Even though the ERA may have failed, much of what the feminists fought for did come to fruition either through legislation or case law :)

Is it bad if I snickered a little seeing that Reagan appointed a pro ERA woman over Phyllis?

Yes, considering it was Jeane Kirkpatrick, who was arguably far worse in American foreign policy matters than Schlafly ever would have been. (Kirkpatrick also staunchly supported Argentina against the United Kingdom during the Falklands War, so being British I have hate her by default.)

Apart from Watchmen, probably th most important and consequential television series of 2020! Explains a lot of what America is going through and reverse engineers how similiar things still are.

At the end I felt bad for phylis she definitely was secretly a feminist

Yeah, it's sad because she was independent in her own way and quite smart. But she was stifled by her own views on what women should be in society. The Take made this really great video and they talked about how these rich white women slowly find out that their opposition of feminist rights hurt them too.

@@drartemisa21 no matter how smart you are or independent you are in the end if you are a conservative ant at same time you arent a rich straight man your bigotry wont never be free nor this wont make powerful men to see you as equal.

She wasn't a feminist. She was a female misogynist. Even a non-feminist can see what a hypocrite she is since she kept preaching that a woman's proper place is in the kitchen when she took the bar exam and ran for Congress twice (but lost). She fought for an unjust (and dying world) so was she expecting some sort of exception? The way she slut shames others and says that marital rape isn't true is just sickening. It's a good thing a woman like her never had a cabinet post in the White House. Ever.

@@matheuslima9445 agree with you completely. I guess what I just meant was Cate Blanchett played the character very well and it goes to show that the character was an actual human being that one can feel a range of emotions when her name is brought up. And the main point was in how these conservative (white) privileged women think they're fighting for what's right with the beliefs they were exposed to in their world and don't realize for themselves how outdated that world is, and that it won't help or defend or fight for them. Along the same lines as the people that think activism is a nuisance or something to fight against without realizing that true change comes from standing up for what's right, not because it's what's always been done.

It was really interesting to see the birth and creation of the Republican party and their values displayed here. You can see a very different approach from both sides, a strict Christian woman that wanted to keep the status quota versus freedom for all. Absolutely beautiful series.

I wonder if they'll eventually amend the ending, since a joint resolution has been introduced in the Senate (by Republican Lisa Murkowski, no less) to remove the deadline.
