I am still firm in the belief that Mobius came out too soon. Most people at the time of its release didn't have a good enough phone to run it. But its battle system, story, visual style and cutscenes were all things of quality. In todays climate of things like Genshin Impact being somewhat standard now in mobile, Mobius would have been so much healthier if it had come out around 4 years later. For one, the average person would have been able to play it. Most people I knew downloaded it, saw the opening install patch size, and said no. Those who let the install finish often found it ran terribly on their device.

@Rotschwinge2 ай бұрын
Never installed it, so I can't tell whether technical limitations were a reason, but I played FFBE and it seemed like the community was interested in that game more. There were also a lot of competitors in the market like COC, FE, probably even hearthstone and the like. So the game did not stand out and the market was quite saturated. Why play Mobius when all the other demand you to play 24/7? I never understood the decision to release two FF games that close to each other. I think the game just got cannibalised by its more succesful brothers.
@BoggieVO2 ай бұрын
@Rotschwinge It's possible, but their gameplay styles are inherently different enough to attract different people. One element FFBE definitely had more of that Mobius did not was crossover appeal. Mobius had crossovers, but for the most part you played as characters from Mobius. The gacha was for new moves and jobs to play as rather than new characters. (It had like, 8 crossover characters, but like 80 crossover jobs) Though to the point, almost every smartphone, including trash ones of the time could run FFBE because of its simple engine. Mobius was essentially a ps3 game, and had a steam port of to make it's graphics even higher fidelity. At that time most people's devices weren't up to snuff for running console quality graphics on mobile.

Square's biggest lesson that they still haven't learned: STOP MAKING MOBILE GAMES. It's not that mobile games can't be good. They specifically can't make good ones. Every worst choice that can be made for the mobile sector in Square is implemented.

First Soldier was *insanely* fun to play when it worked. Customizing your character, helicoptor, jeep/motorcycle, AND guns was really fun. The ranked play was great and the maps were *gigantic*. Diving into abandoned houses and buildings for loot and flying through Midgar on your bike felt amazing even on the phone, and in those quiet moments where you were just hunting down players was so slick. Like, clearly the devs knew what they wanted to implement and there were SO many cool things you could do with character classes and spells, like using a Gravity to slow down your enemy or using Aero to make a wind boost and get up super high for a sniper perch someone hadn't yet thought of. One of the best phone games I've played. Leveling up each class and having them come with different abilities and melee weapons made it like you were inventing your own Apex character. If felt cool as hell, for example, being a Dragoon with the 'High Jump' ability, finding a sniper rifle, then leaping to a high vantage point. And then came the cash shop, which was the most... flabbergasting thing I've ever seen. You had to pull for each piece of armor and they were separated by gender so if you played a M avatar and you really wanted Cloud's outfit, you had better hope you got Clouds Male outfit and not the female one or vice versa. The gatcha was really difficult and it didn't help that the mobile-only game didn't expand it at all. What sucks is the -fashion- in the game, your weapons and armor, were really cool futuristic neo-tokyo like designs, colorful cyberpunk looks, as well as recognizable FF series armor and weapons. I got so fed up with bots and really, REALLY terrible gatcha systems that I quit before EOS. But -seriously- there was a game there. I know they wont, but if Square Enix ported the game to PC / Consoles and touched it up a bit or reflected it with a different IP (for whatever reason), that game would be hot as hell. I think about it all the time and wish there was something else like it, even if it wasn't an FF game. Honestly, with the amount of mobiles that SE closed over the course of a year, IDK what their plans are. Even if a game makes little profit, SE seems to throw out the entire IP and not learn from the bits that didn't work, or even the ones that really did work. It's a shame. First Soldier could have been wild on Steam.

You could never fully max out any character unless you got like 8 of them. Then there was how to perfect the weapons and the summons, and the job boards, and getting all the jewels to level up the job that made you use up the limited stamina etc. The game being a free to play mobile game made it less fun cuz it was those weird predatory practices that actively made too much of the game a drag. Then, what it did mostly was split the successful team of ffbe into 2 games, meaning, instead of keeping one great game such as ffbe, they tried to keep up with 2 games at the same time. What could go wrong? Well ffbe global shut down last month and I hope I'm not too pessimistic but I feel that Wotv won't be here much longer, it's a bit unfair but the ffbe player base, which is easily one of the best player bases I have ever seen, holds a bit of a grudge to Wotv because it was basically the beginning of the decline of ffbe quality content. Other than that, ff2 really? That's one of my favourites...
@maximetauran34152 ай бұрын
At first Wotv was amazing, with some bad points sure but it was getting better. But after a year they made an already complicated gameplay even more complicated and I really disliked the focus on mono elemental team composition. At some point, playing that game became exhausting so I left. I tried it again not long ago and I could not understand anything. And it is sad because as you said that game had everything to be the best but it suffered from a series of bad decisions and at this point, I don't think it can recover.
@bonkers8842 ай бұрын
@maximetauran3415 I never played wotv so I can't really tell but I played ffbe for many years and I heard about wotv a lot. The problems you said about wotv also happened with ffbe, when they started making units to focus on a single element when at the same time keeping an unhealthy pace with their power creep is when most people started slowly quitting the game. It's sad because the story was really good and the gameplay was nothing like I've seen on a mobile game. But that's what happens when the main focus from the developers is greed instead of maintaining success

I think the decline was way earlier ( started in the first month), remember how many Gungnirs were raised before. I got excited to see that such a game was announced, unfortunately never made it back, nor do I have the time or will to play another gacha. I am still of course sad about the EoS - the FFBE community is easily the best gaming commuity I ever was part of.

Dissidia NT was a travesty and an absolute let down. Nothing can compare to the sadness I felt when I finally played it and realized it was nothing like Duodecim. It was pretty, but the gameplay was absolutely gutted. A mere shell of what it had been, and not worth the trouble anymore. FF7: The First Soldier was a great game, and I played it religiously from the day I got into the beta until they shut it down. I think SE really messed up by leaving it only playable on mobile devices, as it would have been great on the Switch, at minimum. Character customization was cool, the class system worked well and the guns/spells/abilities were great! If I could do something to bring the game back I would. My YT channel has a bunch of First Soldier videos on it, and its a game I seriously miss.

I really loved Mobius, the story and gameplay were so good, apart from the drop rate on the gacha. Part 2 was even better with better job cards. I had all ultimate heroes and farmed most summon ability cards. I spent days and hours doing challenges and farming cards for long times. I would say it's not a bad game, at least according to my experience. The collab events were awesome too. I even had like 1k stamina potions left because you don't really need to use them unless you're playing for the whole day everyday. Very fond memories until it shut down. :( I'd say the horrible marketing was part of its downfall cuz I only found the game by chance. For Dissidia NT, I think the arcade thing along with simplifying movesets made the game very bad. Most of the game time was spent chasing enemies because the stages were way too wide and too chaotic with too many players. I'd love to see the psp version but remade.

Anyone who buys into the Mobile FF games at this point deserve the loss of money. I swear they've shutdown as many games as they've made at this point. And yes, what NT did after dissidia duo decim managed was absolutely galling. Duodecim is legitmately good enough to be the only reason to own a PSP, NT could have just been duodecim, with more characters and a 3v3 mode, but they made all the characters shadows of what they where and it didn't have any of the fun elements.

I guess Explorer and CB are more so a question of taste in Gameplay where they are not top dogs either by any mean but FFII is actually quite good and has been made better with the newer iterations of it through time. It really feels like it's just the effect of an echo chamber where it is okay to just bash FFII because it is somewhat an underlying truth within the community.

Dissidia NT disappointed me greatly as they took what we enjoyed from Dissidia/Duodecim and threw it away. They left us with a flat storyline, no customization, and a combat system that no active player of the PSP games asked for. All we wanted was PSP Dissidia, but on console with an expanded roster and online play, that's it, and they screwed that up. It took me playing Stranger of Paradise to actively forgive Team Ninja for the damage they did to Dissidia.

I liked the IDEA of DFFNT's story: characters retain their memories of previousl conflicts and absolutely DON'T want to go through that again and work together, even with the villains, to go back home? Sign me up! The fact that the characters were actually written IN CHARACTER compared to the previous games (Terra and Cloud especially) was a plus. The problem is that Dissidia NT was not supposed to be a story-focused game, and it shows. The original idea was clearly for it to be a mindless arcade game, and they had to add some semblance of a story for a console release that was probably not taken into account.

It took me over a year to finish it without a guide, simply because I didn't know where to find the bottle. FFII is significantly more linear and grindy by comparison, but it has a better story and is a lot closer to FFIV than you'd think at first glance. The staff who did FFIV obviously took some inspiration from it.

And as far as Mobius, well as a hardcore FF10 fan I was dragged into playing that game once I heard about the FF10 crossover storyline which was written to be officially canon to both FFX and FFX-2 and honestly I think those collaborations help bring many of FF fans who don’t like mobile games into Mobius as I know many fans who play it for the crossover collaborations

Hadn't played FFII until this year, and my biggest problem with it is that the world and dungeon designs are obsessed with random encounters. Most dungeons have a guess-the-door mechanic where there will be 2-5 doors and only one of them will let you progress, and if you guess wrong you end up in the middle of an empty room and usually face an encounter trying to leave. As far as I know there's no way to know which door is the right one without trial and error, so it wastes time and feels bad. The world is gigantic and mostly empty, so it takes a long time to get anywhere, thus leading to even more encounters. It's just not as much of a crafted experience as the rest of the series, but it's still not nearly as bad as its reputation.

Like we only hear and see so much of the brothers' relationships! And considering how both games have a hero and villain brother duo, it would be super interesting and could expand upon what you see in their respective games! Let's see how Golbez used to work under Zemus' control or find out how Gabranth became a Judge Magister, and how they all lived as children! So much to do with these guys, but nahhhh, let's go back to Cloud and Sephiroth because they're the Best Boys and EVERYONE LOVES THEM~~~~~ Honestly I'd love games where you could play as the villain as well. I know Stranger in Paradise is one, but tbh...I want one that's more accessible and also not as gory. I couldn't go through the first cutscene without feeling sick. I wanted a Garland story, but that was...Too much. I never went back to that game's scenes, and I was merely watching them on YT due to not having a console to play the game.

It wasn't really good though. It was a massive disappointment. But it's one of the few experiments SE has tried I wish they would give another shot with more budget. The premise was so cool but implementation was painful.

The “Golden Age” of any franchise always starts at the point the person who’s telling you about it got into the franchise and ends at the point they personally fell out of love with it.

Personally, I binged like the whole series in a random order. I'd say the Golden Age was III through VII, and IX. XI and XII are great too, just not AS good.
