Welcome to my full walkthrough of "Riven: The Sequel to Myst," a captivating puzzle-solving, point-and-click, first-person exploration game developed by Cyan. In this "amnesia run," I'm playing the new real-time, fully-3D remake, released on June 25, 2024. This version features stunning updated graphics, improved controls, enhanced puzzles, and VR support.
Continuing the story from 1993's "Myst," I once again control "the Stranger," who must assist Atrus, an artisan and explorer, in rescuing his wife Catherine from the clutches of Gehn, Atrus's manipulative father and ruler of Riven: a beautiful world of interconnected islands. To save Catherine and return safely, I'll need to unravel the intricate mysteries of Riven, learn about its inhabitants, and confront the power-hungry Gehn. Who's telling the truth? What does that switch do? How do I open this door? Join me on this let's play to uncover all the answers!
Originally released by Cyan on October 31, 1997, "Riven" garnered critical acclaim and became the best-selling game of the year. Unlike its predecessor, this follow-up offers a more directionless approach to its puzzles and storytelling, but rewards with its expansive world building, deep lore, and gorgeous design. I hope you're not discouraged by the view counts now, after all these years away; your content is just as high-quality as I remember it being, you just need to find a new generation of viewers. Definitely do more with Shorts if you get the chance, KZbin seems to love those for promoting through their algorithm.

@@HellJustFroze I'm going to end up producing around 30 shorts just from this one series - so hopefully that helps a bit! Not too discouraged about the viewcounts, though - they honestly weren't all that high for Game Time when I last did this show in 2016... this is all for fun, for me 🙂

I'm glad to hear that! During the edit I kept thinking: is any of this usable? I spent several *entire* videos working on a single puzzle. (episodes 9, 11, and 13, haha) - but if I had known the answer and just went right to the solution, I feel like that would have been very boring.

They did a great job with the remake. The character models fall a bit short for me however. It's hard to live up to the live action and actor's performances. That moment from the original when Catherine gets on the elevator with you and the music swells as you're descending, it's hard to compete with that level of production value.
