Well, it is about time! Before this day I had not caught a fish for about 6 weeks. I missed out on the last two weeks of October because of an ankle injury. Pretty the whole month of November the weather was just cold enough to make some ice but not cold enough to make safe ice. I heard it was good to go the previous weekend but I was playing darts in my league tournament. So needless to say this felt great to FINALLY get out and catch a few fish.
It just makes it that much better that it was sight fishing on a beautiful December day for brook trout. Some quality fish were caught and I also got some really awesome strikes and releases on video. Hope you enjoy!
Cheers and tight lines!

Thanks Joe! I ended up with about 20 micro splake today. Haha, biggest was only 13 inches. Still though was so fun to get some. Once board of splake. I headed over to a pike/walleye lake. And funny enough. Caught 3 smallmouth and lost even more! It was nuts! Will make for a cool video I think. And as for the video. Wow. Unreal shots Joe. Those were some awesome Brookies and I gotta say the suckers are pretty cool too! Really enjoyed this one. The net is a genius idea while sight fishing. Can't wait for next weeks splake video!

Very fun video, thanks for sharing! If you want to catch big lake trout through the ice, lay one of use those giant suckers (salted) on the bottom under an ifish or tip up. Have fun this winter!
@differentfins
@differentfins 8 ай бұрын
Hey Eric! Those suckers would be good bait size. My dead bait of choice though is cisco/tullibee. I will chop it up for chum then use some of the belly meat to tip a jigging spoon. How was your summer? Too busy to make videos... or are they coming?
@therealfarwater
@therealfarwater 8 ай бұрын
@@differentfins ciscos are always my first choice, but we can’t get them here in MN, there’s been a shortage for the last 5 years and I can’t find them anywhere. The preservatives in the frozen smelt from Lake Superior seem to scare off lake trout-I rarely catch anything on them-so I generally go with 8-12” pike suckers for dead baits. For some silly reason, chumming isn’t legal in Mn, otherwise I’d be doing the same. I took a step away from KZbin for a little while. I got burnt out this spring posting so much content then I hurt my back in July and needed surgery to repair a ruptured disc that was causing nerve pain. I’m still not 100%-I missed all of August and September and October focusing on recovery. I got out for deer hunting this fall but didn’t shoot anything. Today I woke up to rain, so I don’t know when I’ll be able to get out and do some fishing. I’ve got a ton of spring/summer content filmed, just need to focus on editing. You’ll likely see some content from me after the first of the year, then a hunch more leading into spring/summer again. I’m very excited to get back at it.
@differentfins
@differentfins 8 ай бұрын
Ouch, well hoping for a full recovery on the back. Looking forward to your new content. It was raining here this morning also. most of our lakes now have 6-8" of clear ice so the rain wouldn't affect it too much. Most days are below freezing until end of month but no snow in the forecast at all! This will be my first ever green Christmas! Wild! @@therealfarwater

@@differentfins thank you! I’m still not 100% but I’m feeling better most days. I moved north to have colder snowier winters, it’s bizarre to have 40 and rain in Ely in mid-December-I don’t like this one bit

I have had a couple actually take the lure quite aggressively! Suckers are underrated fish! Sometimes they give you a heart attack though because, for a second, you think it's a giant brook trout coming in lol.

@NorthCanadaFishing saw some big wolf tracks today walking the dog close to home. Honestly wolves are the lesser or two evils compared to coyotes. Coyotes aren't as big or bad as wolves but they are more brazen and more likely to attack pets or people. Wolves are smarter.
