In the end all that matters is that it does what you need/want it to and is within your budget. 4090's are useless as are any other cards over that $500 price point. The extra just isn't justified for the little you gain. 70 series Nvidia, 770 series from Intel and x700 series from AMD are all gamers need. Everything else is just window dressing and immature bragging ammo.

@animalyze7120 I only got it because I compared it to the recommended specs that the games I play asked for. The Casting Of Frank Stone and Directive 8020 both ask for either NVidia 3070 or AMD 6800 for recommended specs. Do you think that was the right choice?

Yep a fool and their money soon separated. If you are paying 2x's the cost of the previous series you should be getting 2x's the performance but you are not, more like 20-25% gains for the extra money. 80 series and 90 series are sold to gamers but the prices don't justify the lack of performance over the 70 series. I though about upgrading my 5700 XT for a couple of months and none of the new GPUs were good value in my eyes. I live in Europe so most 7800 XTs were 500-600 euros and anything better had crazy pricing. So I decided to find a used card and were looking mostly at 6900/6950XTs because they still pack a punch. Found the cheapest one in Europe for 450 euros and it was working, but someone had used their computer as a vacuum cleaner and it was full of caked on dust. After spending 2 hours disassembling it, replacing the thermal paste and mostly just cleaning it, I got it working perfectly. I couldn’t be happier. I got a 7900 XT equivalent for almost half the price.

I did it in 2022, well, not my first build by a long shot, but it's been a while. I got 7900X and 4090. 4090 because I was making the leap from 1440p to 4k, and I was kinda including 'far reaching' longevity in the price comparisons. It does what I want at 4k 'raw native/max', and I still have DLSS to fall back on. 7900X was mostly just because of a sale that was too good to pass up. Apart from an opportunistic sale, I would be torn between 7950X and 7800X3D (as I have mixed use). Really I needed newer mobo features even more than I needed a new cpu, so.. the 7900X at $350 with -$30 towards an AM5 mobo & 32GB of free 6000 ram is hard to regret. I have both very _slightly_ underclocked and very significantly undervolted. And the card very very securely mounted/supported, and cord in extra tight. 7800X3D & 7900XTX is probably smarter. You can probably bench very nearly as strong, with a cheaper build than mine. Granted the 7800X3D was just a rumor when I built mine and I do think the 4090 has strong odds on lasting an extra generation (in terms of back-loaded value). I could see myself replacing my 7900X cpu much sooner than the 4090. Was kinda thinking the 9800X3D, but the 9000 series seems like a flop. Seriously though, 7800X3D/7900XTX is a beastly combo, good pick!

The Sparkle Arc A770 with 16gb Vram is a solid $300 card. Currently you can get a 12600kf 16gb ram and a z790 MB with this card for $499 from microcenter, the deal is uneatable. A770 16gb plays everything at 1080 pretty much full out with no hiccups, and 2k is solid at High settings. The drivers are updated regularly and they dial everything in better with each update. Intel cards started rough but are now polished and rocking the $300 arena. If you are on a budget this Microcenter deal is well worth the investment and will perform super well.

Why? 16gb is nice, 12gb is nice but useless at this point. They show a performance increase because the extra Vram spreads it all a bit so some speed is gained but not enough to justify it. 16gb is good headroom now for future games but by that time newer gen cards will be faster anyways. 16gb now is like a 4090, pure bragging rights that no one cares about.

If you had a graphics card with more memory than 16GB, more VRAM would be reserved than necessary for the same display. The 4060 ti runs on a 128-bit bus. You only have 4 memory chips with 4GB each. The 3070 with 8GB VRAM 256-bit bus with 8 memory chips has better performance in WQHD. Basically, the 4060 ti is more like a 4050, but people who think more VRAM creates better performance don't understand how a graphics card works and why the 16GB version doesn't create any added value in gaming. I seriously hope that people don't buy the graphics card because it's actually a scam.

IMO, there is no reason for Nvidia to release a 5080 at current price point with more performance, nor 5090 when they make more money prioritizing b2b use cases. I wouldn't be surprised to see the higher end 5080/5090 go up over predecessors (significantly). Hope I'm wrong and we see AMD bring some competition above 7900 XTX. But I kind of just have a feeling we're going to see 5080 in between current 4080 super and 4090, and then 5090 close to $2k. But the 1440p panel was kinda falling apart... so... I have _reasonably_ high hopes the 4090 will last me till around 2030. Right now it does everything I want it to in raw-native 4k, with max settings - and I still have DLSS to fall back on. And can always actually back off of max settings hehe. I think, that with nvidia's marketing practices... if they release anything significantly better, they will charge significantly more. While you are technically right (if you are looking at this situation from a certain angle), it will not necessary end up like this. One of the most VRAM demanding setting is RT. 7900 XTX can run many games with RT now, but in the not so distant future it will not be able to do this. So you will actually need less VRAM, once you stop using RT. In 3-4 years even the owners of 4080 will be forced to stop using RT. And by that time 4K res will be out of question for both of these cards too. This means that VRAM requirements will go down again, since lower res needs less VRAM. Judging by how demanding modern games are in terms of raw GPU power, I really think it will become a bottleneck sooner than VRAM capacity, especially if we talking about 16GB buffer.

@stangamer1151
@stangamer1151 15 күн бұрын
@@Greenalex89 SW Outlaws is NOT essentially using 18-22GB. It is just allocating all the available VRAM on a card (this is how Snowdrop engine functions) More important is the fact that this and many other modern games are very demanding in terms of raw GPU power. 4080 is simply not fast enough to run SWO at 4K/maxed out, even with DLSS Quality. And when you reduce/disable some settings, VRAM requirement also lowers. Plus, yesterday's patch (v1.1.1) has already improved the game memory management. Now even 12GB cards do not struggle from texture pop-in issues at 1440p. So 16GB is definitely enough to run this game at 4K and reasonable quality settings. P. S. Judging by how demanding some recent games are, all 16GB cards will run out of compute power way before their VRAM buffers become an issue.

7900 GRE or 7800 xt or 4070 Super for the long run? (3 or 4 years without updating)

16gb vram from the amd cards might be better for the long term, but just depends on how much you can tolerate FSR if DLSS is not available like in wukong.

14:10 no its about DLSS and not Ray Tracing. The superior AMD card isnt going to cut it when FSR looks much worse compared to DLSS. On 1080p Im native so AMD is good but once you choose to buff performance with upscalers AMD is absolutely outclassed hence even the normal 4070 non Super is more attractive than a 7900 GRE. AMD is recommended up to the 7700 XT (Id still favor a 4060 Ti 16GB) and with the 7800 XT you should ignore AMD completely and go Nvidia only. The 7900 XTX is somehow interesting again because its the only AMD card which can go full RT and native because of raw power.

Just bought a 7900 xtx and its literally the best thing ive ever put in any pc. its quiet, it does exactly what i want it to, and its cheaper then 90% of the high end nvidia cards out there. Definitely moving away from nvidia cards and just sticking to AMD now. Nvidia bang for your buck is terrible overall and has been since the 6900 series on amd

if you're going to buy a 4060 you might as well just get a 3070, on the used market they're so cheap right now and still amazing performance compared to the 4060

GRE using 100w more than a 4070 is insanity. Use that for a few years and the difference buys you a brand new videocard.

Games usually reserve more VRAM when there is more VRAM available. With Horizon, with identical settings, you can see that more VRAM is reserved if there is available, but that doesn't mean that the application really needs more VRAM. With 128 bit on the 4060ti 16Gb, you shouldn't aim for WQHD gaming; even if it had 50GB VRAM, the 4070 super with 12GB VRAM would still be 50% faster. It's the same with RAM, if you install more, more is reserved, but it doesn't create any added value. With a low-end graphics card, performance doesn't improve just because you install 32 or 64GB of RAM. Unfortunately, I see with many ready-made PCs that the setups lure in customers with large numbers rather than offering a sensible setup.

People need to remember that 40 series pricing is awful and nvidia even switched the model numbers - eg 4070 is a 4060, 4060 is a 4050, 4080 is a 4070... So with that tactic in mind, new 4060, 4070, 4080 prices are rediculous and just greedily hiked up separate even compared to inflation increases. Only way to avoid being ripped off is to buy used.

Don't take this the wrong way but I hate all of these comparison videos that never run the cards with the settings I would use. It's always low FPS eye candy. If I'm running a budget midrange card, I'll never have the settings cranked. I'm targeting 100+ fps at 1440p so I'll drop all settings & only turn up what is necessary or that whitch isn't impactful to performance. This puts more load on the CPU & AMDs drivers tend to offer more headroom here but I can't tell how much because *NO ONE EVER TESTS IT!* This is a chance to differentiate yourself from what everybody else does.

14:16 Daniel hits the nail on the head: Nvidia's offerings go from meh to suckage below $500 precisely because they "win" at the high end, and Nvidia full well knows that some people will rather take a worse deal than accept "the sour smell of discount products" :P

@andersjjensen
@andersjjensen 28 күн бұрын
@@DingleBerryschnapps Yes it is that simple. It doesn't matter what you consider budget and what you consider midrange. Under $500 all Nvidia's offering plainly suck compared to AMD. Between $500 and $800 it becomes more of a personal preference thing, and above $800 AMD loses in most people's eyes. And that is why Nvidia "can afford" to suck under $500. Their "big wins" influence a lot of people who don't really keep up with tech developments.

Turning on raytracing when the card then delivers 33fps is a horrid idea. Completely unplayable game at that point. Same with 44fps on the opposite card. I doubt anyone would actually choose those settings. Raytracing would get switched off and the FPS would climb to a hopefully acceptable level for gaming. Not having the non RT option in the comparison seems a dubious choice as well.
