@@randalthor6872 i think at this point in the build they have there is not much for quests etc. its kinda just in the testing / sandbox type phase. so you can play, but you have a set loadout unless you change some of the back end stuff, and you can go around and fight etc. its basic but very very cool since they are kinda creating this from more or less scratch again.

@@Edwin-iw8gb replaced with Shield Sage, which is more of a dedicated tanking and support class that trades the sword for a wand. There's other magic-wielding classes with offensive potential though like Alchemist, Spirit Lancer, and High Scepter.

Everything that has been done is publicly available, meaning you have access to the files to host the game for yourself and/or friends. The Public Server currently up isn't even really suited for more than like maybe 5 people anyway lol.

@@HowlingDoom Server emulation will require significant hardware for a lot of players at once. BDO requires 256GB RAM just to host, not even play, and that's actual retail files and not reverse-engineered user code. Also, I don't think DD2 even allowed that many players in an instance at once (draw distance and all). There was a cap per party/dungeon I think.

Slim to none, There are roughly four types of modding, and when you know them you'll recognise them easily enough. The most basic type is substitution. This is done by simply taking one file and renaming it to a game file so that it is used instead of the usual file - mostly this is used to change the way items look. Just take the picture and swap it for yours, and voila; it now looks different. After that, we've got variable editing. That's when you take (number)variables in a game (such as how much damage a weapon deals or how much health the player has) and changing it. Since many games define pretty much anything with a number (fireball is skill number x, ice spike is x+1, zap x+2, etcetera) you can do more with this than you might think. Third is the one that makes modders super-happy - when the dev gives them a coding kit. Skyrim has this, and it allows the player to do almost anything the dev can do. (Exceptions are core mechanics) Lastly... Modder heaven. Released source code. That's basically the same as giving your game away for free. Modders can do literally anything, because they have access to everything the dev has. Dragon's Dogma is somewhere between type 1 and 2. We can swap images and we can read and change a few files, but that's it. To make multiplayer you would need type 3 and some tools for the user (users would need to download server software, because the game doesn't provide them by itself). Look up multiplayer Skyrim; even though it's type 3 it didn't get a proper multiplayer mod until very recently. There were one or two mods but they require extra stuff to make it work. Or you'd need type 4 (where modders can do literally anything, so yeah. That includes multiplayer). (this is a copypasta)
