The improvements REALLY help the experience, especially being able to fast forward combat. The first few hours were pretty slow and it took some time to click, after that it's just like I remembered. Also, the story reminds me of Star Wars which is cool. I'm around 25 hours in now.

Yeah I'm loving the x4 speed. At first I didn't I'd ever use it since nornally that would take away from the experience for me but using it to grind is extremely useful. I'm looking forward to controlling Espers, that's going to be pretty great and gives me a reason to try and get them all this time, I didn't care much about 'em with the original release because of how they just cut the traditional summons out and turned them into Airships..I was really disappointed when I found out Bahamut was a ship in this one

Henne Mines has a room in the completely optional part of the dungeon where you flip a switch and a bunch of high-level bats come down (like the similar room during the story). Using that to level doesn't take too long to get 99 even without any speedup. If you really want to go all out in IZJS, then you can start over after beating the story with everyone at level 90, which takes most of the grinding out of it considering you'll level at least a few more times from all of the content while playing through again.

Trust me with what you can do with guest characters now They're OP compared to potion throwers. You legit have a fourth party member. you can modify their gambits anyway you see fit. The only limtiation is you can't change their equipment, they even level up with you.

Final Fantasy XII was probably my favourite game on the PS2, and certainly my favourite of the series (followed by FF8 and FF10). These changes sound absolutely fantastic -- I'm hyped just for "weak mode", after watching a few really impressive low-level playthroughs of the original game and being blown away. When I played it on the PS2, I levelled up as quickly as possible, even abusing the jelly/stone trick in the Henne mines to get the party to around level 90 automatically, then found most fights too easy (of course) after that... so "weak mode" seems like a great idea to remind people that tough challenges can be gratifying.

I've just got around to playing FF12 Zodiac Age and so far I like the changes. I also forgot how much I loved the world of Ivalice. I genuinely think it's among the best final fantasy worlds in the series. It's immersive and still my favourite to explore. My biggest issues with the original were aspects of the narrative that could have been expanded further and although I like the battle system, I wish some attacks felt more impactful from a visual perspective, but that said I still enjoy it. I'm looking forward to making Yiazamat and Omega my bitches again after a decade or so

That was my biggest problem with FF13, having played through 12 multiple times and grown to love the gambit system, 13 took away my control over other 2 chars and only allowed me to play 1 char and it had no way to program them the way I could in 12 using the gambits, it was dumbed down to oblivion compared to 12 and I really hated it.

It might be a small thing overall, but the voice audio on the original used to really bug me, so I'm glad they're fixing that. The job stuff sounds great, and the speed-up will be nice when trying to get the enemy combo high. I really enjoyed the original FFXII license board because you can learn anything for each and everyone. I know it can be a bit overwhelming and aimless at first, especially the gameplay elements where there's nothing much but attack and long sequence, but the ramp up was so satisfying and midgame is so amazing when you have so much unlocked and the gambit works how you want. it keeps getting a lot better. I feel the zodiac system would be too restrictive because you will designate select set to a character.

I have to agree. I grew up with IV and VI, so I was picky with FFXII's battle system, but when I revisited it many years later, I find it to be the best use of the ATB mechanic.

I love the original and had two very different teams that I used enemy dependent. I am a little worried about the job classes although I have used them in past FF games I was able to 100% FF12 with my line ups and picked gambits, my concern is that the job system might lock me out of my comfort zone (which I know they want but my time is vastly limited to what it was when it first came out). I am still going to get the remaster but think I will most likely stick with my ps2 version

Trial mode 100 with the Judges was no joke. I had all my characters level 99 AND the Seitengrat and still struggled. Definitely see how grinding and exploring for multiple end games weapons is a worthwhile pursuit

Re: Mist Charges. So... in game design, it is particularly hard to actually convince people to use their limited resources. You've probably heard stories about people who, for example, don't use elixirs in Final Fantasy games. The same thing is often true of MP as well. Why spend MP when you can take something out free of cost? What if you need MP later? What if you need to heal really soon? What if you run out? There are so many ways that a resource system can cripple a game, even an RPG where they're normally expected. Due to the way quickenings worked, use of a quickening would almost entirely drain MP. Even though I could regenerate it just by attacking, there was no reason for me to use them. I actually deliberately avoided the use of quickenings entirely just because I might need to shoot down a bird with magic or something. At the same time... you don't want to just give the player unlimited special moves. A game designer I know, I'll paraphrase as saying that, "It is most narratively appropriate to build up to your big finishing move." As much fun as the idea of unlimited quickenings is, you have to admit that it would probably make the game boring. So... instead, you have to fill a meter dedicated solely to quickenings by performing actions in battle. This means there's always enough of a break between each use of your special move that it feels more special each time you use it. Sure, it's technically a resource, but there are no other things that it can possibly be spent on. You might want to save it for a big encounter, but doesn't that mean the system worked? You saved your big special move for the climactic encounter and had a really big moment. Basically, in summary, I think the reason for the mist charge change has to do with just lightening the pressure on player resources. It's meant to encourage the use of quickenings while still trying to keep them feeling special.

Quickenings based on mp was always a gamble. Either you chain your quickenings enough to one shot a boss, or you're entire team is entirely drained of mp and are now crippled for the remainder of the fight. Personally, I found the mp based quickenings to be a garbage system that only served to make using your ultimate moves a strategically bad move.

The original version of FF12 had 16:9 widescreen, but you also had to set your PS2's settings to widescreen to get the full effect and I think it just stretched everything.

Dw7freak yep! I remember because I had a widescreen LCD in 2006 and was SO stoked I could take advantage of the real estate. It was blurry, yeah, but the proportions were correct. Obviously the PS4 version does it right :D

Reason for 4x speed was because the grind to level up takes a long time and because some of the optional bosses from the hunts have so much health especially the hardest boss Yiazmat with 50M health and hits very hard towards the end.

I loved the changes to the license board. It doesn't feel like an "RPG" when you take out the "RP"....then all you have left is a "game" lol. Original license board killed any uniqueness and honestly made all the characters feel OP imo.

ReignOfCurtis If you want to roleplay you can, just give them roles and use them for those roles but you don't seem to want the choice to be able to do so Somehow finding a reason for why you can't equip anything not even a hat without the license for it and why some of the most simple gambits still have to be learned however..

So what I got out of this video was that they took FFXII, already one of the greatest games they ever made, made an international version of it with improvements, and then turned around and remastered said improved version into an even BETTER better version. Essentially, they've created the greatest Final Fantasy title ever.

I can happily say I watched all of it! [pats back then pats narrator's back] Thank you for all the wonderful information about Zodiac Age. I am looking most forward to the various modes of play as well as finally getting a reason other than complete fever for the bestiary. I mostly only did it because I wanted ALL the Lore that you earned for defeating the required number of enemies. I am looking very forward to this game. It would be nice though to see a video that goes more into depth about the job classes and how they affect equipment, abilities, and statistics within the FFXII ZA game.

I'm sad they make you choose a job now, when I played on my ps2 back in the day I made Ash the healer, Fran and was my tank. I think if they really wanted to fix something about 12, it should have been a bit of the storyline (and Vaans abs) everything else: the characters, scenes, music, etc. were amazing!

Agreed about job restrictions. Choosing a job killed my interest in this version. I finished everyone's boards and was able to change my crew whenever I wanted and how I wanted in the original version.

I kind of wish the job system was optional - I always developed all my characters super differently anyway, and I loved the freedom of the license board, and constructing my own unique characters. But I appreciate and respect Ito's vision, still super hyped for this (: I love the idea of job combo's as well, that was always one of my favourite features!
