My gosh, if someone had walked into the shop and asked for a rear bracket like that one to be made, I would only guess that the cost would be rather insane just because of the time it takes to hand forge one out, not necessarily because of the cost of materials. Having a sample piece to guide the process was a pleasant supplement. Now for the leather and upholstery work...this will be real interesting to witness.

🎬 Dave, hello from Wren, Oregon. Your videos are always fascinating to watch, 👀, in fact if I were a few years younger (I just celebrated my 71st lap around the sun), I'd be moving so I could be located a lot closer to you and become a fixture in your shop. ⚠You are a master.⚠ It would have been quite an adventure, to have been alongside you in the shop, as it seems that everything you do has the touch of excellence crafted into each and every move you make. I'm pretty sure that no matter what you're sharing, whether it's rebuilding a wheel, cart, wagon, fixing the apartments or creating a freeze proof watering system for the cows, you will have my utmost attention, watching and learning as you continue creating each and every masterpiece. Keep up the GREAT WORK‼ and stay healthy. 🛠🪚🗜🪛🔧🔨

Thanks for making the great videos showing your design process. The power hammering vs. hand hammering was very interesting, especially how the stock is manipulated and the hammer not so much. I think you should have made two back braces and hung that other one under the driver's seat, which seems to be an otherwise unused space. I still think the passenger seats are not sufficiently braced in the middle, 3/4 inch poplar doesn't seem rugged enough. The cross bracing for the driver's seat makes good sense, as that structure is so top loaded and wracks side to side when rolling along. Thanks again, your videos are very well done and are great tutorials for efficient and elegant working habits.

It has been a genuine pleasure watching this Mud Wagon take shape! Dave, and I give you great credit for your reasoning to put this wagon together, and Dianne for capturing the key elements of the build! "I like the "Machine gun" effect of the power hammer in quick mode" Well done Dianne. I know this wagon is far superior to the original wagon for your care in measurements, But I also have to give credit to the original designers and builders of the wagon! They sure were not dummies in that time period!

It is always a bit sad, as we approach the end of one of these projects. These wagons, carriages, etc. become like 'old friends', and we know that soon they will be 'moving away'. But, then there is always the question... "What will the next project be?" And that goes a long way toward making things OK. THANKS for letting us follow along.

In today's world of plastics and 3d printing. I believe the younger generations could have no idea just how much time and skill it takes to makes that tapered and s curved brace you documented forging. I like this as much as the Democrat buggy and the bob sled. I am looking forward to the finish on this one. The amazing part of this project is the fact that someone is willing to invest the kind of resources it takes these days to restore something such as this mud wagon. Sad that more folks out there do not consider the facts and keep some of the past still part of today. Like an old car from 1930, there's just something about old things that have their place, even in our modern world. Not only that but their simplicity makes them just about last forever and fixing them doesn't require specialized parts, just make one !

3:48 Am in awe of the original designers of these wagons. Ask a modern coachbuilder or auto designer to come up with a multi seater vehicle made of wood. Able to traverse rocky mountain roads and last longer than a mans life span. Today “we” make tin boxes with wheel each corner and scrap them not long after. Thankyou sir for videoing your work. I’m a 1940’s model and have always been drawn to grey dried out wagons beside the roads I’ve travelled. Always wondered how a wooden spoked wheel could take side loading. Cornering at speed with loaded wagon and the hub doesn’t punch out through the spokes! Now you have opened up my wonder when I see the engineering of an entire wagon. Reckon modern construction of anything is folks standing on the shoulders of giants who tackled the impossible. Back in the day of horse drawn sleighs or sleds what percentage of men could come up with a wheeled wagon with suspension? And it had not been done before. Well there were chariots and apparently wagons mentioned in the bible but someone had to begin the process for those too. Am convinced that we are blind fools to not notice our mathematics are based on very ancient people and we are devolving not evolving. Not only mathematics but metallurgy and high rise construction water pumps and so on and on. We have almost “ruined” the earth and I am intensely interested in our future based on what I’m seeing of our past. I see hope. But that’s another story.
