Thanks, Jerry. That threw some light on my not entirely tight fan belt. Before watching, I ignored the adjusting screw as a possibility on the grounds that no manufacturer could possibly put it somewhere so hard to get to.

It’s a mystery. It’s almost like they didn’t thing the belt would need maintenance. Thanks for watching!

Enjoying these immensely. I've a 75 plate 1500 and recently only added the 2nd horn. So much better having the high and low together. Also found the horns are polarity conscious and only work one way, regards Joe.

Hi Joe! Really glad top hear you are enjoying the content I'm creating. Do you know, I never thought to check the horn with the cable polarity reversed (Doh!); I began to think I might have unecessarily replaced it when your comment came through. Re-tested the duff high-note horn today and confirmed it doesn't work either way around and there are no + or - markings on the case; will check the new one though! Thanks for watching and leaving me a comment.

@@JerryMotorsport The circuit diagrams don't suggest there is any polarity issue other than the horns are live fed and the switch is on the ground return. For whatever reason my pair would only work in one configuration. 🙄

Hey Jerry, great video. I'm looking at possibly buying a 1969 Midget and looks like your channel will be a good source of information if I do buy it. Looking forward to more of your videos. Even though everything you do is on the wrong side of the road.

Thanks for the feedback and welcome to the channel. I hope my videos do indeed help with any works. Did laugh at your wrong side of the road comment.

Glad you enjoyed it. I was so gutted to have the fan belt slipping again after all that work.

@@JerryMotorsport That's terrible. So... Jerry, you are saying that it began to slip again, even after the new belts and tension bolt.

Fan belt good, alternator loose. Its not a great system. Anyone know of a tensioner pulley setup for these cars?
@JerryMotorsport2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, thanks for watching and an excellent question. I wondered many times when doing this fanbelt work if there was a tensioner system available; I'm not aware of one. Perhaps I should look at fashioning one; although I'd have to be careful not to put excessive load on the pullies and create other problems. In fairness, it has been much better since sorting it out and just one of those things that us classic car owners need to keep a check on. All the best..

Was that engine oil you put in the carb dash pot dampers? I believe you should use light oil eg 3in1 for proper performance. It would explain why the pistons are so difficult to replace.
@JerryMotorsport3 жыл бұрын
The service manual says to use engine oil but you are right, they perform well if using 3 in 1 instead.
@dhdove3 жыл бұрын
@@JerryMotorsport So much internet chatter on this subject, to no real conclusion. I always used 3in1 and worked fine but seems to be partly dependent on wear in the carbs....you pays yer money....
@JerryMotorsport3 жыл бұрын
@@dhdove I always used to put 3 in 1 in after having had some issues with revs not building in competition and someone suggested it to solve my problems. This time I did actually fill up with engine oil; not had any issues on the test drives at all. I did balance the carbs recently and it has appreciated that; perhaps that was the issue all along.

I have also always used 20/50 engine oil but essentially I think use whatever suits your purpose. Heavier oil gives a slower piston rise and so an extended period of richer mixture under throttle. Under real world conditions though not sure how much difference it makes!
