As a retired fuel barge and tug combo on Ft.Lauderdale FL. Good Luck Tim. May your time on Paquita be the Best Time so far, Cap you've earned it. With hours and days away from family and friends, to keep your neighbors and friends going with fuel that they need. Thanks for your time and service. Here is my story since you have just let it be known how interested you are with the demographics of your channel. My very early years (50's) were in South Jersey. I was exposed to shipping in general around Camden and Philadelphia. I've all ways been intrigued with tugs. Big powerful tools float my boat so I've also be fascinated with Trains and heavy equipment. Tugs however never took a back seat. Now at 72 the window of opportunity to join your lifestyle has closed. Thank you for allowing me to vicariously live that life through you. Keep up the good vids, Thank You.

Checking in from Liverpool,UK. I'm from a family of seafarers. My dad used to sail regularly from Liverpool and Southampton to New York in the early 1960's with Cunard in such vessels as the old Queen Mary, Caronia,Carinthia and Sylvania. It was a great trip for him as he had cousins in Hoboken,so he could cross the river and visit them on a regular basis !

I lived in Wyoming now in Virginia Beach, VA. I found your channel because I was doing research about Tugs. I was commissioned to paint a picture for a Tug Boat captain’s birthday. (Painted a Tug Boat for him). Since I knew nothing about the big tugs so I had to learn a lot before my first stroke of my brush. No pressure, I painted his same kind of boat. I have been fascinated with your channel to learn the day to day.

Regarding your forthcoming trip to Holland--be aware that the Dutch eat enormous meals. I know Holland very well---the first time I passed through I stopped at the boarder between Holland & Germany--there I had a meal--I ordered ham & eggs,, this meal is know as an uitsmijter it consists of four slices of buttered bread on a plate at least (12 inches in diameter) the bread was covered in thick slices of ham with 3 fried eggs on top complete with a side salad--the whole meal was enough to feed three people. Long time listener, first time caller! (haha hope that doesn't show my age too much ;)) Best of luck to you on your endeavors! Not even sure how I started watching your channel, I work in IT providing technical support and generally watch technical/nerdy stuff on KZbin and somehow through KZbin's weird algorithm and my assorted clicking, got sent to your channel and got hooked! I think it must have started with the narrowboat channel "Cruising the Cut", watched a few of his videos last year and here I am.. having binge watched all of yours (and his) videos a few times over the past year or so. The wonders of KZbin! (I've never even been on a ship on the ocean, despite living 3 hours away from Seattle and having been to Alaska a couple dozen times) On a side note and what actually brought me here, I was winding down for the evening and looking through PeriScope Films channel and came across this video and instantly thought of you, thought you might be interested and/or get a chuckle out of it, just made me think of all those old salty sailors you always joke about :) It's a short (13 minute) film recorded in 1967 about a tugboat captain for the company Moran Towing in New York, it features the captain of the Teresa Moran tug (later renamed Cape Henry). The video just posted about 2 months ago. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3rEaYdqgbSqrMU&ab_channel=PeriscopeFilm

I stopped watching regular television a few years ago and now almost exclusively watch KZbin for entertainment and to broaden my own horizons. Just wanted to say thanks for the great content to date in this area and I honestly look forward to whatever content you bring in the future! I am also subbed to your Paquita channel too! Captain Tim, I have enjoyed your videos and being in the wheelhouse with you so many times and I thank you for having us along with you, but it is a mariner's destiny to wander .. so we understand your need. After all, not too hard of a choice .. freeze your butt off in NYC or go to Puerto Rico .. anyways, thank you for sharing your experience as a tug master .. good luck and happy times in Puerto Rico, from a Sailor with 17yrs at sea, Fair winds and Following Seas. v/r Glenn / 200 Ton Master {looking for a boat} .

Your comments about steerage with tide effects were very helpful for me. I had a dramatic experience crossing an incoming tide while outgoing in a channel got my blood turning. My rudders quickly seemed to not be there at all.

But I wish you the best on your new chapter, and will continue to watch and envy the nice weather. I look forward to continuing to learn about the maritime life from you.

What I've noticed from other sail boaties, when it comes to sail boats and hurricanes the anchor that "they" say is suitable is usually about half that required! Fair winds Captain!
@TimBatSea2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching Stephen. Ok. Have you seen my other channel, SV Paquita? You might like that one. I have found that sailboats don't drag anchor 8n a hurricane when they are on the hard. 😂 CUOTO

Thanks for all the videos Tim! I never considered a job in the maritime industry until I saw your videos. Then my wife and I moved to Charleston, SC for her job. Now I’m working in marine construction and spending about half my days as a deckhand on a little 1200 hp tug doing ramp barge and small contract work. I love it!

Tim, you have given this old wanna be/could have been mariner some satisfaction from a life not chosen (but the life I have been given instead has been great.) Seeing New York from your perspective has been very interesting and enjoyable. I really enjoy watching masters at their craft work, no matter what tools they have been given. As a sail boater on the Great Lakes I wish your adventures and gained experience as a sailor to be a great satisfaction to you and I will be watching SV Paquita.

Fair winds and following seas! Enjoy the warmer latitudes, I’m going to miss seeing my ole stomping grounds via your channel. Thanks for doing the heavy lifting a channel such yours requires. Suitcase winch, fiddley, catenary, turnbuckles, fiddles and surge gear? Such wacky names for tug boat parts.
