Good flight demo. I dunno, $300 seems steep for an efficient cross country cruiser. I guess 1.5m is a little bigger than some, which adds some value. Usually XC cruisers have some wing reflex to reduce the negative lift requirement from the elevator, that way they can make the elevator a little smaller. I’m guessing horizon missed that subtle airfoil detail, so the elevator would become too small for the wing area. You might be able to put some reflex back into the airfoil if the flaps and ailerons will all deflect up a degree or two. Basically, adding a smidge of reflex is going to make the plane a little more “flying wing” and a little less tail config. It’ll probable help your knife edge instability since the wing itself, rather than the tail, will help control the lift pitch moment.
@TwoBrosRC2 жыл бұрын
I have it set up for crow so I can adjust how much the ailerons pitch up at any point. That's an interesting idea.
@FFE-js2zp2 жыл бұрын
@@TwoBrosRC You could make it adjustable, or I was thinking you could hardwire it. It would be less risky to make it switchable/adjustable. It looks like the flaps are hinged like fowlers on a single channel, but can you deflect them up at all with negative subtrim or by adjusting pushrod length or clevis/ball joint position? It wouldn’t take much. Maybe 2 degrees.
@FFE-js2zp2 жыл бұрын
@@TwoBrosRC Missing airfoil reflex also explains why Tony ran out of elevator authority in the flare endgame. Basically, both the horizontal stab and elevator are close to scale, which becomes too small for a less aerodynamically sophisticated model’s wing, so it relies a little too much on airspeed to counter the natural pitch-down moment of a cambered wing. You can see the airplane pivots around the lateral axis too easily, basically all the time. That also squares with it wanting to pitch forward in a slow knife edge and backward in a fast knife edge. It’s just a minor design flaw with Horizon not understanding that these high speed civil XC cruisers are set up like a hybrid Flying Wing/Tail Config airplane to reduce tail size, tail weight, tail negative lift, and elevator induced drag, too squeeze out knots.

I've found that the Cirrus actually does excellent knife edge spins if you use full left rudder instead of right rudder, as well as full forward elevator and full left aileron. I've only done this with the recommended CG, I haven't tried it with the CG further back

Honestly, I wouldn't mind having another RV-7 just to make it reverse hover again. That trick was friggin' congress, man. Loved it. The Cirrus is more graceful and honestly more enjoyable to fly and land, and the KE spins it does are way more interesting. It really just comes down to personal preference. If I’m interested in precision aerobatics and no 3d, would you recommend this plane or the Eflite extra 300?
@TwoBrosRC2 ай бұрын
Not really, no. It's a scale aircraft, not really an aerobat in the slightest. You can make it perform aerobatics, but a purpose-built plane like the E-flite Extra 300 will always outperform it.

Would you recommend this as an option for a first low wing? I started flying 6 months ago with a Maule and i`m now looking at my next plane as im starting to do basic Aero moves. I like the looks of this one.
@TwoBrosRC Жыл бұрын
It's definitely docile enough to be a great low wing experience for your first foray into it. Definitely comes highly recommended! Just be careful to make sure the wings are level when you bring it in to land so you don't scrape up the wingtips. If you do, you can patch over any scrapes using white electrical tape - which itself works as fantastic foam armor. You can pick one up via bit.ly/3AouT9Z if you'd like to support us.

A wing will drop in a stall, if the stall is not coordinated(correct rudder input) that’s how it’s taught and performed in full scale. If you apply the correct rudder(coordinated) the wing will not drop in a stall. It will stall straight ahead.
@TwoBrosRC2 жыл бұрын
I'm not 100% sold on that given the tendency of foam aircraft to fly similar but distinct from their full scale counterparts.
