Here is my Black Ice Sleeping Bag Review. This is a proper winter sleeping bag. This down sleeping bag will comfortably sleep you below freezing. This goose down sleeping bag lofts up beautifully and captures and retains all your warmth. A 4 season sleeping bag is a must when winter camping. This should be paired with an insulated sleeping pad for best results.
This Black Ice G700 Sleeping Bag is sold by Camperlists. They specialise in Naturehike and 3F UL Gear. Their camping gear prices and customer service is excellent plus you don't have to worry about paying VAT and Duty on your backpacking gear. They sort this out.

Thanks to Andy's recommendation, I bought this a few weeks ago. I'm very happy with it. Yes, it's expensive, but it is quality and it works. Haven't been out in it yet, but I do sit inside it on my sofa because I still haven't put the heating on yet due to the concerning costs, and this bag keeps me warm!!

I’m actually looking for a wide, warm but packable sleeping bag so this review is great. Only thing, when I go to the site it says comfort rating is 3c for the 700 but the 1000 is comfort -7c.

Great vid Andy! I recently bought a Big Agnes Echo Park 0 degree bag, which is synthetic. I haven't tried it yet as im waiting for it to get bit colder for a proper test. I chose the BA because it's very spacious, being a quilt design zipped to a sleeping pad holder underneath, so between the pad and the quilt, you're completely covered. Im quite a big chap so the ample space is fantastic and i can roll round in it like a normal duvet. They do make a down version of it but it's an extra £200 on top, with the same insulation value, so i opted for the synthetic. It unzips from the pad holder so you can just use it as a quilt in the warmer months. Time will tell if i've made a wise purchase!

Nice! I think their ratings are confusing though, they don’t name their sleeping bags by their comfort ratings, instead it’s ‘transition’ (whatever that is!!!).

Thanks for the review, Andy. It's that time of year again, when a proper 4-season bag is a necessity. I've had my eye on the Rab Ascent 1100 and thought you thought you did a great review of that a year earlier ("The ULTIMATE Winter Sleeping Bag"), so I'm curious as to why you've since started using this alternative. One of the key deciding factors for me with Rab down products (and other major manufacturers) is their RDS accreditation. I won't buy any non-accredited down products due to the prevalence of animal cruelty in the supply chain - there's a reason many Chinese down products are so cheap. Sadly, this rarely gets highlighted, so many people are unaware of it. Anyway, just wondering if you've changed your mind about the Rab? If so, it would be really interesting to hear your thoughts on the pros and cons - maybe another video for you to consider?

This bag was just too hot for the type of winter camping I do. Comfort is probably minus 5 to 15! Too warm for me at zero degrees which is around my level of winter camping.

Great, thanks for the quick and helpful response, Andy! I can see that the extra insulation could be a problem for many people, as I think your level of winter camping is pretty common. Sticking with the Rab range (for its RDS accreditation), it sounds like the Ascent 900 might be better for the UK winter, at least outside Scotland... and it seems to be a popular bag. That said, I'm an extremely cold sleeper, so I'm still mulling the Ascent 1100 (do you want to flog me your old 1100, by any chance? 😆) Glad you've found the right bag for you anyway. Great channel - keep up the good work.

Hi Andy, the Camperlist website now conveys the comfort value as being 3 degrees and extreme -5 degrees. Will these function parameters change your previous review or opinion? Please advise via a written response. Thanks in advance

To be honest I don't know what they're playing at. I think the original ratings were correct. I personally was in this bag with sub-zero temperatures outside last week and I was warm and toasty. Maybe they've changed the filling?

Thanks for reply Andy, it’s appreciated. I was so close to ordering this bag but held off after being disappointed the performance ratings were revised/amended on the BlackIce website and deviating from those ratings given to your bag shown in your video. Can you advise if going for the BlackIce 1000 version or one of the Naturehike alternatives or any alternatives for that matter is the way to go to get a bag with a Comfort rating of -5 degrees? Thank you for all your inputs and reviews, you are the Scotty Kilmer of outdoor pursuit gear and becoming a legend. Take care. Adrian - Dublin

Hi Andy, thank you for your what appears to be sincere, objective and knowledgeable reviews. I am going to buy a 4 season bag. I never considered the Chinese brands because I was not aware of them and perhaps would be cautious regarding their quality. However, I am really interested in these products especially after your reviews. Can you answer the viewers question: which is better the Nature hike Snowbird -7 or this Black Ice G700? Do you really believe that despite the Black Ice being fairly unknown, is it worth taking a punt on? By the way I am based in Ireland and as you know our home climates and geography are similar . If you are ever passing through Dublin, look me up. Thanks for you advice!

The 1100 and 1300 are for deep inter camping. Are you likely to be camping in -10 degrees? If closer to zero the 700 will be fine.

Thanks Andy. Checked the Camperlist site and ratings for the upgraded G700 are comfort 3c, limit -5c, extreme limit -10c. The G1000 ratings are comfort -7c, limit -14c, extreme limit -19c. Recommends the G1000/G1300 for cold weather camping. Price for the G700 is $204, G1000 and G1300 is $265, which still seems really good. I guess having used this company several times that you find them easy to deal with? I'm definitely interested in purchasing the G1000 or G1300.

Looks decent, I think the G700 is almost identical to the Leviathan EV 900 looking at the specs, the Leviathan is currently £135 on Tiso and if you show the Tiso price at Go Outdoors they will match it plus 10% off the price. I think for that sort of money it's not possible to beat unless your getting second hand.
@BackpackingUK

I’ve seen some really mixed reviews about the Leviathan with some people complaining they were cold at +5 degrees. Def do your research 👍 Their EV400 is about 5 degrees out.

Come on! Don't be fooled by the media's fake news please? Most of our products are made in China.
