I just smiled as I read some super sarcastic comments here. Some commentators even claimed that they are the best and sound so proud to have been involved into many street fights. I have been practising martial arts for over thirty years, my father is a wushu coach. And we did martial arts mainly for health and for helping other people, not for showing off etc. My father has also learned numerous types of martial arts for almost 60 years, and thanks to that he is still in a very good shape in his 70s. He told me that all types of martial arts are unique, none of them is the best or the worst, it all depends on the practitioner and the situation as well. It is better to learn how to control ourselves. My uncle, who was a soldier of the Special Armed Forces also said that he and all the other soldiers must learn various types of martial arts to pass the tests. So guys, please open your eyes and be humble. Arrogance will lead us to nowehere :-)

I think we all understand point sparring (although I saw many hits without a point there). It’s just that it’s such a lackluster and unrealistic way to do a “martial art”. This doesn’t translate to anything real trying to get one strike in and stopping. I’d prefer if there could be multiple points per round. In this fashion it might as well be playing who can poke who with a stick first with your buddy as a kid. Whoever scores a light chop does not translate to the winner of any real life battle and would not help much with self defense.

Renato Mazzella Sparring is not a representation of real life fight. I repeat. Sparring not a representation of a situation where your life is at risk. You can't just watch a sparring match and automaticly assume that is how they're gonna fight in a self defense situation. That is the purpose we learn self defense for belt grading. You do not assume a certain martial art effectiveness in a "real" fight just based on their sparring alone. Sparring has rules. You break the rules, you lose. With the inclusion of there rules, that's is why we don't see self defense technique in a sparring match. Karate and taekwondo has self defense element like joint locks, eye gouge, knee and elbow strike and other techniques that strike to effective target area like the throat, groin, eyes, solar plexus, knee and others. But because these techniques are dangerous, they are prohibited in tournaments. And the application of these techniques called bunkai for karate or haesul for taekwondo is seen in the kata or poomsae. They don't just train these types of sparring you know. It is completely idiotic and ignorant to judge a certain martial art with their sparring. I'm assuming you havent been long in this martial art because if you have been practicing for a long time you would have known this already and you would not have wrote that comment. Hope this opens up your mind and let you see point style sparring martial art in a new light. :)
@davdooo-k9w6 жыл бұрын
Not really. The true translation of "martial arts" is closer to "martial technique." Therefore, every strike, take-down, etc.. is meant to have real life applications where the moves would immobilize the perpetrator.
