Just wanted to add a little bit of my experience. I had a GTX 980ti and overclocked it with a AIO and was getting great performance, in some instances I was getting the same results as a GTX 1080 reference model. BUT as a heavy gamer (meaning about 8 hours playing games a day) the VRMs on 980ti started dyeing even tho the tepms and voltages were below maximum spec. So it died once, I repaired it, died again, I repaired it and finally the third time it blew up taking the most of PCB below VRMs with it so.. no more 980ti. This was long ago, I also did some benchmarks on my little channel but I am happy with a venerable RX 580 nowadays still..

@@hindel6141 ahh I see. Reference 980ti has 6 phase VRM iirc, push it too hard and it'll start to heat up. Let's be real, when loaded with a power unlimited bios the 980ti can easily gobble up 500W of power, RMS not peak power. At least my 980ti Xtreme did, it has 12 phase VRM though so I'm never really worried.

I've mainly played GW2 for the last 2 years. All the Elder Scrolls releases and prior to GW2 I played WoW for 12 years. I went from a PG279, a really nice 27", to a Hisense 4k 55U8G (which is a bloody amazing TV), and my ROG is back in it's box. My EVGA 1080Ti FTW3 didn't have any issues running my 4K TV. Granted, several eye candy sliders were not maxed, but it was tough to tell when playing the game versus standing still and just looking at shadows etc. I managed to get a PowerColor 7900XTX at msrp and that GPU allows all the eye candy. My opinions on RT and its' performance hit and dollar cost is unprintable. The nicest thing I can print is: for all of you who bought into the marketing....Billionaire Jensen thanks you. A ton of work presented and thank you for doing it.

The real winners were those that bought used 2080Tis off the back of the 3070 and 3080 announcements. To be clear, if you bought a 2080Ti new I think it was one of the worst value propositions… 30-40% better raster over 1080Ti for +60% cost, no RTX titles or DLSS1 for ages. If you bought and held a 2080Ti you can feel a little better about the purchase, but yeah, those used buyers at the $500 USD mark like 2 years ago … wow!

True...the only thing I am hoping for is getting close to 4090 (within 10-15%) performance below the 1000€ mark. But I bet you that nVidia will give us this level of performance at 1000-1100€ in the 5070 Ti which will have only 16 GB of VRAM which at that point (2024) will probably be the bare minimum for the highest settings.

The RTX 4090 is that GTX 1080ti all over again with how long its longevity will be . We don't get those every generation, people thought we would never see another GTX 1080ti performer BUT it's right here in the RTX 4090
@introvertplays6162

@@bigdaddyt150 But you ignroe one key component why the 1080 Ti was so great...the price at the time...750€ was a banger for that performance...they ask twice as much for basically the same tier of GPU (They can keep on lying all they want by creating the 90 class tier...it is basically 80 Ti tier). Only extreme hobbyists will shove out 1000+€ even if it is double as fast as the 80 tier, which is also over 1000€. This is pure insanity, I hope nVidia will learn a harsh lesson...they can demand what they want for the flag ship...but make everything else affordable, or crash and burn...I think the only other GPU that sells besides the 4090 right now is the 4070 Ti. And that is expensive too.

@Introvert Plays I agree with you BUT we are NOT in the economy of 2017 . Everything has gone up. Not sure why people can't accept that over time inflation drives up prices not only for the consumer BUT manufacturering of goods . Now has it gone up to where Nvida should be charging $1500 for a Graphics card probably NOT BUT we both know over time EVERYTHING goes up . Don't expect new products at yesterday's prices thats unrealistic when everything else around you have inflated as well

1080ti to a 2080ti is that of a 3090 to a 4090. the 5090 will repeat the 2080ti to 3090 increase. Then ghe 6090 will blow the water and truely utilise pcie 5.0 interface (the 5090 will most likely include it but not fully make use of it) and have playable path tracing experience

I know you hate AMD these past months, but can you do the same overview for 290x, Fury, Vega 64, 5700xt/Radeon VII, 6900 xt to 7900 xtx? I find the difference between the 6700XT and 2080ti in your video interesting. My own experience and looking at other benchmarkers the difference shouldn't be as big as you found. I would estimate the 2080ti to be about 7-9% faster than the 6700xt, it looks the gap is much wider in your tests? Maybe it is your particular game selection (I like that your selection differs a little from the rest btw)?

Watched the livestream and it was awesome, once again Chris 🥰😇💪👍. I remember seeing a good ~42% (or higher in sone titles) boost in fps going to my 2080Ti over my 1080Ti and people thought it wasn’t possible. Validation 💪🤯🥳! Tbh I feel the RTX4090 is, despite it high price, a vg performing GPU for gaming and production for me (starting to FAFO around with DiVinci Resolve). I think we’re going to see a smaller boost in raw performance w/ the 5090 and more push of Path Tracing imo, which you also mentioned in your Podcast w/ Paul recently 😇☺)

Higher power limit vbios without any shunt mods but water-cooled for holding boost (377watts example) range between 2115-2175Mhz (good to great OC at 4K) but they can top 2190-2205Mhz in rare cases but that's more shunt territory.

Your 1070 must've been bare bones stock and the 980ti must've been the best you can get. Because 1070 is just as fast as 980ti, faster in many games. Doesn't overclock as good, but it's not 10% slower.

No the 980 ti was a awsome ocer even at launch a oc'd 980 ti compared to a oc'd 1070 the 980ti was faster. A oc'd 1080and 1070 ti however was faster than a oc'd 980 ti. The gap between the 1070 and 1080 is a bit bigger than people remember. I was usally pulling about a 20% increase core out of the 980 ti's and ~2000-2100mhz core out of the pascal chips. Considering that its about 10% at 1080p that sounds about right v56 was also definitely faster than a 1070. I've benched 5 980 ti's and 4 1070's and 3 1070 ti's The 980 ti is definitely a power hog though.

@@andrewmcewan9145 True...I was shocked though that I could reach 1080 stock performance if not even 5% more with my Vega 56 on a V64 BIOS and with memory timing tweaks. And the best thing: In titles that need more than 8GB VRAM I can activate the HBCC (High Bandwidth Cash Controller)-feature and give it 16 GB of my system memory to use as VRAM (I have 64 GB) and suddenly they are playable. A pretty good example was Resident Evil 4 where I went from complete stutters and texture loading issues to fully playable performance with VRR. It is an insane feature that only now can give you probably a few more years out of the GPU if you can´t or won´t afford to upgrade. I think there is even a video on YT where a guy shows the HBCC off. It is just amazing. The GPUs of that era were just a lot more exciting.

@@introvertplays6162 I missed out on vega. I was really looking to upgrade from my r9 nano. I almost worked out a good trade for a v56 but the other party backed out. The deals between the 2013 mining crash and 2018 mining boom where insane. I picked up my r9 290 in 2014 and r9 nano in 2016 for ~$200 cad both provideding essentially flagship performance at the time. It took me till 2022 to actually buy another gpu for myself and that was a 1070 ti for vr because of hdmi 2.0 and more vram for $300 cad. (compared to my nano that I had for 6 years at that point this was rough to buy) vegas where still selling close to double that at the time. I have more trust with amd / the community as linux drivers are open source to keep the drivers functioning for a long time + vega is still bios modable for some easy tweaking fun! I'll have to look in to HBCC more as in theroy it should not be an needed feature and game cashing should just work although clearly it doesn't in every game. You can look at hw unboxed apu reviews where most games with an 1gb decicated frame buffer preform the same as on a 4+gb frame buffer. But some games just don't act right. EDIT: HBCC does change how system ram is accessed so may be real interesting wirh some fast ddr5. Ps almost all my friends with 1070's in that market lull 14 to 18 sold there 1070's bought 980ti's and made money on top of it.

@@andrewmcewan9145 I think mostly the PS4/5 ports will benefit from HBCC and other badly optimized titles (Not all PS ports are bad, but most of them). I have a feeling that the studios that do these ports have a RTX 4090 or 3090 (+ 64/128 GB Ram) at that time and program the games with these systems in mind and then dial the settings down a bit for other lower end systems, doing the bare minimum. They probably feel like PC gamers will get high end, because why else would you buy a PC if not for the best of the best. I saw a dev tweet this, but the tweet has been deleted ever since, because he got a lot of shit for saying this. He basically said that we should be greatful that Sony even ports games for PC now and if we want to play these games, we have to upgrade or buy a PS5. Comments like these make me mad and feel disrespected as a customer of these game companies.

at $1200 it wasn't the best value buy, The 1080ti was still good and a better buy for people who didn't buy that RTX tax but in 2020 when all these Idiots sold their 2080ti for 3070s or 3080s but then got shafted by the dang shortage. The people who got 2080ti's for $400 to $500 are the real winners and the 2080ti is aging probably as well if not better today then the 1080ti did 4-5 years after it's launch, For it once being $1200 you'd want it to age well if not way better then 1080ti, The 1080ti was more noteworthy due to it being $700.
