Yh. And being a Dutch born (West African by ethnicity) Londoner who's lived in West Yorkshire for five years of his life I do wonder what my true accent is. But I find a whole lot of British accents very interesting, and I wish I can switch smoothly, but that's life. Not trying to sound dumb or anything but that's me.

It's so refreshing to hear eve talk about not being in a relationship; with the media shoving the idea down our throats that basically everyone is in relationship and had to be in order to be happy it's sometimes difficult to feel validated when you're single, but this just really reminds me that even the best of people don't always have someone and it's perfectly okay :)

Also from midlands and my accent changes ALL the time honestly your response was so relatable. And with regards to the guy that hurt you, try not to feel like a mug - everyone is young and naive to start with, positive side is you’ve grown from it and know how to spot the red flag in future ✨

Such a mood with the sister relationship! Me and my older sister were known in our neighbourhood as not getting along but once she moved out and our lives weren't intertwined anymore it just became so much easier! Now I've also moved out and moved far, we have to make an effort to keep in touch with each other and it's just nicer. I think when you move away from your hometown and meet so many different people, it makes it special to talk to someone who's known you as long and as intimately as your sister does.

I understand the accent thing. I was born in Ireland and moved to Birmingham when I was 12 so picked up the Brummy accent a bit so my accent can switch without me noticing. When I go back to Ireland my family there say I have lost my Irish accent but when I'm back in Brum people say I sound Irish. By the way don't change for anyone, you are a beautiful person and still young, you will find someone when not looking :) take care.

The accent thing is so relatable! I’m from the North East, but I moved to Edinburgh for postgrad and all of my flatmates were international. They had never heard an accent like mine before and I found myself having to tone it down so they could understand me. I definitely got a bit self-conscious about it, but then my home friends came to visit and they realised my accent isn’t even that strong in comparison. The struggle was real. 😂🙈

You still sound birmingham-ish to me, and i’m scottish, i think accents can go both ways people criticise if your accent isn’t strong enough and you don’t “sound like how you should” and obviously there’s prejudice against strong regional accents/dialects. I think people should be more open-minded when it comes to accents like why do you get to decide how everyone’s voice should sound ??!

I’m the exact same with my brother. He’s five years younger so he never got my jokes or understood that I was incredibly stressed about GCSEs, A Levels, and Uni. Now I’m final year and he’s doing GCSEs and we can joke around a bit and he understands the stress because he’s older. We used to just argue all the time and now we snap at each other because we’re used to it but we also joke alongside it. When he’s in his 20s and has a job etc. Im sure we’ll be great friends :))

Also, same with the accent! I lost my brighton accent at university because it’s similar to a south London accent and is considered working class and unintelligent. Can’t even do it on command anymore so I just have a very RP accent the whole time

I’m from Yorkshire and have a very strong regional accent, and went to Uni in the North East so was still surrounded by strong northern accents. But I spent a long weekend with my best friend from home at her Uni in Windsor and spent the whole weekend having to constantly repeat myself because no one understood me or how I could be from the same place as my friend 😂😂😂 (she’d obviously codeswitched to a more ‘neutral’ accent but if anything I’d made my accent stronger in a defensive way?!)

Don't get me wrong I still have a black country accent regardless but the difference in me talking to my Mum, as we're from a very common part of wolverhampton, and me talking to my friends from Perton and South Staffs is definitely different.
