Final Fantasy XI on Steam Deck

A brief example of FFXI running on the Steam Deck on Windows 10 Pro with GloSC to allow for the XInput configuration within Final Fantasy XI Config's Gamepad Settings. Everything working with a vanilla installation, nothing else modified.
Footage was captured by running HDMI from a Dell USB-C Dock (WD19TB) through to an AverMedia LiveGamer 4k (GC573). I did not run a 3.5mm to my Capture Card nor enable the audio passthrough on the USB-C dock, thus the lack of audio.

I have come across a problem when following the steps for the initial install/set up show on various websites. I hope someone can help. I really appreciate it. After updating playonline, then starting it to up to enter my account info (so i can further proceed to the ffxi update)... I am not able to use any controls on the steam deck except for select and back/exit. I'm not able to enter my playonline account information, because I can't bring up the keyboard for both steam deck or playonline. I don't have an external keyboard. I have set the config controls for controller as instructed in the directions. Is there a button set up for the controller config that allows you to use the steam deck as the controller? Even if we're to somehow bypass by buying an external keyboard, I want to play this handheld with steam decks controller. Thanks for any help!

You can do this on the Odin if you get windows 11 on it. But you'd have to take android off...

I just got the OneXPlayer Mini with the 5800U, unfortunately getting Windower to work has been a bust. Would love to get the game running at 60 fps instead of 30. So far game runs butter smooth on Win 11, tempted to try Linux on it.

How did you get the handheld buttons recognized in Gamepad settings?

Checkout GloSC, you can launch a GloSC setup and it will recognize an Xbox Controller (in windows). Phawx has a good tutorial here, kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5DPd6CqiLh4pLM

correct; windower would work if you wanted to use it though as it's just running on Windows in this example and on the other on this channel.

Can you type in this game with the deck?

requires a USB or Bluetooth keyboard at the moment. I haven't found a solution to get the Steam keyboard to work in-game yet.

The Steam version of FFXI works absolutely fine using built in controls and on screen keyboard in SteamOS. IDK about other version.

You can run this game with higher resolution you know.

yup! this was captured footage direct from the steamdeck, though, at 1280x800 native to show a vanilla installation.
