The uplifting finale from Gustav Mahler's Symphony no.2 'Resurrection', arranged by Phillip Harper. This performance was recorded at the end of our appearance at the 2013 Norwegian National Championships, held at Grieg Hall, Bergen.

Without question. The finest band in the land. Intensely difficult piece to pull off. Bravo.

I think they may have been using practice mutes haha! That was so ridiculously quiet I could barely even hear it.

The sense of anticipation when the mutes come out, and you know that controlled blaze of brass is about to be unleashed. Headphones set loud……

A whole lot of marimba hate going on. I thought it was worked very well into the arrangement and covered the relative part very well. Bravi everyone, Bravi~

I agree the marimba was a good idea by the composer to cover the string parts. It would have just been better with softer, warmer mallets. The hard mallets didn't resemble strings well.

This performance aptly illustrates the power of the brass band medium if you consider the numbers a symphonic orchestra has to raise to get this staged!

Why an orchestra is always better. kzbin.info/www/bejne/novdd6WrhqiinK8. Listening to that recording performance wise and standard of playing, as well as the overpowering quality of music demonstrates the difference betweem brass bands and orchestras.

+joshua palmer Standard of playing in top brass band is as good as it gets. One is not better than the other just different.

+Terry Lovell Absolutely. The standard of playing and musicianship in top bands is the equal of professional musicians anywhere.

Lead trumpet vibrato is interesting. Sometimes it works well. Sometimes it sticks out a bit.

I've noticed that happening a few times with the Cory Band, I wonder if the player is aiming at the microphone or if the conductor just can't hear it. It was a big problem with their performance of "On the Shoulder of Giants".

As always, fantastic superb playing but this is music absolutely not suited for brass band. It can't keep up with the tension and sound of a big symphony orchestra with choir.

Absolutely ruined by the marimba.
@CalebMartinPercussion
@CalebMartinPercussion 5 жыл бұрын
all of the percussion was garbage. the marimba for one, should of been written down the octave, and the player was beating the crap out of the instrument. Second, the guy playing chimes either can't keep tempo, or can't see and hear because he was wayyy off tempo. Third, the guy playing gong/tam had horrible rolls... the list goes on forever.

@@CalebMartinPercussion its written in the original score for the chimes to be half note triplets. which can give the illusion that its not in tempo
