You know what I realised after this season? Crowley loves the universe. He loves everything so much that he can’t fathom destroying it. He wouldn’t kill Job’s goats and children, he wouldn’t let the office staff accidentally kill each other after replacing their paintball guns with actual guns, and he was against the apocalypse from the start. The only times he killed was to save Aziraphale from the French Revolution and the Nazis. He questioned ending the universe as an angel, and outright stopped it as a demon. He’s loyal to no side, only Aziraphale. Aziraphale only agreed to save it after Crowley convinced him that to thwart the Antichrist was in Heaven’s best interests. Crowley doesn’t see himself as a demon really because he didn’t really fall, just sauntered vaguely downwards, and he outright refuses to be on Heaven’s side. Aziraphale has always seen himself as an Angel. On the side of good. He has always seen the world in black and white. In Edinburgh, he originally saw grave digging as a sin, but considered it completely necessary after finding out what the bodies were used for. No grey area, just good or bad. And he thats why he offered Crowley a position in heaven, because he saw the things they did together as purely good so by his logic he must truly be an angel at heart, hence him insisting that deep down he’s a nice person. He loves Crowley, no doubt about it. But I think he currently loves the idea of Heaven more. Unless of course the Metatron did something to his coffee, in which case ignore everything I just said.

I loved your comment, it is basically what I think for these characters. Really I am totally agree whit this devastated final, because Azira is Azira, a fool and innocent angel, and is his charm. I don't think it's a matter of loving heaven, but aziraphale fundamentally believes in doing good, and he thinks that if he was in charge of heaven he would be able to protect Crowley AND earth.

@lieutenantdan1503 Жыл бұрын
I agree with eveything you wrote, except one thing. Aziraphale loves the idea of Heaven, but I think he also loves the idea of Crowley and... well, not Crowley. Or at least at a conscious level. Aziraphale doesn't fully accept Crowley for what they are (aka someone who doesn't belong to Heaven, but at the same time doesn't 100% belong to Hell either). Aziraphale keeps insisting that Crowley is actually good because he doesn't love them for what they are (for now), they love the IDEA of Crowley

I HAVE TO SAY SOMETHING BECAUSE I SEE SO MANY PEOPLE ANGRY AT AZIRAPHALE!!!! Guys. Aziraphale and Nina are the same. They are mirrors. They are BOTH coming out of abusive relationships. The difference? Nina got out, and Aziraphale hasn't yet. When we meet Aziraphale in the beginning of Season 1, his thoughts on Heaven are... complicated. He loves his life on Earth, but he also regards heaven as the "Good Guys" because that's what he's always been told. That aside, we also see that he exhibits behaviors of someone who has been mentally and verbally stripped down by others and is seeking any approval he can get to feel as if he's loved by them. Essentially: Aziraphale is in an abusive relationship with heaven. Now does that mean it's a good thing he went back to them? No. Not even close. But it is realistic. After 6000 years, he's finally gotten the approval he was seeking from "his side". His judgement is clouded by the euphoria of wanting so badly for these people to just accept him that he's willing to go to extreme lengths to step into their embrace. And inevitably, he will learn that this is not where he needs to be. He'll learn that their love is conditional, just as the love that he's learned to dole out is conditional. That he's too human for them. That he wants to love unconditionally. That he's worth more. But these are all things he must learn on his own. Had Aziraphale stayed behind, there would be a chance that at the first sign of acceptance, Aziraphale would have left Crowley. And that would have been even more devastating than this. Crowley never needed the time to grow because he rejected the doctrines outright. He didn't enjoy being an Angel because they never let him ask questions. He didn't enjoy being a Demon because they claimed he wasn't allowed to love. He rejected both because he saw them as the hypocrites they were. Aziraphale needs to learn all of this. But he needs to do it on his own. He needs to grow. To regret. To leave Heaven on his own terms. I'm glad he went back to heaven. Because when he realizes his mistake, he can truly begin fighting for Crowley with nothing, not even himself, standing in his way.

I agree with your assessment, but I also wonder why Crowley thought that leaving Aziraphale alone with the Metatron, one of the leading members of the institution that abused him, was such a good idea, especially after he was shown to be so protective over the guy who tried to cast him into Hellfire.

@@ThePrincessCH My guess, honestly, is that he trusts Aziraphale. He always has. And that's the tragedy in all of this. He trusted that Aziraphale trusted him back. He put his whole heart on the line. He handed it over and hoped, at the bare minimum, that they could go back to being how they always were. But he wanted love. He wanted to finally admit that Trust Me was always meant to be as good as a confession. And he didn't get that far. Because Crowley had hoped Aziraphale had learned. But he hasn't. Not yet. That's also what I think will make the largest impact in Season 3. Crowley has been fighting for them for so long, but he's never said anything. He's been too terrified to lose. But now he's lost. The gloves are officially OFF. These two can say what they mean, and Aziraphale can begin regaining that trust with Crowley again.

And, on top of that, when the kiss breaks, he was about to say "I love you" but cut off and said "I forgive you". That was his way of saying "I love you, but I can't". Was he gonna say that, though? I didn't get that from that scene. Just looked like he was grappling hard with his feelings for Crowley and his blind obedience to heaven, hence why he went into full angel mode when he said that line. The reason why Gabriel and Beelzebub were able to go off to Alpha Centauri is because they’re selfish. They didn’t want to work, they didn’t want to deal with another Apocalypse, and they didn’t want to protect the humans. All they care about is themselves and each other. It’s romantic, but selfish, too. Meanwhile Aziraphale’s willing to give up everything he loves - his bookshop, his food, even Crowley - just to save the earth. He wants to make heaven into the good place it should’ve been and he wants Crowley to finally be happy *with* him. Crowley’s depressed even at the beginning of the season before anything happened. The only time he was actually happy was as an angel smiling, creating the stars etc. Aziraphale just wants to see that smile again.

This is a good point, people are mad at Aziraphale (understandably so) for trying to "change" and "save" Crowley who doesn't want to be saved, but in the very beginning of the season we see Crowley as an angel and Aziraphale having a huge crush on him already (lol). He has probably romanticized those times and thinks he can have them back. It's naive, but also relatable.
@Slopmaster

I politely disagree and I think it isn’t fair comparing the couples. Aziraphale has always been more loyal to heaven and because of that has been blinded by its faults. He has religious trauma and it will take time for him to work through that. Meanwhile you are forgetting once Gabriel disagreed on Armageddon 2.0 the other archangels were going to not just demote him but, erase his memory. If he and Beelzebub were to stick around they would still be targeted. You literally have Nina and Maggie as Aziraphale and Crowley parallels. Nina with her toxic girlfriend and Aziraphale with heaven’s toxic mindset/ Metatron

I am obsessed with the fact that Crowley is the more human of the two. He couldn't kill the goats or Job's kids, he has spent his entire fallen existence doing the LEAST for hell because he loves humanity more. He introduces Aziraphale to food and all sorts of tempting human delights, causing him to love this life on Earth too. He introduces him here to a more human notion of physical love in a last desperate attempt to keep him there. He absolutely does understand more than Aziraphale, he understands he is in love and that they've been played by both heaven and hell. Aziraphale no doubt loves Crowley but doesn't know how to process or even express that because he is still so tied to heaven and his angelic identity. I don't think he even realizes it's romantic love he feels for Crowley. He thinks he is doing the right thing because it's all he knows. I'm sick, I am unwell. I will never recover. I think the saddest thing about this scene is it shows that despite how much Aziraphale loves Crowley, and how much he’s seen and been through all these years, he’s still clinging to this notion of good vs evil and can’t fully accept that Crowley is a demon. It’s a slap in the face to Crowley for sure, whose only real “transgressions” have been the audacity to question authority and to support life and freewill. And Aziraphale gets to see that first-hand, over and over again, while also witnessing how twisted the so-called "good guys" can be. Then Crowley spends pretty much the entire season bending over backwards to take care of Aziraphale, only for Az to turn around and and try to convince him to give up everything he is and stands for --- to go back to the place that essentially forsook them both. Meanwhile, Az's whole argument pretty much suggests he still views Crowley as inherently lesser or in need of forgiveness simply because of what he is. Definitely shows Az hasn't broken free of Heaven's grip and has a long way to go. I understand his point about wanting to make a difference, but I personally think he's being a bit naïve in terms of how far he thinks his influence will go and he isn't entirely prepared for what he's about to get himself into.

His naivety isn't much of a surprise though. When Crowley invited him to stay with him, Aziraphale expressed how "[his] side" wouldn't like the idea and this was after they punched him in the gut when they confronted about his hidden agenda.

@@ThePrincessCH Oh yeah, I made a note of him being naïve, but I didn't think it was a surprise either. Aziraphale, I think, has always been a bit prone to being idealistic and seeing the things he wants to see rather than what's there. I would kind of tweak a few of my previous points though. I've decided I don't think Aziraphale views Crowley as lesser so much as he sees how good Crowley truly is and believes there's no reason he shouldn't be, and shouldn't want to be, reinstated as an angel. He still views Heaven as the "good" side, but I think he is also able to acknowledge that it's flawed and sees an opportunity to make things better. He believes giving Crowley back his title is a part of that fix, and contrary to my previous comment, I do think he is genuinely thinking of Crowley's needs and not just his own. Rather, he's misguided because that's not what Crowley needs. And where Crowley goes wrong is that he fails to effectively communicate WHY that isn't what he needs. Just kind of wanted to add that in somewhere because my original comment was based on initial impressions that have shifted slightly.
@saralovelace7219

Just a note or two: 1. I still get the impression that Crowley never told Aziraphale what, exactly, went down in heaven when they Switched. It was to protect Aziraphale from the grief, I'm sure, but it does him no favors here because Aziraphale doesn't know the nastiest part of the story. 2. This is very much a parallel to the "I'm going back to my toxic ex" romance story beat. Down to "I can change them" and "they said things will be different this time". Either it won't go how he thinks, or it won't go how HEAVEN thinks. Aziraphale can be JUST as holier-than-thou as Gabriel ever was. And in his own way, could end up making heaven even worse because he is not the hypocrite Gabriel was; his idealism borders on zeal at times and he can be completely uncompromising. Especially if he's compensating for missing Crowley.

The fact that Aziraphale was given this chance but yet did not see how much of an insult it is to suggest that Crowley needs salvation and forgiveness in order to be with him is just.. heart breaking. The entire story has always been “we’re on our side” but in this moment you can see how Aziraphale looks at Crowley, the being that he so obviously loves, and says to his face that what he is, fundamentally, is evil. In this moment, he looks Crowley dead in the eye and basically says that what he is, and who he is, is not good enough. Heartbreaking.. utterly heartbreaking. Also that kiss.. hats off to Gaiman. He took the fan’s request and spun it into the most tragically symbolic moment of the entire 2 seasons.. That kiss held over 6,000 years of companionship and love, confirmed it, brought it to the surface.. but it was too late.

I also think probably Crowley has a lot more backstory that we don't (yet) know about, I think that his fall was probably really hard, because he was the one who tried to change things before (when he asked questions) and he was probably really powerful and in a position to do it. Aziraphale has always been a lower ranking angel and has never 'had the chance' and I think that's also part of the reason why he hasn't learnt yet that both heaven and hell are all the same... The "I forgive you" hurts so much because it a direct reminder to the "I forgive you" Aziraphale told Crowley in season 1. But in season 1, it was an answer to Crowley saying that he's unforgivable, a way to tell him that Aziraphale forgives him and love him anyways. But here, it's so devastating because it means that Aziraphale still hasn't moved on from Heaven's toxic influence. It's no longer a way to tell Crowley he loves him like he is, it means the exact opposite now, it means that Aziraphale thinks Crowley has to change. And damn it hurts !

To me it looked like Aziraphale was going to say something else before he said "I forgive you." I think the kiss was his first taste of passion, rather than strictly love, and I think it terrified him, with its concentrated, intense feeling--the fact that physical passion is so bodily, so real. They're not the same and don't always go hand in hand, though very often they do. I think this kiss activated feelings and responses he'd been laughing off or suppressing for years and he couldn't take it in all in a moment. It can be hard to take in when we are loved in that focused, intense way. Hard to feel we're worthy, and hard to accept that gift, in a way, which might feel too big or too strong to bear. It's very humbling, and scary, to take on someone's love, lest we find out we're not worthy of it, or not good at loving back, or we hurt the one who loves us. When we're loved in that way, it demands of us attention, responses, openness, time, vulnerability, all of which can be frightening.
@БурневскаяМария
@БурневскаяМария Жыл бұрын
Yes! Agree! You could see how that frightened him when he at first tried to kiss back or at least react somehow. When he put his hands on Crowley's back for example, but then he realized what he was doing, it scared him and he let go immediately. This earthly human thing scared him and when he realized that he actually tried to respond to this new thing, even if subconsciously (which is probably even worse than if he did it by his own will) he immediately put his hands away. It breaks me how much he's scared of the punishment, so much so, that he's trying to supress himself and his emotions and especially this new one.

This is a good observation! Crowley's kiss was violent. It was essentially an assault. Azi was not a consenting party and was NOT ready for this. Crowley's move was one of desperation, of laying it all on the line as a last hail mary (hahahaa) and see what happens... but really, because Azi was not ready for it, it amounted to an assault. And I like this from a storytelling perspective. Usually, in fiction, on TV and in movies, the violent-last-ditch-desperate-kiss WORKS. It's so not realistic, but we love watching it. Two characters argue, one says "f** it" and kisses the other, the other is first shocked, but then relaxes into and reciprocates. Yay, now we're all happy. But that didn't happen here. We don't get that happy ending. We get the more realistic (despite the fantasy aspect of the characters!) reaction -- Azi is first shocked, then sort of reciprocates when he puts his hands on Crowley's back, but then backs off and instead acts as though he has been assaulted rather than loved. This is how I've been thinking about it, but your addition to my thought process is that, indeed, this is the first time Azi has experienced physical passion (violent, consensual, or otherwise) and he is not able to cope with it. ESPECIALLY not at the same time as he's trying to cope with everything else happening right now. He's never allowed himself to actually think about physical romance with Crowley (or with anyone) and he's scared and confused and overwhelmed. Of COURSE he's going to start crying and close himself off and not reciprocate. He is SO not ready for it. I'd even suggest that Crowley's choice to kiss him at that moment just made things worse -- though story-wise, it was certainly necessary, since Azi now will start thinking about it at a conscious level.

@@heatherfyffe3618 I agree with your points. Yes, consent issues are involved here. It might well have made things worse though it seemed like Aziraphale's mind was made up. We can't know for sure if this was his first kiss, but somehow that's the impression I get, 6,000 years on earth or not. I think he chose heaven even after Crowley's confession possibly because that level of intimacy frightened him. I also think that he feels morally obligated to stop heave from killing humans (and angels) so routinely. I also think Metatron manipulated him by flattering his sense of pride and need for approval.

Honestly, this whole scene just made me realize how Aziraphale has never fully left Heaven, and how he truly is still naive and brainwashed. And that terrifies me. And my heart just breaks for Crowley. But it also breaks for Aziraphale. Crowley, being a demon, has not only seen the bad side of heaven because of the fall, but he has seen how awful hell is (because it's meant to be awful), and realized how mutual earth is because nothing is "perfect" and nothing is "damaged". Life is just life, whatever that means to anyone. There is not just "good" and "bad". Aziraphale is still learning to separate that. Aziraphale has suffered so much being with Heaven (and we see how much that affects him in both seasons), but because he never overcame the brainwashing as Crowley did, he continues to be oblivious to how wrong it all is. Aziraphale has seen only Heaven, and he has only seen Earth. And I think Crowley is the way he is, is because he's seen all three, experienced all three, and learned from all three. Crowley can see the gray, but Aziaphale hasn't fully seen (or experienced) the black to get to the grey. Not like Crowley. Heaven is a cult, and they have a tight grip on Aziraphale, and it seems like they know it, which is why I'm terrified for Season 3 because I can only imagine how they are going to use him. Another part of me believes in the coffee theory, but also in the theory that Aziraphale was JUST about to change his mind and instead be with Crowley, but after hearing of the plans, he chose to sacrifice that relationship to save humanity once more. Just this time alone. Regardless, the last 10 min broke me. I literally broke down in front of my mom who was just so confused why I was so passionate about this lol

I really feel like this scene really shows two very different but very real reactions to religious trauma. crowley is the Self Proclaimed Sinner. someone who's not necessarily happy about it but he's accepted he's "going to hell" and hates the cult/church he left. for these kinds nothing would be more horrifying than being asked or told to go back. it means going into the box of repression. Aziraphale is the one who was slowly cast out because of the cracks showing in their facade. this type can be harder for people to understand. they want to be loved by the cult/church still. they want to be welcomed back and told it's okay we forgive you. for aziraphale he's been heavily manipulated just moments earlier. given everything he's wanted. salvation and forgiveness for not only him but his dearest loved one. he assumes crowley wants that too deep down. he's of course very deeply and hurtfully wrong. it makes me angry with him, as an ex-cult member who's definitely more of a Crowley but I also understand him since I've seen loved ones who are Aziraphales and how hard it was for them to finally leave the love bombing and guilt tripping and manipulation. Neil Gaiman and I'm sure John Finnemore too created something so beautiful and tragic here that makes me feel so seen. this kind of fight is so true to life and heartbreaking. I can confidently say that nothing I've ever watched has brought me this much anguish and genuine heartbreak in, what, just over 3 minutes, just because of how much SENSE this scene has. You cannot ignore Aziraphale's reasoning as a victim of an abusive relationship with Heaven, and you can't deny that Crowley is right in that moment. It would be too easy to put the blame on Aziraphale for choosing such cruel words to describe Crowley and walking away. But, but then, he's not going back to Heaven, not really - in his mind, he's the reform. He's rebuilding it, so it can be a place for him and Crowley to live in, where Crowley's goodness could truly shine as pre-fall. When he says "Nothing lasts forever" he doesn't mean his love for Crowley will end, in fact, I think the major part of him saying yes to Metatron was motivated by his will to be somewhere safer than the Earth with Crowley. Aziraphale understands that they can't run away forever, because as long as there are forces Upstairs and Downstairs they'll be in danger. It's all just... AHHHHH this is a Greek tragedy level of misunderstandings.

So many clever little things about this whole scene. Absolutely heartbreaking. ‘Tell me you said no!’ and we can see such despair in Crowley’s voice. And later when he starts his speech it’s obvious how hard it’s to say these words, how he’s forcing them out and how much he means it. And he puts on his glasses, so neither Aziraphale nor we can see his eyes till the end of the episode. I can imagine why. When he repeats ‘We could’ve been… us’ Aziraphale turns his head and I’m sure he’s got tears in his eyes. And the kiss is perfect. So desperate on Crowley’s part, and we can see Aziraphale puts both his hands on Crowley’s back. Truly horrible phrase ‘I forgive you’ completely not what Crowley expected to hear. So cruel, but so in character. ‘Don’t bother’ is the only possible response to that. And Crowley doesn’t know Aziraphale touches his lips with his fingers, probably trying to process what has just happened, what HE has done. I’m not sure watching this scene so many times is good for my mental health really.

AN ANALYSIS OF SOME OF THE LINES the first “tell me you said no” was angry. the second one was scared aziraphale meant “nothing lasts forever” as in them being on earth. the bookshop wouldn’t last forever crowley took it as ‘nothing lasts forever. not the bookshop, not us.’ “I don’t think you understand what i’m offering you” meant ‘i’m offering for us to be able to love each other safely’ and “I understand a whole lot better than you do” was a ‘I’ve spent the past 6000 years thinking I wasn’t good enough for you as i am, and i was right.’ “I forgive you” wasn’t aziraphale forgiving crowley for loving him, or saying that his love was sinful. It was aziraphale forgiving crowley for hurting him like that (from his perspective) “Don’t bother” wasn’t a ‘I don’t want your forgiveness’, it was a ‘I’m not deserving of your forgiveness and I know that’

God... the fact that you can see all the rollercoaster of emotions in just a millisecond of aziraphale's hand gestures... the shock, the rush of delight, the giving in and the utter battle against that feeling. And Crowley, poor baby, he wasn't rejected, he was told he needs to change to be good enough, and that's even worse. I truly thought that the one loving unconditionally and above all things was Zira, but after this I know I was sooo wrong.
@supremeoverlorde2109

I honestly felt that way as well, but in retrospect, I think Aziraphale has ALWAYS been hesitant to let himself love Crowley. We saw it in season 1 and now we're seeing it in season 2 --- him grappling with the idea that Crowley is a demon, and often feeling like he's lowering himself by being friends with one. Crowley is the prickly one who isn't as quick to trust or be vulnerable, but I think being the kind of individual who has never truly felt like he belonged anywhere, he has a unique perspective. He's non-discriminating and doesn't care what Aziraphale is. He just loves him. And I think it says a lot about Crowley's character that, as we see this season, he is willing to risk life and limb to protect Aziraphale, but the one thing he WON'T do is fundamentally change himself or go against who he is and what he stands for. I think It totally breaks his heart that Aziraphale would ask him to do just that --- and perhaps even more so that he doesn't seem to understand why the offer is so hurtful.
@mxdivina
@mxdivina Жыл бұрын
@@supremeoverlorde2109 yeees that's soooooo true. But also, now rewatching it, I think aziraphale doesn't see his relationship with Crowley as lowering himself or like holier-than-thou, but with hesitation. Like Crowley's status as a demon can take him away at any moment. He believes that by saving him, they will be happy together. While Crowley knows that being happy together is their salvation. I want to believe is like the exactly from the beginning, "I feel like you exactly and my exactly are not the same exactlies". Zira idealizes a heaven worthy of Crowley, while Crowley thinks Aziraphale still sees him as unworthy.
@supremeoverlorde2109
@supremeoverlorde2109 Жыл бұрын
@@mxdivina I'm wondering if it's a little bit of both --- only because if he fully accepted that Crowley was a demon and that there was room for shades of gray, I feel he wouldn't have said things like, "You're the bad guys," or said, "I forgive you," after Crowley kissed him. To me, that showed he hadn't come far from their conversation where Crowley proposed they run away together under different circumstances, when it was clear that Aziraphale hadn't found a way to reconcile his angelic responsibilities with his friendship to Crowley. I think part of what allowed them to grow so much closer between seasons 1 and 2 is that they were both outcasts at that point, and so neither of them felt compelled any longer to keep up appearances or keep their relationship on the downlow --- plus the fact that they had nowhere else to turn and could only rely on each other. And I think it must have been hurtful for Crowley that the minute Aziraphale was offered a ticket back to Heaven, which betrayed them both, he was ready to throw everything away for it, while suggesting that just being "us" wasn't good enough. That said, I do think it's possible that you're right that on some level, Aziraphale also saw this as an opportunity to protect Crowley and carve out a path for both of them to be happy. He may have believed that by making a difference, he could create a world where he and Crowley were not only on the side of "good," but also safe and no longer outcasts who constantly had to look over their shoulders and avoid attracting the wrong kind of attention. And of course, I think his decision also stemmed from his own idealism and need to feel like he's working as a force for good.
@supremeoverlorde2109
@supremeoverlorde2109 Жыл бұрын
@@mxdivina Although --- as an added note now that I've thought about it further, I think you could make the argument that Aziraphale's "I forgive you," was less a "holier-than-thou" and more of an intentional swipe at Crowley out of pure spite. Aziraphale isn't usually the spiteful type of course, but he was feeling hurt by Crowley's rejection of his offer and then Crowley had the nerve to kiss him unprompted, leaving him conflicted and vulnerable, which was the last thing he wanted to be. While he may not have foreseen how much his offer would hurt Crowley, he surely wasn't ignorant and naïve enough NOT to realize that saying, "I forgive you," would hurt him. So I think that had to have been intentional.

Because that means Crowley is left behind on earth without him as well. They are all the other one is used to and so desperately needs. I don’t think we give Azi enough credit for how confusing and taxing this interaction must have been for him. 1. The convo starts off with Crowley confessing he loves Azi in the most roundabout way possible but concludes what he wants to say with let’s run off and be together. 2. Azi proceeds to agree he DOES want to be with Crowley and he “knows” a safe way they can do that 3. Seconds later Crowley is bargaining with the bookshop (same one he was saying they need to run from) 4. Azi (in a roundabout way of course as these guys almost always do) says he willing to give up the bookshop if that means him and Crowley are safe to be together (something Crowley was just on board btw!) 5. Crowley (fairly) interprets the “nothing last forever” line as rejection and begins to leave, seemly abandoning the group of the two of them (just say COUPLE) in Azi’s eyes 6. Now it’s time for Azi’s “i need you!” which roughly translates to “i love you” but god forbid he actually say the words (no pun intended?) 7. “No nightingales” like woof. Low blow there. This is like whiplash going from “let’s run away like the lovers who we just witnessed doing that very thing” to “I don’t feel the love in the air between us like I once did because of what you’re trying to make me do” 8. Azi’s utter devastation and what I also believe to be guilt, finally speechless turning away to conceal his tears 9. The kiss borne out of pure desperation and instinct, a way to demonstration romantic love in a way Azi will understand (from all his books) since words continue to fail them 10. Finally Azi awkward response during the kiss followed by stuttering and breathlessness, clearly in shock and unable to decipher what to feel from all the conflicting signals he’s received. The “I forgive you” line? Could mean a lot of things but my headcanon is that Azi is protecting Crowley in some way by saying this. This was a much longer comment than I intended. Here’s hoping for softer kisses, clearer communication and some apology dances in season 3! [edited for spelling & some grammar]

Yeah, I think it's easier for a lot of people to side with Crowley because so many people identify with him, but the communication breakdown was on both of them, and I think Az felt just as hurt and betrayed as Crowley did. And I think he was confused because he couldn't understand why Crowley was rejecting this chance for them to finally be together without fear and judgment while also making Heaven a better place.

A heartbreaking end. I expect that's why Aziraphale was promoted--to force their relationship to end. The metatron saw how all their recent major plans were thwarted by the romance of an Aziraphale and Crowley. First, they stopped armageddon, then their romance inspired Gabriel and Beelz who stopped armageddon 2, then they thwarted heaven's attempts to wipe Gabriel's memory. The metatron knew that Crowley would never return to Heaven. The metatron gave Aziraphale the one thing that would cause him to leave his bookshop--the perception that he'd be able to make a difference in the world and the ability to "fix" Crowley. Of course, we all saw how Gabriel was treated when he went against the plans of the other archangels, so I doubt Aziraphale will fare much better, especially without Crowley to defend/support him. As a twist of the knife, the metatron gave the bookshop to the dimwitted angel, who will undoubtedly sell the books, with no understanding of their value. Perhaps one saving grace is that Gabriel's filing system will slow down the sales as no one will be able to find anything!

Oh, like electric current! Nice one. I wonder how near the two of them have to be, to do a joined miracle. Would be a nice coincidence/deus ex machina thing to give a turn towards a good ending. Or (sorry, dark thought), heaven could capture Crowley, torture him (with angels feathers☺) to do a miracle, and tell Aziraphael, who is clueless, to do the same at the same time. @@karinsch3347 I'm not sure distance would matter unless their proximity forms a transformer (e.g. a multi-winding primary transformer). Hmm, I wonder what'd happen if Aziraphale created a miracle in hell at the same time Crowley created a parallel miracle in heaven. Would the distance from the power source (heaven & hell) matter? I remember that one odd comment when Aziraphale was discorporated and he needed a body. He mentioned to Crowley "pity I can't inhabit yours, angel... demon... probably explode". There definitely seems to be some electric-like potential difference between the heaven (positive) and hell (negative).

Some very heartbroken fans are being far too harsh on Aziraphale.... They've both got valid reasons for their choices with Crowley deciding he wants love and is ready to be selfish while Aziraphale isn't willing to give up on the world and desperately wants to change Heaven for the better. First season it was Crowley convincing Aziraphale to save the Earth. This time it's Aziraphale trying to convince Crowley. Like Nina, Aziraphale is coming out of an abusive relationship (in his case with Heaven) but this doesn't mean he's given up on the ideals he thought Heaven stood for. Also, Gabriel and Beelzebub's relationship is right there for comparison and it's one of equals, whereas Aziraphale has consistently been damsel in distress in his and Crowley's history. He's been unappreciated and insulted by his fellows for 6000 years. There's no way he's ready to be with Crowley just yet, not before he learns to have confidence in himself. These two could have resolved this so much more gently if they'd just communicated 😞
@karinsch3347
@karinsch3347 Жыл бұрын
Don't forget, also Crowley has been in an abbusive relationship. Like N/M said: he doesn't trust anyone anymore. He is used to act tough, so he doesn't get hurt further. Azi got insulted etc., Crowley got punished by hell (see the gravedigger story), in was abandoned by heaven in the first place. So, they developped different coping mecanisms, and that0s one of the reasons their communication is so difficult.

I will never not be floored by how well this was acted out by these two. T A T Crowley's disappointment, sorrow, resignation were so apparent. Then there's Aziraphale's emotional whiplash... having been so completely overjoyed in thinking that he and Crowley could up together...to make things better for earth, by bringing their empathy to heaven, then the realization that that isn't what Crowley wanted, the heartbreak, doubt, and anger in realizing that this was going to separate them... just absolutely incredibly done. And that's exactly why it's so agonizing, because all of us know, (and now they do too) that they truly love each other.

This scene is so heartbreaking and hard to watch, but (potentially unpopular opinion) it is one of my favorite scenes in the whole show. There is something so beautiful about seeing a character go out of their comfort zone to show their love. Crowley has always shown his love through acts of service and gift-giving, and it is what he is most comfortable with. These are great ways to show love, but love is also about doing what you think your partner needs. I'm sure Aziraphale was pretty certain that Crowley loved him, but Crowley wanted to ensure that he knew. So Crowley went out of his comfort zone and verbally told Aziraphale what he wanted from their relationship. It's such amazing writing and such a great love story. I can't wait until we can see them confess and have it end on a happier note. Also, both Sheen and Tennant went all out in the acting for this scene and it was amazing!
