Isn’t it crazy, even graha was the same in shadowbringers. He was just a side character in ARR alliance raid sidequest lol. But he was very important in shadowbringers expansion.

I have to say that I absolutely love the character arc for Estinien. In ARR, he's so bent on revenge that he is willing to do anything to gain power, even if it means being influenced by Nidhogg. He gives in to the rage and tries to attack his own mentor, only to be stopped by the WoL. He is able to help with defending Ishgard, but says he wants to kill Iceheart for her role in the attacks. In Heavensward we work with Estinien to try to stop Nidhogg. He's open to the idea of working with Iceheart/Ysayle (if highly critical of it) and follows us on our journey to meet with Hraesvelgr, slowly warming up to both Alphinaud and Ysayle. After discovering the truth about why Nidhogg wants to destroy Ishgard, his attitude changes and (while recognizing that Nidhogg can only be stopped by being killed) he at least doesn't want to kill every dragon he sees. He gets possessed by Nidhogg, rescued by us and Alphinaud, and then decides to step back from being the Azure Dragoon. Being possessed by Nidhogg made him realize how similar the two of them were and ended up having a significant effect on him. If you do "The Paths We Walk" questline after finishing all of Heavensward, you actually discover some of what happened to Estinien after he quietly left Ishgard. In the ending stuff for Heavensward, you see a bit where Estinien is leaving with a bouquet of flowers. It turns out that he went to Azys Lla and left the flowers near the spot where Ysayle had sacrificed herself to protect everyone from the Garlean battleship. He also takes some flowers and lays them down in honor of Ratatoskr, the dragon that was betrayed by the first Thordan and his 12 knight. Hraesvelgr sees him, and as a way of both thanking Estinien and reminding him that he is still needed as a Dragoon, gives him a set of armor originally blessed by Ratatoskr. Estinien then names the armor "Iceheart" in honor of Ysayle. He's shown in Stormblood and Shadowbringers to be tracking down various dragons, although in the cases in which we run into him it turns out that his main goal is to reason with them if at all possible. And when helping us cure Tiamat, it actually seems like he has decided to try to help out as Nidhogg might have wanted to before being consumed by revenge. Overall, it's a very good character that takes advantage of the overall "cool" appearance/playstyle of Dragoons to enhance the arc he goes through. Yes, it's very cool to see someone in awesome-looking armor, but it gets so much better when you know that Estinien started off hating all dragons. But now he's gotten to the point where he has suffered and matured enough to work hand-in-hand with members of the First Brood, and as such has gained the full potential of what a Dragoon can be.

Another thing I realized replaying a realm reborn Npcs tell you they forgot how the wol looks like, they can only remember a shadow walking against a blinding light... So maybe they didn't forget but remember our soul more than our face? I get it's a way to have the wol be whoever but it's still cool in symbolism terms to pick it back up for the trailer :D

The reason I feel this is because of how they are summing up a huge story arc that has been around forever, and combining all the elements of every expansion into the theme was just incredible and made me quite emotional. Considering that Thavnair is based off India, and Vritra is an Hindu Dragon(-like being), he likely was hidden or sleeping in Thavnair all along. Meanwhile, Azdaja is a slavic dragon, which means they might be related to a Hrothgar nation or place, since Hrothgar have canonical slavic naming conventions.

I just realized something about this trailer...we progress from unknown steps into a new world (either from the 1.0 journey or every 2.0-onward player), and progressively go into each expansion in order. The twins for ARR, Estinien for Heavensward, Zenos for Stormblood, our Scions fresh from The First in their Shadowbringers outfits. All the leifmotifs. All the settings. All the build-up. An even a subtle Cecil nod with the WoL going from ending the Shadowbringers trailer as Dark Knight to being a Paladin on the fucking moon to cement "you FF4 fans are about to get some FOOD." This feels like everything is going to end. *AND YET IT'S ONLY AN THAT'S ENDING.*

@@keaton3258 Yeah Yoshi-P has been the producer for FFXIV since the ARR reboot, he took over the team after 1.0 crashed and burned and lead them to release patches for 1.0 while simultaneously making 2.0 in the background. Because of how well Heavensward, Stormblood and Shadowbringers all did with him still serving as producer he was made producer of the upcoming FFXVI as well, with the same writing staff that worked on Heavensward working on 16 now. Endwalker will have the same lead writer as Shadowbringers, who previously wrote the Dark Knight job storyline, Crystal Tower raid, Azim Steppe and Ninja job quests.

The scene in the Churning mists is given me all sorts of hope that Midgardsormr's surviving spawn is about to go full Dragonsong War against the apocalypse. EDIT: Upon closer inspection it isn't the Chruning Mists, but looks like Thavnair due to the statues and palm trees. This is the finale of a story that has been building up since the first disk (the first part flopped pretty badly) with the "remake" and the second expansion, the story continued to be told. From this expansion, all the way to the first ffxiv portion of the game, many have been through 5 chapters of this portion of the story that hasn't ended just yet (but based on what has been said about the development, this 6th expansion will be the ending of this arc that has been with many of us since 1.0) when Jesse and JP said that this really does feel like the climax of the story arc (they have plans for a new story arc come 7.0) they really mean that it is the climax of this story arc. Every single expansion and much of the story, since FFXIV started has been building up to this. All the expansions have had their own main stories related to them, but their overarching story has been leading up to this moment. So if one has been following along the storyline of this game, many big things are culminating. Think of an episode of a movie or t.v. show you have been waiting for, magnify that by 10 or more, that's how big it feels for a few of us.

In all my years of playing A Realm Reborn I believe that this expansions trailer is the best I have ever seen. The music is great. I really enjoyed Shadowbringers due to the fighting and showing off the armor for the dark knight. This trailer outdone that with the scene of when the dragoon appeared. I can't wait to play the early access tomorrow.

I remember how angry with myself I was about all the wasted time trying to figure out what weapon he has in the teaser trailer. In the teaser you could see him sitting on that throne and you could see a part of the weapon which looked exactly like a weapon from FF9+11 (and some more) There was also a cutscene in game which said the weapon is in the room (a room littered with maybe 100 weapon models from the game, but it wasnt there and I wasted like 2 hrs analyzing that quest cutscene). And then when this cinematic came out they simply swapped the weapon.. they altered the footage.. so all my guesses were for naught.

Yeah, the vast majority of them have been established in the prior expansions and current content. They've had quite a ride. The problem with FFXIV is it starts off shaky and mediocre, but if you're "kinda" into it in the first several hours, if you stick with it the story soars to amazing heights, and the production values just keep getting better. If you stick with it. That's why all of us FFXIV players talk in goddamn code. It's just...there's so much. And it's overbearing, and it scares away new players. lol.

Regardless, I would recommend taking your time with it, too. There's nothing worse than binging a bunch of the early stuff trying to rush to the newer content. It's so easy to burn out that way.

Yes, since this is a MMO, it receives expansions (like Endwalker) about once every 2 years. However, the story of FFXIV is one long continuous chain. Many of the characters we see in the trailer have been around since the game first released almost 10 years ago.
