The scene between Fran and Jote means so much more watching as an adult. Jote rebuffs Fran because it is her duty as the leader of the tribe, and because she still resents Fran for leaving, but she still loves her sister. When she sees that Fran not only rescues and returns Mjrn home, but that she specifically advises her impressionable younger sister against following her path and leaving Jote alone with no more family, Jote understands that Fran DOES respect the ways of the Viera, and the Green Word. It just isn't her way. But it is the right way for her family. Perhaps Jote tells the truth that the wood misses Fran, perhaps she's only speaking from her own heart. When Fran says that that is a pleasant lie, she's either refusing to accept the woods embrace because she misses it and wants to keep strength, or she's recognizing that Jote is lying. Either way it's the same: Fran's decision to leave has an irreperable wound within her own heart and that of her sisters, but still they love one another, they'll always be family. It's really beautiful.

@@Erk1234567 Yes, well, I just find Vaan annoying on every conceivable level. Every time he opens his mouth I cringe. He's like a bad fan character insert, and tends to ruin whatever cutscene he is in. Sure, Penelope chirps in every so often but the only thing I find offputting about her character is that weird leather wing-set strapped to her back like a fairy cosplayer outfit. Honestly, she should have been the young protagonist if this game needed one at all (minus the wing straps). But of course, we need to appeal to the young boy demographic... *sigh* which is what I was a part of when I first got this game.

​@@fern1009 I mean, there was a time in High School when I thought Vaan to be insufferable, but since my last run of the game, I realized that Vaan actually has a decently paced, well-realized character arc, and now I find his lack of savvy to be... endearing? The Ivalice games are about deception and intrigue, but Vaan fails to play the part because, well, _fuck that,_ and I personally find that hilarious. Not to mention that Vaan's direct, unassuming nature actually helps the party from time to time. Does he stick out like a sore thumb compared to Ashe, Basch and the Sky Pirates? Well, yes, but I don't think this contrast is necessarily a bad thing. If anything, I think it rounds the party out.

Nah the story wraps up the main narrative pretty clearly (restore Dalmascan sovereignty and defeat those who orchestrated its initial downfall). What is apparent though is that Vaan was never meant to be the main character. If anything, the party is more akin to a DnD party where no one player takes the spotlight, they don't really split off that much even and each one has some important role/quest to play in the story. Not saying making the story focus on a singular character wouldn't have been a bad idea. Basch or Ashe as the main character would have made for a very good narrative imo.
