It's a common trope for the protagonist to rise above their own self doubts in moments of conflict, but the way they play this out with Joshua is perfect. Jus a shame how quickly his flame grew and then faded out...I would have loved to see more of him in the story honestly. One thing I noticed when the phoenix rose into the sky then to dive at ifrit his eyes eyes were orange which he was not in full control of himself and after diving and pushing ifrit into the earth he fires upon him but when ifrit pushed him into a pillar and about to claw him you can see his eyes are now blue so joshua had gained control, I’ve only played this game once but noticing these small details after learning the lore of the game it’s very interesting to see

Although I don't think it's the last time we see Joshua, we can't deny that the end of the demo was devastating, Clive killed his brother with his own hands (or those of ifrit), most of the characters we met in the demo they died including his father, his own mother is indifferent to what happened and could have betrayed them, and now clive will be used simply as a soldier. how do you want me not to be sad about it? Yeah. For now I think these are ripped out the games files (or probs just recorded in game with all the audio except music muted, now that I think of it). You can tell the levels dip in spots where the dialogue lines come in. So the music files are all balanced for that. When there's an official release it won't be like that.
