Final Opinion On Two Great Puukko Knives, Tops Tanimboca And Condor Trivitatta.

Yeah, they are both extremely good knives, just different styles of cutters. I'm very impressed with the steel on that Condor. I really was not nice to these knives , that rhododendron wood is insane. Thanks brother 🙏

@airiksknifereviews9548 These smaller bush like trees make great small cooking firewood. Dogwood, Crepe Myrtle, Mulberry, Sparkleberry, etc. Smokeless, hot coals!

Interesting comparison on the handles! And surprising! But its often so, some handles that you think are not maybe going to be that good, can actually be totally awesome. Happend to me alot.. And it always depends to what are you using the knife for.

My Trivitatta arrives in two days! I'm pretty excited! Great comparison video. Lots of great content. 👍🏻 I for one would like to see how you do your convexing. I use a drywall sander (the hand held job with the rubber foam backing) to do mine. And this video has inspired me to fix my Taminboca puukko. So, well done sir.

Thanks man, Yes I do need to show that someday. I have a ganzo blade that I'm planning on doing this too so maybe I'll film it a bit just to show my hillbilly method 😁 That Tanimboca Puukko is a totally different beast without that v edge . I can't believe so many reviews were so happy with that knife . In my opinion it felt like I purchased a basic blade with a pocket knife Vgrind. If I wasn't able to reprofile that knife it would have been a very disappointing purchase. I probably would have sent it back to be honest , I love that knife now so it's worth the overhaul.

Condor 1095 is great steel. I got the ripper man and it just did a lot of work!

Yeah, the Ripper had no problem with your testing , that thing has a great looking blade and handle. Condor has an awesome menu of blades, so knowing the steel is getting cooked good makes me hungry. 😁

That tanimboca handle gave me a hot spot on my pinky as result of that slight taper at the end. Really bummed me out because I loved that blade shape and edge geometry so much.

@pathrst That's weird because the Trivitatta causes me issues in the same way . Yes, I can definitely see the handle being an issue for some. It would be cool to rehandle the Tanimboca and make it thicker in the back end. I think that would actually fix the issue for most hands. The Tanimboca has become my main belt knife, it's part of my edc . I have thought about rehandleing the knife, maybe some curly birch scales and liners . But since it doesn't bother me, I'm less inclined to do so. Once I reprofiled into a zero degree convex edge it really changed how it feels in hand. The stock grind takes away its true potential making wood work more difficult. Good edge geometry helps with all kinds of issues, especially how hard ya gotta push when notching and power cuts.

What your thoughts are on handle shape , is the exact thing I dislike about most Bushcraft/camp craft knives. Most people do not know how to utilize a knife in all the possible ways. That’s a lot to due with people on KZbin calling feather sticking “Carving”. Even making notches is only the very start of what is truly considered carving. That is where that bird beak will stab you first. Whoever thinks a knife needs that is the same person that carry’s a 5 pound knife vs a 2 pound hatchet. But that’s a whole nother story. Pukko is king in design and abilities. For more advanced carving,(like caricatures and animals) try out the Flex-Cut KN50. It’s one of my favorite crossover knives for going out and carving or making spoons or both. If you want to see some of my Carvings hit me up. I teach it. Great job on your notches and knife handling skills. You’re further ahead of most people I see on KZbin. In the camping scene anyhow. I could give you some handles of true carvers to check out if you wanted to see what carving can actually transpire to. Some truly amazing artists out there.

Thanks, man , Actually, I just met someone at church who has been carving for many years. He has all the good woods and tools and is helping me out . He pointed me towards a local store that carries carving blades. My mind was blown seeing his work. His brick homes looked like something out of a Lord of the Rings Movie. .. Just beautiful stuff.

Nice follow-up review. 👍 I’ve been loving the Trivittata-my favorite Condor small knife design thus far. I still prefer my little NKD Korpi 85, but the Condor will still see some good use. I’ve got a Rob Evans MK1 Tribute in O1 on order. Based on the design and profile, I’m anticipating it will hold a spot as a top contender. We shall see.

That Rob Evans Tribute knife is legit, his work is awesome and he knows how to make a real bushcraft blade. I can't wait to see you do a vid on that one, even if ya just make some relaxing feather sticks 😉

I appreciate the shorter video format. If you say that you’ve gone out and tested the knives, I’m going to take you at your word when you give me your opinions. I don’t have time to sit and watch all the testing footage. In the end, I think most of us just want to know if the knife is good or not.

Thanks for that feed back , I agree , I just need to know how it performs and is it trustworthy. I think the average knife user can tell if a person is legit about the knives. I also purchase everything myself and want folks to not waste their money. I've wasted lots of money, but what really bugs me is seeing multiple reviews on certain knives and never hearing the full truth .... LIKE... The original edge on that Tops Puukko kinda sucks. It's basically a pocket knife edge, not a wood carving blade at all out of box. That said, it can be freaking awesome with a bit of elbow grease. It's worth the effort to reprofile the grind. Great review. Love my Trivitatta. Its awesome. Its getting a liitle harder to find and price has gone up. I looked at the tops while back , dont know why but the aesthetics of the grip prevent me from trying. Bow drill divot and the phillips screws not a fan of. Superfluous. BUT if it came with your convex mod i probably would buy it. Awesome polish and convexing youve done

That's funny and so true..the V edge just sucks on that thing . I did not like the looks that much either , the screws make no sense . They say it's to prevent rust, so why not just use stainless steel or aluminum? The knife is mainly sold to the western market. The marketing over the idea of it being "jungle ready" bolts is silly, esp since it's 1095hc which rust if a cloud is in the sky. 😏 Tops does some weird stuff that just leaves me scratching my head.

Think the Condor seem great. Never been happy with Tops but after this review I think I might like it to. But I do not like screws on a knife handle.

The Tops is the knife I use over the two, but if I hadn't known how to change the grind, I would have been disappointed . I personally use the Tops way more than most of my knives. If you're skilled at reprofiling/sharpening that Tops can be turned I to a special blade. Those screws bugged me at first now I don't notice them. They lose the shine and get a patina look that hides them a bit. Tops make some weird decisions on handles , usually on the bad side of things. Although... I just gave my Brisa Kephart a full convex edge, and I'm in love. ..but boy it took more work than I thought it would.

I tend to prefer a high scandi style edge so the Tops in this vid is my cup of tea. That said I think a full flat grind that has thin shoulders is where it's at. My new Brisa Kephart has become my favorite knife of the year and it's a full flat grind . They don't cut deep like a scandi but you can do really awesome carving/whittling with them, esp feather sticking. I've looked at getting that Esee PR4 kephart knife cause it's a full flat yet has that high saber wall. That style works great for batoning wood , but the handle scales are horrible looking on that knife .

@Robertssurvivalsystems I like saber grinds, and if I had to bug out with a knife, I'd grab my Gerber Prodigy. Their 420hc is some of the best steel for abuse that I've come across and it's easy to maintain the edge. My main issue with many sabers is that companies over build the main bevel. The Prodigy and or Strongarm is amazing once ya thin the edge and convex the shoulders it's awesome. They baton wood great and do most things very well . Doubling up a saber with a small scandi neck knife is a great combo.

Would it kill you to show back of sheath?? People want to know if the belt lanyard is sewn or if iit has a snap!!! Snaps fail &!you lose your knife!! Particularly when going through thick forest!!
