Hold the phone, did they really have children in the show? I guess back then, you could be any age to work at Disneyland.

Yes, they did have professional child actors in the show, and to this day, they are Disney's youngest cast members ever. My son was one of them -- he is the younger brother in this video. The youngest were 9 and 10 years old and believe me, it was quite controversial that they were cast members. It was a dream job for each of them though! There were about 8 boys total, 4 sharing the role of each brother. They did 5 shows a day, 7 days a week, thus the need for so many actors. At the curtain call in this video, you will see them bring up people from the audience -- there were members of the casts who worked the other days. The kids went to school backstage on the days they were working and followed very strict child labor laws, including performer unions and required trust accounts. They first tried this show with adults playing the child parts (you can see that in the VMI video with of Opening Day with Eden Espinosa) but found the audience didn't understand it and it wasn't believable/emotional.

Wow, that's crazy! It's a bummer that the show was not as successful as they hoped. At least your son can say that he worked at California Adventure.

Older brother: "Oh wait! Vera, you're my fairy godmother. I don't want my dream to end" Vera: "It won't end as long as you remember the magic words." Both brothers: "Greatness is nobility of the heart." Vera: "Exactly. Just remember, whatever you do in life, we are proud of you already" Note that many of the lines in this last show were improvised by the actors since they knew they were losing their jobs and Disney couldn't do much to stop it. There were lots of inside jokes.
