the future." So, this metal song is just banging as his world crumbles.

Been watching these for quite a few months now but never really commented, but I had to finally give in and throw out a suggestion: If you ever get the chance, I'd highly recommend giving two tracks from "The Last Remnant" a listen. Specifically, The Gates of Hell, or Unrelenting Advance.
