Awwww...(goes to return the pitchfork I borrowed) To be fair, the source engine did operate in Oregon for a while, as Oregon Pacific & Eastern 19. During this time is when it became known as "Shack's Train". So you technically didn't get the wrong state, even if it lived in California most of the time. But I really would like to see a good model of SVRy 19 in a train game sometime...hint hint. 😜

This is where the game really opens up. At this point, I have a switch engine in each yard, and a road freight that sets out all the cars. I’ve made it up to the mines past Bryson, so my eastbounds are now running 2500+tons loaded with ore and coal. Get a c-55 consolidation as soon as you can, it’s the only road engine you’ll need until you hit red marble! For my logs, I’ve given up switching, and I use 2 fixed sets, each with a mogul and 11 cars. At the start of my day, I’ve got 3 or 4 AI trains heading out of Whitter, and it look’s magnificent!

Getting to that coal mine really makes things interesting. I'm currently running my first double header out of Bryson towards Sylva. 46 cars / 2580 tons including locomotives. It's quite the step up from day 1.

I have been taking my sweet time expanding. Still in Bryson, but I am working towards more or less the same thing. One dedicated passenger line just running back and forth from Whittier to Bryson. 2 engine just alternating logging deliveries, one engine running freight wherever needed, and I just picked up another then wheeler to just shunt stuff as needed.

On what you mentioned of the 2nd Obs car, basically the game runs a check to see if anything was coupled to the rear of the couch. If something has, it loses the bonus for passengers on board. You used to could run a locomotive connected to the obs car, decouple, then brake the engine-less train at the station and still get the bonus, but to my knowledge that was patched out. You can still double end ob car to prevent needing to Y the whole train, but you will only get the one bonus from the car on the rear.

We use those new-fangled brakes at my local museum, but aside from tying down the entire train we also use chocks overnight. I think that comes from an over abundance of caution rather than actually being worried about the brakes not holding You should check your contracts to see if you can increase any, particularly in Bryson. That should net you more traffic

I just wanted to say I enjoy all your content. Especially when you all are sitting around the steamers in the shop shooting the shit. Particularly enjoy putting you guys on and listening while I'm playing DV or RO. Dont really have anyone to co-op the railroad games so listening to you all shoot the bull while playing is rather enjoyable while I'm slogging up a grade. Anyway keep up the content as its always a good listen.

What happens when you mix yellow and brown? Let's find out shall we? I think if they made most of the major menu items as hotbar items across the top of the screen, they would be trucking pretty good there. Then add options for the hotbars to allow users to 'always visible', 'visible when mouse in region', or 'always hidden'. Similar to Windows taskbar would work pretty well. They should also have a few basic hotbar buttons: 'accounting', 'track management', 'motion management', 'contracts', etc. All of those with filters for the data, something like: 'active/inactive', 'moving/stationary', 'available/unavailable', 'paid/awaiting payment', things of that nature.

The daily schedule for my railroad is a bit unique. The morning starts with the daily logging train coming down from Connelly and bringing pulpwood and log cars down to Whittier. While that train makes its way down, the daily mixed train picks up everything at the interchange at Sylva, stops at Sylva to load passengers, then dillsboro to load passengers and have the freight organized for drop offs. Freight going eastbound to dillsboro and Sylva await the switcher coming from the paperboard that drops off the empty pulpwood cars for the westbound mixed train to take to Whittier. Mixed freight continues westbound making drops along the way to Bryson. That train disconnects from the remaining freight and drops the passenger cars at the station at Bryson and then services while the switcher at Bryson builds the train for the eastbound mixed train back to the interchange… and the cycle repeats in reverse.

Honestly Hyce, I would advise getting the yard at Dillsboro built, since it comes in quite handy when you rank up the contracts and have a lot of freight cars from the interchange each day. It's a convenient place to organize the train by which destination is first, so you only have to lug the cars for that destination around when switching them instead of also lugging some extra cars based on where they showed up from the interchange. I also tend to leave cars from Dillsboro and Sylva there when they are due for the interchange, since it's also a convenient place for them to be picked up by the eastbound train. Ultimately it's up to you though.

When you unlock Bryson you also unlock a new project to rebuild the bridge near the Standard Oil siding which starts making it busier, culminating in a second interchange on the East side of the railway.

Smokey and the Bandit is such a good movie it's considered a Documentary of the Time. Even though when the movie was made CB radio's weren't really a thing the popularity made everyone put them in their rigs and work/joyride vehicles almost over night.

I've run with the logging Mikado for a few days now and its great for hauling a couple thousands tons of pulpwood back down to the paperboard but its got stubby little legs. I've gotta refuel it twice as often as the big Pacific

When i was playing Railroader on my laggy laptop I almost exclusively played like you've been doing, in third person like it's a model railroad. (As much as I wanted it to be like Derail Valley.) BUT. I will say first person as the conductor is actually pretty fun and worth a try. I do it while i'm blocking out the whittier yard (I dont have sylva yet)

I switch the paper mill and tannery complex first shove all the interchange and paperboard on 1 westbound train as sometimes I need my S23 switcher to help push the train to Witter. I then cut off the smaller of my 2 road locos to switch witter, Ella and do the logging jobs. Big road unit continues west to Bryson. Bryson switcher runs then I make my eastbound. I tend to skip a bunch of the mid day so puplwood are loaded then everything east. The coal mine is going to be interesting

The AI can auto-couple if set to yard mode and it's around 10 car lengths away. Just click 20 and the AI will couple and even slow to less than 3mph right before it couples. Useful when managing multiple locos.

I have also found the AI in this game will not tell you I'm stuck on the main because I ran out of coal and or water. As far as the leaving locomotives costing if you have it selected and want to jump to it's fallow cam or adjust it's orders you can Left click the engine number board on the lower left and it will open the engine window

19:10 - yeah, pulling through even proper hand brakes is easy. After all it's just half a car brake. You don't necessarily feel it and then the hot brake detector cries havoc. Or your conductor, because the bogie is absolutely SMOKING and then you look under the car and the brake discs are a beautiful shade of sky blue. Seriously, it's a beutiful colour, but not in this context xD 33:00 - hope you're already completely good again. Needn't be covid though; due to (still) needing to be careful about covid we didn't meet other common colds a lot, either. So when we do, they kick in a bit more than usually. Ask me how I know 😅🙄 36:20 - I was literally JUST NOW thinking about writing a comment along the lines of "huh, weird, 36 minutes in and still no Kenosha, that's a surprise" like ten seconds ago. After the 36 minutes mark. Actually most American cars actually apply both trucks - the handbrake just grabs the lever from the brake cylinder. But yeah, they easy to pull through. I am mostly back to normal, thanks for asking my friend :) Drop & Kick Murphy's. Sold, lol!

@@Hyce777 Oh interesting! Over here each bogie has its own brake cylinder, so the hand brake only acts on one bogie. I'd love to see the brake rigging of your cars, it must be an absolute mechanical maze to get the force from one brake cylinder onto two bogies, that's a ton of movement to be compensated for. Though now that we've talked about it, I think I'll need to take a closer look onto our own stuff on occasion. My memory of how that stuff is set up is really shrouded in darkness. It's not exactly knowledge that's relevant in operations, is it. I can still draw the inner workings of a brake valve from memory, because that's relevant to how they act and what problems can occur, but the mechanics between that and the friction element … nah that's not relevant to my work as a train driver at all. Glad to hear you're better!

Hyce: The models are flawed, theslund isnt great, the tutorial is confusing or lack luster, and the trains operate like Lionel Train Town. Us: But did you have fun with the operations side of this game? Hyce: Youre gosh darn right i did, it's so addictingly fun. I've absolutely been in love with this game. Yeah it has its frustrating moments but it does scratch an itch that so many other games don't get. I'd have to say the only thing I really find annoying is you don't hear AI whistles over a mile away. Would he awesome if you could hear distant trains 5+ miles whistling away

I'm glad you bought the steel coach, I wanted to see it, but it makes no financial sense. It's no better than the wooden cars in terms of cost per capacity, and it has about twice the weight per capacity and about the same length per capacity, so the open ended wooden cars are just the no brainer for passenger capacity.

If you 'Ctrl Click' the engine and have the 'Orders' tab selected, at the bottom of the window you will see it says 'Status:'. This is where the AI will tell you what it's doing including looking at 'End of Track'.

Omg, I remember playing Paperboy on the NES as a kid. It was infuriatingly hard, I used to rage hardcore. Those damn dogs! Kids these days think FPS Multiplayer shooters like COD are games that make you rage. Sell the 10 wheeler and buy a slightly bigger engine - maybe the bigger 10 wheeler or the 1st Pacific? Or the smallest 2-8-0, that thing is honestly a workhorse for quite a while.

The "bigger" 10 wheeler is pointless, IMO. Has 5 tons of coal and 4k gal of water. Better to spend the money on the c25 or the g25
