Aaron Gordon (23 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists) and Michael Porter Jr. (15 points, career-high 16 rebounds) added a combined 38 points for the Nuggets in the victory, while Victor Wembanyama tallied 23 points, 15 rebounds, 8 assists and 9 blocks for the Spurs in the losing effort. The Nuggets have won back-to-back games as they improve to 53-23 on the season, while the Spurs fall to 18-58.
Victor Wembanyama becomes the third player since blocks were recorded in 1973-74 with 23+ points, 15+ rebounds, 8+ assists and 9+ blocks, joining:

He is clearly one of, if be THE best defender in the league right now, and not just for his high/wingspan, but also his timing, special awareness and ability to read the game And Jones had a triple double tonight (10/11/12)… he is a good PG, between Wemby, Vassell, Sochan and Jones there is a core for a competitive team next year… without no additions, if Wemby can play some 30+ minutes, I can see them getting a play-in spot, maybe even a 6th or 5th seed…

Last year's bench during the regular season was much worse. Now people acting as if Bruce was putting up Jamal's numbers in the post season and was the main reason they even won the championship. The only lazy thing here is that tired and lazy take. The team's salary cap is already into the second apron, so they aren't being stingy with money. The GM wanted to allow their own young draft picks to gain experience(which they have been doing for years and the reason they're contenders) instead of overpaying for free agents just to please casuals.

The team is already diving straight into the second apron, they don't really have much in the way of money they can spend, or enough to outbid other teams, which is why their bench is either vet mins or rookies/sophomores, which they can usually counter with their elite starting unit which has been missing Jamal. If anything, Denver is trying to get ahead of other teams when it comes to the new CBA by trying to build and reinforce their team through the draft, which in the case of Braun and Watson, and possibly in the future Strawther, shows they may have some merit to their philosophy.

With nobody being able to stay in front of their man Wemby almost always has to go to help them leaving the rebound and easy bucket for opposing centers. He has to defend 2-3 people almost every play. If Gobert had to do this, he would be gassed almost every quarter. What a 20 year old rookie is doing is insane and with everything he has done absolutely deserves to be the first ever rookie DPOTY.

Wemby is at 3.2, AD is at 2.4 Wemby is at 8.7 rebounds per game, gobert is at 9.1, AD at 9.7 So if you're splitting hairs between gobert and wemby, 3 blocks is more significant than the 45 vs 43 considering that wemby doesn't have to get subbed out when the opposing team goes super small
