I think this being in this soundfont shows how good of a replacement Soken was for Uematsu, this borderline sounds like a song that you COULD have heard in FF7
@YaBoiJeffe9 ай бұрын
Nope. Any ff except 7 or 10. This is basic in comparison, sorry.
@ketthefox9 ай бұрын
To me it was other way around. This composition doesn't work in simple form and it needs those big layers of sound to feel impactful.

@YaBoiJeffe9 ай бұрын
@@gavo7911 hm? The one that voices an uneducated opinion on a subject? This isn't about subjective musical taste either, this person compared two composers work. I am educated in the field, so I shared my opinion and was apologetic for being disagreeable. You ever wonder why 7 and 10 were so successful? The music *, coincidentally, evokes the most emotion because of how is written and arranged. Pretty important when you're looking at Lego characters. Always that one guy, adding nothing to the conversation. Edit: the other games have great stories too, but why aren't they popular?

from what ive noticed (maybe im wrong) soken is more about building up ONE BIG emotional/powerfull momment meanwhile uematso is more about the whole piece maintaining an idea. does that make sense? like, in most soken themes there is always this one big momment that elevates the piece or makes it really hut like in awake, heroes, invincible, Ultima (both ARR and ShB) etc. meanwhile most uematsu themes (even the ones with very clear climax) feel focused in maintaining a specific mood/emotion. and i love both tbh.
@deefour289 ай бұрын
Yeah, I definitely notice what you mean more when it comes to FFXIs Uematsu pieces, most of them have a consistent feeling throughout (rolanberry fields/ Tu’Lia) and a sort of closing bit at the end before they loop whereas a lot of soken’s pieces kind of have that “chorus” that’s really the high point of the songs (Wayward Daughter). I agree with you I love them both. Final fantasy has ALWAYS had banging soundtracks in literally every single game even the spin-offs idk why people argue about soken vs uematsu they’re both some of the best composers in the gaming industry by a country mile
@chaintrust98229 ай бұрын
@@deefour28 I heard someone say once "why does Soken need to slap a Chorus into every single track" but I actually prefer it this way. It all builds up to that one moment and it really catches you off guard. Like in Wayward Daughter, Ascension, and Away, it is brilliantly built up until the chorus hits.

You make it sound like those guys should work on one song together Could be the most legendary thing is history
@Can_O_Crayola8 ай бұрын
I think you can pin that down to the kind of games that Soken and Uematsu are composing for. The games Uematsu did are largely turn-based, meaning that the music more or less needed to have a very even pace. The music has to fit the scene, after all. Soken is composing for things like FF14 and FF16. Fast paced, high octane fights with very specific scripted moments. That's why even his remixes of older tracks are much faster paced and transform into "his style". It's all about the buildup because that's what the players are going for too. We're playing for those limit breaks, phase changes, DPS checks. Turn-based players are fighting to survive, to get off their skills/spells with every turn as the boss ticks closer to wiping them out...hence why the music is more of a march. FF14's From the Heavens in Omega Protocol (Ultimate) is definitive evidence of the style that music composers like Soken and Copeland do. The climaxes of the song were specifically timed to link up to enrage/phase changes. If Uematsu was actively working in the game environments like the ones we currently see, I expect that he may have taken a different route with his compositions.

if anything, this goes far in showing how bad the FF7 soundfont was at the time. It was one of the reasons why people would say that 6s soundtrack was better than 7s - partially because the soundfont was of higher quality than 7s, despite being on an older system. Nobuo Uematsu thought that the sound would take up too much space, and intentionally downgraded the quality. Didnt change the fact that the compositions themselves were fantastic, and have long stood the test of time.
@eqpizza10 ай бұрын
I think it's true that taken individually, ff7's sounds are kinda bad but still they somehow have their own personality and can actually work well together. I dind't really think about it that much while making this, since it's just for fun, but i guess this soundfont does play a part in making 7's soundtrack so memorable despite its choppiness and, by extension, it's cool to hear it in other contexts maybe idk
