FFXII is a narrative experiment pretty much in the same way FFVI was one. the experiment in VI was: can we tell star wars without there being a main character? the experiment in FFXII was: can we tell star wars without there being a persistent main antagonist?

Watching FFXII cutscenes or movies are really enjoyable. It was such an amazing ride. Love how we have protagonist who actually are not the main i-can-do-it-all-better-than-the-adults type of shounen protagonist. Vaan is a realistic protagonist for a teen, and FFXII shows that the people who contributes a lot and leading are the adults in the team as well (instead of a bunch of adults being led by a super-powered teen who came out of nowhere in many animes).

But had they made him ask in a more "normal" way then the question was not that rude or bad. The only women who get mad about being asked their age are women that know their best age is already past them and therefore they are ashamed to reveal their age. If Fran is that old but still looks this young that means she'll live for a lot of years and is probably not even that old in relation to her race.
