I'm not a fan of the Garberg. Undoubtedly it's a solid build, but that lack of a finger guard on a hard use knife is simply irresponsible, IMO. A slip can happen so easily out in the wild with cold hands, sleep deprivation, etc. Not worth the risk.

If it's German steel and 1095 Crovan what's the problem? I'm not sure the USA steel would be better quality than the German steel. My BK 18 does not have the USA stamp and was purchased after 2021. When you contacted Kabar did you ask if they changed the type of steel they now use from Germany? As for the changes in the sheath and stampings on the knife it's not uncommon for these markings to change over time with different production runs. I'm not certain the " sparkles " on the sheath mean anything. When you buy a knife or any product for that matter you are taking the manufacturers word that product is made of the materials they claim to use. I would not have a problem if they did change to German sourced steel. I believe KaBar is a reputable company and have been making knives for over 100 years. I think that speaks for itself.

So it may be that the steel used by Ka-Bar now is steel refined in Germany, but is it still 1095 Chrome Vanadium steel? That is the question. I just bought a BK-10 on Amazon for $105 before tax. The knife looks good, and does not have USA on the blade. The paper sticker on the end of the box with the bar code etc does say that the knife is made in the USA and that the sheath is made in China. The Sheath looks good, and the color brochure inside the box with the care instructions, Ka-Bar history etc, is full color and seems genuine. I have some confidence since the BK-10 is not one of their more popular models so may not have been faked yet. I have messaged the seller to ask if they get their knives from Ka-Bar or a distributor etc.

@rollypollyguy3976 Yep, I rehandled this one and another one on separate videos. I like them enough to upgrade um. It's basically a $20 D2 blank in my eyes , best deal for projects I have ever seen. A blade blank of this quality will usually run around $70 . It's hard to find D2 scandi blanks anymore cause makers have a hard time heat treating that steel. The designer of the Ned Foss blade was upset to see this knife . He had no idea Flissa was producing his blade before the release of his sea lion. Kinda sucks. ..I don't who allowed Flissa to use his design? I'm guessing it's the same factory Ned Foss uses and some contract stuff was in the small print 🤷♂️

When any company outsources production to China or any other country opens the door to this problem. The regular knife user does not care who made the knife, if it costs less they will buy it. Knife collectors may care but few of them are concerned because large numbers of them buy them too. Companies like Boker, Kershaw, Cold Steel and Spyderco all outsource to Taiwan, China, Japan and others may use other countries as well. If you are willing to buy a knife, costing five or more times more, for one made in the United States is a personal choice. How much are you willing to pay for the USA blade stamp? How much better is a USA made knife from a clone, copy or fake reproduction? American companies need to prove their knives are worth the extra cost first. I do my most to buy American made products and knives and have proof of doing it. This has become nearly impossible to do because of the laws the government places on American manufacturing companies. This insures driving them to outsource to other countries just to stay in business. 🤔😟😳
@averyj.steele10742 ай бұрын
HAHA! As if companies are outsourcing because of laws, and not because of profit motive. Sure, bud. If all those laws disappear tomorrow, I guarantee you nothing changes. Companies don't care about your hair-brained political ideas, they care about money. That's it.

If a company can’t design a knife of their own, they should just steal someone else’s design and change the name. I wouldn’t accept these knives even if someone gave them to me. CLARIFICATION: I just went through this with Ka-Bar. I bought a bk18 at a gun show. It had the USA on it. I contacted Ka-Bar, sent photos and they asked me to send the knife to Ka-Bar. KaBar stated it was indeed a fake. So KaBar original BK18 had USA on them, however the NEW ones do not have USA on the knife or the sheath. So bottom line, if No USA, it is probably real. If it has USA on it and it is not one of the older models, it is a fake. The tell is also the letter on the nuts as well. Joe X knife was real.. if yours is newer (and has USA), yours is fake too. Only older BK18 with USA are real. This INFO is the real deal as I just received my New Bk18 directly from plant manager off the floor (They actually replaced my fake one, despite buying from a gun show…very nice of them). My new BK18 has No USA on the knife or sheath. I hope this helps.

Beautiful job! When you put the two blades side to side, the one you dinged and reworked looks way more appealing to me. It’s not just the mirror polish. The difference in the profile is subtle but the difference in impression is powerful. I love to see those shoulders smoothed over so nicely like that. I just did a websearch for “knife blueprinting” which appears to be not yet a thing terminologically - but that’s what I want to call what you’re doing here. Without changing the essential characteristics of the knife you are refining it, closing the gap between the iteration and the Platonic ideal. As it were ;D
@airiksknifereviews95485 ай бұрын
@dongkhamet1351 Yep, I agree and will be changing the edge. I used it a bit yesterday and it's just to thin . They also burn the steel a bit on the belts so I gotta remove that tiny bit of steel. That's pretty common with these thin scandi grinds esp from China.
@dongkhamet13515 ай бұрын
@@airiksknifereviews9548 yeah, the more I work on new blades the more I think edges are being routinely burnt everywhere and at all levels. There’s too little at stake for the business side of things, to ensure that the extra time and effort is taken to keep the metal cool. I also assume there are plenty makers and manufacturers out there who do it right by procedural norm - but they might be a minority.

I live in Korea and I bought this knife. I am very confused. I bought a product from the official importer of ka bar in Korea. It's powder painting. When I removed the paint with a paint remover, the text is engraved on the iron plate. But it doesn't react to the Birchwood cold blowing solution. Like stainless steel.
