It is one of my favorite stories of all time, but I wouldn't be able to say it is my number one, my top five is suikoden 3, nier automata, final fantasy 10, suikoden 2, and metal gear solid 3. All five being very close in the running. If final fantasy 10 is your favorite I recommend trying one of these other 4, I think you will probably really enjoy them.😃

Will forever be my favorite game of all times 22 years have passed by and nothing that came before or after made me feel anything near the rollercoaster of emotions i felt when i played FFX for the first time it got to the point where i have only replayed it a handful of times despite me replaying games constantly because i realized i don't need to i can replay the game whenever i want everything from the music of each moment of each scene to the tone the voice actors were using in X i can remember it and relive it by just thinking about it I REALLY LOVE THIS GAME!

It took a very long time for me to realize Tidus wasnt actually transported to the future. Ive beaten the game multiple times and I know they outright say it but in my mind i thought Dream Zanarkand was being created the moment Tidus landed "in the future"

Well we learn that Jecht/Sin was how Auron was able to go to Dream Zanarkand and back. A lot of people seem to get thrown off seemingly fighting there during the final battles, but it's really just the few broken remaining memories Jecht still has and not DZ. Also I'm glad it was finally mentioned that Sin actively protects DZ as a physical location, attacking sea-faring peoples and those advancing technology to potentially discover it. It gives Sin actual motive besides just being evil. Perhaps in canon, Sin (as Jecht) allowed us to fly around on the Fahrenheit as long as we didn't approach DZ and perhaps why Baaj was hidden on the map.

I love, love, LOVE the fayth statue/painting(?) that is used for each separate summon. Those are so damn cool! I’m referring to the things on the floor that incorporates parts of the person who became the fayth and parts of the summon they would come to represent. I’m really happy that summons, as a class of being, are becoming more and more integral to the actual story, rather than just flashy magic attacks like how they began. I think 6 was the first to do this? I could be wrong lol

Dream Zanarkand was on the same plane as Spira?! Sin was the Guardian?!? I never ever knew this! That is so cool!

I absolutely disagree with that. It has somehow become an article of faith among FFX fans, maybe from something in the Ultimania (which I have not read). I will maintain to my dying breath that dream zanarkand is, well, a DREAM, that is has no physical existence anywhere on Spira, much less near Baaj. It's like Cities:Skyline on steroids played out in the virtual space of the Farplane. The fayth Scar is the hardware, the memories of the 100's of encased souls are the data ROMS (imperishable and unchanging because encased in stone), with Yevon's summoning spell being the game engine. Yevon needs energy to keep the casting going, and once he first took over Sin (shortly after Sin was summoned), he had a renewable energy source...the aeons (and Final Aeons) fed to Sin in the name of putting Sin down! Yunalesca loved her father, and did his bidding to perpetuate his grand scheme. She knew what would happen to her husband when she made him into the first Final Aeon, a deep betrayal that marked her soul in ways not apparent until Yuna drew out her final medusa-esque form a thousand years later! Thus the cycle began.

@@enoyna1001 Whoa, where and when does Dream Zanarkand EVER directly interact with the surface world, in-game? I'll tell you right now: NEVER. Tidus's brief return at the Fayth Scar was in spirit only, his unconscious Spiran body left behind (much to the concern of the party!). *Aeons are not dreams,* they are summoned manifestations with specific defined (and temporary) forms. A more valid comparison would be Tidus vs. unsent such as Seymour or Auron, who built bodies for themselves from pyreflies via sheer willpower. Tidus's Spiran body was _built for him_ using Sin's power when Auron came to DZ. The FAYTHS are the dreamers, having been immortalized but with little to do when not granting (or refusing) aeons to prospective summoners. Or, if part of the Fayth Scar, dreaming of Zanarkand-that-Was. Don't confuse your beer or gin with the glass you drink it in.

I call bullshit on DZ being physical because if it were ANYWHERE on the surface, it would be found. Exploring Al Bhed would find it. You can't hide the lights and noise of something the size of New York City, of SIngapore, of Dubai. LOOK at dream Zanarkand, with the giant water arches! THOSE would be visible over the horizon long before the city itself! Rippling and moving _the wrong way_ with respect to the rest of the ocean, THAT would catch a sailor's attention! Sound travels surprising distances, especially over quiet oceans at night, and Spira's oceans are VERY quiet!

@@xheralt Sin (Jecht) interacts with/attacks DZ literally in the beginning of the game and later Spira which would suggest it's both real. You seem to be stuck in your very first playthrough regarding your explanations, go read the FF wiki or something. There's no point trying to convince you what's truly happening in the game.

I got into again few weeks ago and saw I only needed 2 more trophies. I was like why haven’t I platinum it yet. The 2 remaining was sphere master and filling out the whole sphere grid with everyone… I was like that why lol. But I finally accomplished it few days ago. Love the game don’t miss the grind.

After watching others play FFX since its release on PC I've grown to appreciate it far more than in my own playthroughs. It's a work with a stellar understanding of its own themes and so thoroughly builds the whole world and its characters around them in a way that I've rarely seen accomplished outside of it and FFXIV. Greatly enjoyed the video, the fluid structure - outside of simply being nice to listen to - I think it better expresses that interconnectedness FFX did so well.

When I first played FFX on my PS2 back in the day, I was so freaking impressed by everything it offered. Then I gave up around getting Rikku in the party because the Sphere Grid made me so mad as a kid. Now I wish I could replay it, not the Remastered versions, the OG. I still have my PS2 Copy, but no PS2.

Possibly the original home of Bahamut? Leviathan is conspicuously missing in a magic system that otherwise balances opposed pairs of elements (fire, ice, lightning, water) instead of the usual FF rock-paper-scissors arrangement of three (fire, ice, lightning), where water is an oddball/rare element, as with wind. We see the literal ghost of Leviathan as Evrae Eternae, and Bevelle strongly features water in its architecture design, so what if Bevelle was the original home of Leviathan, replaced by Bahamut after whatever happened to make Leviathan unusable? Having an aeon would be necessary to maintain their central position in the pilgrimage.

@@xheralt Leviathan doesn’t exist in the lore of FFX because Sins design is based on the biblical myth of Leviathan appearing as a sort of devil whale. Hence it’s affiliation to water and Bevelle (a city on the water) being the stronghold of the Yevon cult.

@@kjh4496 NO. Just...no. Leviathan doesn't exist because of production deadlines that precluded its inclusion. As noted before the games magic system otherwise very carefully balances fire versus ice and lightning versus water in enemy elemental affiliation and usage. It being a "devil whale" didn't inhibit it from appearing in other titles. Ifrit has the classic appearance of a demon, and due to being an Arabic godlet is often considered as such. Valefor, I've discovered (courtesy of Shadow Hearts: Covenant) is the name of a demon of the Bastion of Riches. Leviathan has a strong secular meaning of simply being anything very large. Hence, demonic associations with the name did not cause exclusion.

@@xheralt Everything you just said is nonsense. There were no plans for Leviathan to be in the game ever. Sin already has the image of the myth of Leviathan and occupies the ocean. Also Aeons are not guardians of the temples they are in or the region they occupy based on their elemental affinity , they have no physical manifestations outside of being summoned as they are made of pyreflies.

One thing I've always wondered about FFX - when Braska and Jecht die for the final summoning, do they die then and there in Zanarkand, or did Yunalesca turn Jecht into an aeon, then Auron and Braska walked back to the calm lands to fight sin? Also, is every iteration of Sin the same. In FFX it is a big massive whale thing, but previous versions could've possibly been different

I don't know if this is true but I just realized that when you run away after fighting Seymour the first time and the Wendigo, under the temple you are actually on top of Sin as the broken down buildings on Sin are there and the rock formation is similar to Sin's fins. In the scene the lake is huge and sin is floating there and notice the other character didn't drown. BUUUUUUUT I could be wrong.

20 years ago I thought the FMVs of FFX were as good as 3D graphics could EVER look. 20 years later, even cell phone games can make those FMVs look primitive. But what HASN'T changed is that FFX is a damn good RPG. Blitzball, summons that you can control, an amazing story, flashy ultimate moves for every character (even the temporary guest character!), deep "post final boss" content... the list of good things just go on and on.

I always assumed that Yojimbo was the original Fayth of Baaj Temple before it was stolen and taken to the Cavern. It obviously had to have come from somewhere and the fuu dog statues at Baaj invoke the imagery of Yojimbo's dog. With the Fayth gone, it allowed Seymour to stick Anima's Fayth there.

Fantastic video! The deep-seeded lore is probably one of the reasons I liked FFX, in spite of its numerous flaws. Same goes with FFXI where they spent something like 3 years developing the world and history before even writing for it. I'd love to see a lore video covering all of that.
