As someone who lived in the Boston area for a long time, i remember taking the Green line many times from Lechmere station but haven't been in the area for a long time. When i finally drove thru the area recently in 2023 & to see the old Lechmere station area just completely gone it really just made me think "wow my childhood & youner years of this awesome experience are just gone" I'm glad in a sense that they finally extended the Green line to Somerville & Medford but I'm just so taken back that one of my favorite stations in all the MBTA is just totally gone. I used to sit outside the old Lechmere station just to watch the trolleys go around the loop with the screeching wheels way before i needed to go in town. Its honestly one of my core childhood memeories, & to never see or hear that again even though i live outside the city now just breaks my heart in a way 💔

Me too man and I completely agree with you, it’s sad. The sounds of the wheels screeching when the green line streetcars went around the tight loop is something I’ll remember and miss always. My childhood just gone in a flash, breaks my heart as well. 💔💔💔💔 3802 departing the station at the end of the video is too emotional for me to see as shortly after the train left, the power and lights were shut off forever. R.I.P July 10, 1922 - May 23, 2020, a great 97 (almost 98) years of trolley service in Boston.

Good to see modern units with real doors. Here in Australia, everything has to appear as modern as possible for the sake of image.

Wish I could’ve been there that night (May 23, 2020) to see the lights and power being turned off forever after 3802 (the last revenue train) went out of the yard. The old Lechmere station was finally demolished in September-December 2022. As of the end of 2022, it’s completely gone, tracks, platforms, station walls, canopies, bus wait area and roof, fences and basically everything, never to be seen again. Now, it’s just a memory. In December 2022, me and my dad drove by the site and we were both in shock to see that the old station was completely gone, just a pile of dirt and rubble where the station used to be with excavators and other construction crew work equipment. It was sad. 😢 A memory I have of Lechmere is riding the green line e branch from government center to the old station when it was still in operation about 12 years ago and watching the trains go around the tight ballon loop, before walking to the other side and taking it back, I miss it so much. 😭😥 Sadly, this was taken in the very early days of the pandemic and all attractions and the city was still closed, with public transit operating at reduced capacity. Students and office employees/workers all over the world were doing school or work from their computers online and staying home since they couldn’t be in person in the actual office or school classroom, as this was during lockdown. Never forget March 15, 2020, the darkest day in history. All public schools and work offices around the world were closed at the time.

That RTS coach at 4:35 must be 0309 which is preserved by the MBTA for non-revenue historic fan trips hosted by the T.

On the upside, the new Lechmere Station will be better as a station (including being built from the ground up for ADA compliance), and will be convenient for people living/working in the high-rise buildings north of the McGrath Highway. On the downside, the location of the new Lechmere Station will be a lot worse for people living and working in East Cambridge (mostly not in high-rise buildings), who will have to cross the McGrath Highway to get to it.
